  1. I'm currently working with the camera utility from Mud, and he remembers it to be a mix of boom and wires, most actors wires at all times. Very little ADR as far as he knows. Marc
  2. 2 lavs or Peter Engh omnigoose mics in the visor should be good for dialog. I drop the bag in the back if the car and listen in the follow car. For follow car stuff I've done I use a smv at 250 mw on the roof to a 411 velcroed to the windshield and plugged into the aux jack.
  3. I'm thinking I'll just loop an output of the boom alone back to an input and run very conservative peels on the initial channel and gain up the 2nd. Thanks.
  4. My mix is track 1. Can I put my boom (tr 7, input 6) onto 2 prefade tracks with a 10 db gain difference? I see that I can route the boom to tracks 7 & 8 but their input prefade levels are the same, even when I use the vFader to adjust input gain on the second track.
  5. If you want more choices, pay more for the Nomad.
  6. Excellent, thanks for listening to us Glenn.
  7. Right, I figured that out after I had settled on that signal path. For one additional input I can live with using the Menu button as a virtual fader, but more than 1 becomes awkward in my experience.
  8. I saw that video Jim, but it was after I posted. It seems more purpose driven to interface with SD gear than the Nomad or Maxx, but I suppose it would do the job. While I was working with the RX Emergency today, I noticed that I wasn't recording prefade ISO of that channel, the iso only recorded when I brought that channel into the mix. Since I didn't consider it before I noticed it and was rolling most of the afternoon once I had, I didn't have a chance to change settings to see if I could record a prefade ISO on the channel I used the RX Emergency on. My signal path was Lectro 411a Line level->RX Emergency->Ret1 (Channel 7) Nomad, with the vFader setting to Channel 7 only, trim + vFade. While I'm thinking about it, I don't see how I could record prefade isos with that setup unless I am missing something, but it's been a long day, so perhaps I am missing something. The RX Emergency 2 seems like it would duplicate the same results- introducing 2 hardware rotary pots without prefade ISOs. Hmm, back to wishing I had a Zaxcom fader panel for the Nomad. Marc
  9. I'd be interested in a fader panel, but now that the RX Emergency 2 has been announced, that might be the more cost effective way to go. I have been traveling with 5 wireless and a boom, but on occasion I use more wireless. If I have one wireless on the virtual fader, it's ok, not great, but workable. More than 1 channel on the virtual fader gets a bit clunky for me- I like to have more immediate access. I have been using the RX Emergency as an additional fader pot and it has been working well when I need it. I suppose it would boil down to functionality and price point for me if Zaxcom produced an additional fader panel. Marc
  10. Not exactly certain as it not in front of me t the moment, but there is a difference. One erx steps all the way down to .005v I believe and the older one only goes to .031v. Thanks Jack. Marc
  11. My mistake, yes, the TRX series. I am trying to send TC as an audio channel to 2 5Ds in addition to my mix . I just bought a new ERX and the TC output is adjustable to a much lower level than the one with the older firmware. I haven't been able to attenuate each channel on the 5D independently, so either TC is too hot or my mix track is too low. Marc
  12. I need to update the firmware on an ERX2TC but I need the IFB 100 or QRX to do it. I am shooting in VA for the next few weeks and don't want to lose an ERX to make the return trip to NJ. Thanks. Marc
  13. I recently did a very unscientific run time test with my SMv and SMQv with Powerex 2700mAh rechargeable AA batteries. Both transmitters were on 100mw. On the SMv, it took 2:55 for the battery light to turn red, 3:35 until the red light flashed, and 3:40 until it died completely. On the SMQv, it took 6:20 for the power light to turn red, 7:50 until it started flashing, and 7:55 until it died. Batteries just came off the Powerex c081d charger in soft charging mode, which charges at a rate of 1000ma. All batteries are in good, but used condition. Marc
  14. Wow, beautiful work. Marc
  15. Well he wouldn't have to show up on location, but you're right, it would have been nice if they offered to email him a coupon for a free Subway Tuna. Marc
  16. http://natethayer.wordpress.com/2013/03/04/a-day-in-the-life-of-a-freelance-journalist-2013/ Here's an interesting email exchange between a journalist and the Global Editor of the Atlantic Magazine. Sounds eerily familiar. Marc
  17. Menu->vFader Cycle, set that to 7,8, then set vFader Mode to either vFaders or vFaders + Trim. It's an option for controlling those inputs, but it's still a little clunky in my opinion.
  18. I use a plastic hotel door card. They are wider than 2inch gaff, so there is enough room on one end to punch a hole in case I want to hang it outside my ENG bag. That was you can also use the last inch of tape and then reload it. For those of us in the colder climates, I also keep an old hotel key in the car because they are way better than any ice scraper for the icy frost coating on your windows when you are driving before the sun comes up, and less important than your credit card. I've already used this one a few times this year. I just started doing this with 1" white gaff in strips of 1", and 2 thinner strips. It works perfectly and I always have gaff tape when I need it. THanks for the suggestion. Marc
  19. I have 2 Switronix NP L60 batteries and have been happy with them for the last year and a half. I don't have the Hawkwoods NP adapter so I can't comment of their compatibility. I also bought two wall chargers for about $44 each, which is a considerable savings over many of the NP1 chargers out there. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/729800-REG/Switronix_PB70C_PB70C_PowerBase_Charger.html Marc
