  1. Hi Ira, yes, I have been working with Evan as well. The CS 104 had the 4 channel mod, and now has VU meters and the M/S output circuit mod (I use M/S a lot). I also had a custom cable made by Evan to feed the rca line level outputs of my SD usbpre2 into the aux mixer input of the CS 104, adding an additional 2 channels of mixing when needed. (PM me if you need more info on that, as there there are some caveats and additional equipment you need to make this work. I also output the xlr line levels of the SD to a ZFR 100 + STA 150 for two additional channels of TC recording).
  2. Gentlemen, I think you have it. This was a big help. Thanks!
  3. On the left our mystery guest. On the right an AT899 unscrewed to underscore the difference. But you guys may be pointing to the fact that the design of the AT899 changed over time? Thanks RL
  4. Hi All, I just bought a ZFR 100 with this lavalier, which was billed as an AT899. It is not (I have several AT899's). Can anyone identify what mic it is? Thanks Richard
  5. Just a service note for those still working with an R4 pro. KingSpec PATA IDE 44 Pin 2.5" SSD drives are fully compatible both physically and electronically. They offer various capacities. I installed the 128 GB and R4 pro booted without difficulty. Those contemplating working with the r4 PRO and the Remote Audio's BDS need to be aware that the r4 PRO does not have positive/negative ground protection on the 4 pin external power socket. This means that if you attach the wrong device, i.e. a radio mic with the wrong ground polarity, you will fry the power input on the r4 pro. Roland does not do ANY component level repairs for this unit. So this mistake will cost $250 for a new main board.
  6. Hi, there is a quite a bit of info here: http://www.ambient.de/fileadmin/user_upload/produkthandbuecher/Ambient/Tonangeln/QFL_Floater_lo.pdf
  7. Yes, all good tips. I have the 416 and AT 4051 and 4053, and MKH30 was not cheap. Down the road I can think about the a MKHX0 or MKH80X. Working primarily in guerilla documentary, we are forced to do the best on a virtually non-existent budget. So before I commit some error, I am testing the waters with what we have. In a related matter, two accessories that I have been advised about are the Ambient QFL floater and the Twister QUM. Is there consensus that they are essential, is there more that is objectively needed, i.e. Rycote Connbox?, etc? Suggestions re Cinela are not really possible right now. Thanks RL
  8. Hi All, Any experiences with the Ambient QFL in terms of membranes? I have a line on a used one, but no third membrane (or other accessories) is included with it. Using this with a stacked m/s mkh 30 / 416 setup in rycote AE with a Connbox CB3. Thanks Richard
  9. And that is why I was also interested in the 405x series with its three different capsules. I have the 4051 and the 4053. Some write about using an omni for the M, which would be the 4049. Thus between the 416 and these three capsules, there is, in theory, a lot bases covered. But experience can often prove otherwise ...
  10. Hi, Have an MKH 30 here and wanting to pair with my 416 or AT 4053b for M/S. Any caveats or relevant experiences? I understand the ease of pairing with other MKH mics, but thats not financially in the cards right now. Thanks Richard
  11. Thanks Pindrop, also for the tip about S1. If you can do all you need in post, what if anything would be the advantages of having M/S decoding in your field mixer?
  12. Hi all, Setting up a M/S system for a film production with a MKH 418 S to a Cooper CS102 and Edirol R4 Pro. Does one need M/S decoding in the Cooper, or is it enough to use the M/S decoding in the R4 Pro for monitoring purposes on location? Thanks Richard
  13. I picked up the CS 104 on ebay and it is on its way to Vark. Andy Cooper himself has chimed in about getting the peak mod, and the the prefader mod is also planned. The Twelco 4x4 can be had refurbished for a very competitive price, but the reputation of the Cooper appears unmatched in many ways. I will give it a try, and if not, the Twelco remains an attractive option.
  14. Hi, indeed the Vark mod would be perfect. The CS104 in the ebay link does not have the mod unfortunately ...
  15. Thanks for the feedack. SQN or Cooper CS104 are great, but to my knowledge they are only 4x2 mixers. Or are there models that are 4x4? The Foxtex FM-4 is amazing, but I am putting together kit for a full length micro-budget doc. project. Every €/$/£ 200 saved means another TRM50 or other useful addition.
  16. Hi Malcolm, John has already gotten back to me that that unit had been sold. Thanks for the Tip! RL
  17. Hi all, Looking for a 4 in - 4 out field mixer. Found little information about the Twelco TW LP44, other than the spec sheet. Some forum members have this in their bag. Reports from actual users would be appreciated on pros and cons. Suggestions on alternatives also appreciated, other than regarding the usual SD suspects, as budgetary considerations make them not possible right now. Thanks Richard
  18. I am only a documentary user, so I can only comment on a few related points. It would be amazing to have an intermediate price for 4 and 8 channels, even if the price was "higher" in relation to an unlimited version. It would also be great if BR could output even a rudimentary time code to Movielsate app for Ipad-Iphone. It would also be great if the program allowed for saving of files to two locations at the same time, or automatically backup takes. The section on compatible hardware could be crowdsourced more intensively. Otherwise thanks for a great program.
  19. Hi Todd, I have started to work with it, and klunky is a good word. What I was looking for was something that could work with BR to handle 6-8 channels, something that works stand alone, and something that works with PT. I have found no other solution. If something comes to mind, please let me know. The DIgi 003 driver will drive the Digi 002 (no Avid support, so you are on your own if you have a problem) in Yosemite. Testing is not complete, but dynamic effects appear to capable of being pre- or post. Preamps are not glorious, I will give you that. Hi Jay, I am working on a doc with a skeleton crew. I am shooting all location sound in 24/96 to be able to extract the most out of it in post.
  20. Hi all, I just got a Digi 002 to work with BR and wanted to confirm that it works at 24/48 in stand alone mode? I assume that using BR will not allow me to configure the Digi 002 for 24/96? The Digi 002 is sending prefader in stand alone mode (question being if the limiter can be applied before the signal reaches the BR)? Thanks Richard
