  1. Well done Noah! It's nice to see such a great piece like that on the net...rare. I would imagine that the majority of the people who come across it will have no direct involvement in film sound. What a great glimpse into our world they will get. Well beyond your standard: "this is a microphone..." BTW it reminds me of my great experience working with you, quite a while ago when I was coming up. Also, I see a great picture of you and A.G., it begs the question are you two still working together? EBaume
  2. Has anyone tried the Tascam Dr-100? Mostly want one of these devices for in the bag, sending line level.
  3. I usually backpack em on the docs or commercial gigs I commute via bicycle to. To protect them, I've made "Helmets" for em out of Plexi tubing that I got in China Town (SF) but I think they got it in here in NYC too. There's a perfect size, if you go to a Plex shop in your local china town I think it's like 5"?? I took mine in back in the day and they hooked me up. I Saws-alled a slot starting from one end so I can slide em in (you know the pistol grip part). On one end I put a cap and on the other end I leave a little overhang. I keep the polar-tech wind sock on em which takes a little wear but protects the zep. Ebaume
  4. When I direct I usually bring along sennheiser HD 218s. I found that personally this is where I want to be as far as hearing/weight ratio. When I roll sound I offer everyone Sony MDR - G42's or 218s to the key people (bigger stuff is on hand if they really want em). After a day, it seems most folks elect to go back down to the lighter behind the head option as they're usually a good match for G2s or Commies and don't harsh your hair style as much. Foam earpieces usually go pretty quickly so I have my aunt from Sanoma, CA, who's a world class weaver and textile artist, croche me some replacement Alpaca earpieces which people really dig. Ebaume
  5. Vin, thanks for your reply. The wordage on the product lit led me to believe that the 1/8" connector was to override the two XLRs....pointless as it seemed. Tough decision which one to go with.
  6. Of course I have yet to even see a Zoom H4n, and it's probably not possible given all the surface mounted stuff they're going with these days but it would be sweet if somehow one could be modified so that you could bypass it's built in mics and in it's place send two other signals....say direct outs from a 442.
  7. I'm still waiting for an All in one recorder/control based on the Keytar -- Come on Roland we're half way there. replace the keys with knobs and faders. Maybe they could leave a couple keys on so I can rock out between takes.
  8. Yeah this sounds like it could be the problem, ruled out mic problems by testing it with a couple of others and also pulling out and getting my PSC backup mixer into this. It's the older Mkii model which has fixed stages of LF R-O. It's pretty effectively able to take care of this. I'll give em a call I'm sure they'd take care of it. EBaume
  9. For some reason (at least how I have it set) the 442 seems to be a lot more prone to handling noise especially with my Kmr81i that I've been favoring on a lot of the doc shoots lately. The roll off is not making as much difference no matter where on the dial it is from (80 to 240)... I tried all the combos on the mic and with gain lower higher etc. etc. I'm an okay boom handler but would like a little more love from the mixer. Are there any menu settings that I'm missing? Doesn't look like it. http://www.sounddevices.com/download/guides/442-setups.pdf Any advice? Thanks a lot, EBaume
  10. Looks like a great piece of kit but 6K's a little too rich for my blood at the moment. Especially since they have me working out of the bag a lot these days. While I'm sure well worth every penny, when I heard rumors of it's development I was hoping it would be about half that. Guess someone has to pay for all the R&D. EBaume
  11. Wow looks great! I was just in your neck of the woods doing a doc in Rajasthan. I then locked my gear up and traveled all over the subcontinent for four months. For me, it just wasn't enough time. I only barely scratched the surface. I was in Mumbai for a couple days visiting some sets that a producer friend was working on. I wish I would have known about this site earlier...I would have dropped by and taken you up on your gracious offer in a NY minute. Next time. I did get to go up to Srinagar and the surrounding areas, and in my limited experience, I say you're right, the food of Kashmir probably some of the hottest in all of India!!! Good though, very I'd say Mongolian influenced?? I especially liked the lotus root that they do up there. The seafood and thalis down south were outstanding on both coasts Goa/Karala and Chennai as well as out in the Andaman Islands. One of the best places we found for food was Kolkata. Very pleasantly surprised. Movies were great, they have nice long intermissions at all the ones I caught out there. Depending on where you are in the country, they offered things like samosas at the concession. When I went to a theater here after returning, I was missing the lack of variety of food at most theaters here. Also I miss the Chai Masala that you'd get everywhere especially in north India. The best when you're on a long train ride. For some reason I noticed that in the south, they seem to favor bad instant coffee. It was kind of tough finding good "real" coffee in some places unless you go to the big cities where they have chains which are their answer Starbucks like Coffee Day. Hopefully I get back there soon -- EBaume
