  1. How bleep from Nomad please? Hit the TC button. On the first screen the one that displays it upside down, push the menu button in.
  2. ERX2TCD's are one of the best investments I have made in a long time. I now use them on 5D shoots all the time. Yes you can either send two mono mixes or one mono mix and TC. But with the Nomad you can also send a bleep that goes both to the camera and recorder. Two words. BAD ASS.
  3. Well up here in Canada Trew does there servicing. They have done the screen mod and replaced a DSP board for me.
  4. Hey George and Steven! The 80's called they want your style of filmmaking back. Red tails was horrible. Lucas has always been a terrible filmmaker. Studios probably didn't want to make Lincoln because they probably were falling asleep by page 5 of the script. Studios will make movies just not there's. Time to retire boys.
  5. Did you guys know the Nomad is also a recorder!? I just read that in the manual.
  6. If the horses are set trained they should be fine. Since I've worked on a million westerns, from my experience if you approach the horses with the boom pole before shooting and have them smell it, it can help. Talk to the wranglers about it first. Properly trained horses really shouldn't be bothered by the boom.
  7. I'm not disagreeing with you guys about the actual range testing. Fine, my statement was harsh about Zaxcom. And I apologize. But it's not like this hasn't been said before. It's what I heard, read and now saw. Again, I am sorry. And I really hope this does not affect my reputation.
  8. To justanross: For you to come to this erroneous conclusion based on your observation of two crews working with wireless setups, Lectro and Zaxcom, would be laughable at best and a serious lapse in judgement and understanding at the worst. When you say "I understand there are a lot of factors to consider" were you in a position to be able to consider any of these other factors? Did you ask the person using the PSC multi-coupler if he has had any problems with that (as you probably know there was a period of about 3 months where Ron Meyer was trying to solve some rather serious problems with that unit)? Were you aware of all the devices the Zaxcom user had in their bag --- whether there were any possible interactions between a camera hop, for example, or an IFB in the bag? Your conclusion, which you say is shared by "many", that "Zaxcom wireless range sucks" is just patently and demonstrably untrue. I will add that I agree that the wonderful recording feature of the Zaxcom wireless is NOT a substitute for its RF performance, and that was never the intention. The recording feature will, however, save you like no other in those situations where there are serious and unsolvable RF problems because of the nature of the shoot. Lastly, I will say that from a great deal of personal experience, I have not had any range problems in my work, and the people that I know who routinely use Zaxcom wireless in the bag have nothing but praise for the units. Yes. I realize all this. When we got a chance we played around a bit. We tried not using the PSC RF multi and whips. And yes he was using Zaxcom wireless to the camera so his transmitter could be a factor. But it was two blocks of separation from his other wireless. There are other sound guys on this shoot who have similar stories about Zaxcom wireless range. They all mainly do bag work. You work on a cart with powered antennas. As I have read on here and heard from others this is the best way to run Zaxcom wireless. I'm sorry but I'm just not sold on there wireless.
  9. TX recording is a very nice feature, but my main concern with wireless is a good range (with a good sound obviously)...On many shows, producers will be happy to have the recording security but they will really prefer to have no drops, and to have the sound recorded on their usual recorder. The better will be to have both ! I recently saw Zaxcom wireless in action. I'd never seen or used Zaxcom wireless because no one where I live uses it. I'm working on a Doc series with two other crews. The guy using Zaxcom was running, QRX100 into a PSC RF multi and Lectrosonic dipoles. I had 411a's with whips. We were working in the same area, I think the we were both running block 21. In some situations I was getting twice the range. Now I understand there are a lot of factors to consider. But this did confirm what I always wondered and what many have said. Zaxcom wireless range sucks.
  10. John makes a lot of very good points. It's really not about the gear. Like every career you have start at the bottom and work your way up
  11. Agreed! Even if you didn't want to use them to control virtual faders, it would be awesome to set them up as Zaxnet gain controls for Tx's. Via USB would be a simple connection. Glenn! Are you listening? This would be a great feature. As a Nomad owner I would consider this if it was a feature of the MAXX.
  12. When a mixer calls me saying they're thinking about moving here I always say they're welcome to, but that they should bring their boomer and utility! There is a SERIOUS lack of boomer and utilities here... I would like to say that French Canadians smell funny, but I won't. heh Dan Izen Dan I will stay after this show and be your Boom guy Although, I'm only an okay boom guy.
  13. Hahaha. Maple Syrup is mainly an eastern canadian thing. Those French Canadians love it! Not that I don't
  14. Ohhh...I was waiting for someone to say that. Canadian production company no americans allowed :p
  15. I just want you all to know, I hate all french canadians
  16. Thanks! This is all great info. This is the fourth season of the show. I worked on it last season. We've all had the proper training. And production is very good at making sure we have all the proper safety gear. Maybe they just haven't told me where we are shooting. Not sure if the other sound guys on the team on here know. I guess I'll fire off an email
  17. I think you are correct Thanks for the advice. I have blocks 21 and 24. Production has not told us where we are yet. But it's an Oil Rig show. So I imagine in the middle of nowhere. I am very excited to go. I have never heard a bad thing about the area.
  18. I am also heading there soon. Any tips you can give us. What to expect with the environment, things to avoid in general. And I will be going to Pro Sound for sure
  19. My stuff is working fantastic now. The Nomad issues I had were covered under warranty. No issues with my ERX's they having been working as promised. And I have four of them. I'm actually a really huge fan of them. My Fusion I've always loved. In the four years I've had it, I only sent it in twice. It's still kicking butt. The SD stuff I owned I never once sent it in. I also rarely called them. Lectro stuff I have sent in but it was for firmware upgrades and I had block changes done on a couple wireless. I've been pretty happy with my gear over the years. Despite how I sound on here sometimes
  20. I've own my Nomad for about six months and I've sent it in twice!!!
  21. But if it is released in a couple months it won't be winter anymore. Website says winter 2013
  22. You are right it was a card board box. That's why I suggested a brick wall, you have to one up them
