  1. I've just finished working with the camera crew that work on Downton Abbey. They start on series 4 next week. My understanding is that everyone is on a radio mic. No mean task in the big scenes with our very small bandwidth in the UK. 2 cameras all the time.
  2. Another day. Another 6 1/2 pages before lunch
  3. I have owned an octopac. I swapped it for a VR field. I couldn't get reliable range from the octopac. I do get reliable range from the VR Field. I also find the menus much easier to navigate on the VR field.
  4. I have the VR field and the venue system. The VR field sits in my bag kit for low loader and 2nd unit work. The venue sits in my 19inch rack on my trolley. Both systems have been excellent. The field is quite bulky. I wouldn't want to have it round my neck for too long. Both systems require you to take the top off to access the jumpers to provide power to the aerials. I believe an updated system will have an external switch. Check before you buy If you don't have a 19inch system on your trolley then buy the field as it will be easy to move it from trolley to bag.
  5. In the UK and Ireland there are only 2 legal channels at the moment. Ch69 854-862 MHz is legal until the end of 2012. Ch38 606-614 is legal and is the replacement for ch69. You are correct that 50mw is the maximum power allowed. It would be unlikely that you would have your 100mw equipment confiscated when entering the UK. If you want to stay legal I would recommend hiring radio mics locally. Not sure about Barcelona but I do know that ch69 does not work there.
  6. I have used this app in the UK with Lectrosonic radio mics. We use ch38 here which is listed as block 606. If I put the first 6 group A lectro frequencies into a plan it comes up with multiple hits. Why would that be as the group frequencies are designed to work together.
  7. Thanks. Is there any disadvantages to using them active on short cable runs of 2 meters.
  8. I have just invested in a venue kit with ALP650 antennas. Most of the time they will be fixed to my sound cart. Do the antennas work in passive mode if I turn the power off in the venue or do they need to be powered all the time? The cable runs will be only 2 meters so most of the time using the amplifiers will be overkill.
  9. Try Ian Coles at Visual Impact 020 8614 8532. He can provide a full drama kit with trolley. They are based in Teddington south London
  10. There is a trade in scheme for Cos11 mics in the UK. Give Visual Impact a ring. They may be able to point you in the right direction. Last time I checked it was about £130 for a new mic with pigtails. Your old mic must have the serial number on it David lascelles

  12. I have done this to my Mix 12 after talking to John Rodda. I used the Ikea strip as discussed. It's easy to do and works a treat. Regards David Lascelles
