  1. 23.976 rounds up to 23.98 They're the same thing, just being expressed with different levels of precision.
  2. A point to keep in mind, is if you're also the boom op, it isn't too realistic to create a good mix track when it is just yourself doing everything alone n the sound department.
  3. Ohhh... cheers, hadn't thought of looking into RC hobby parts for these!
  4. Ohhhh.. is that partially 3D Printed? Genius. Could you share it on Thingiverse?
  5. Wonder if the 8K is..... Sharp? (I'll let myself out now....)
  6. https://www.portabrace.com/ao-silent.html With an introductory price of $99 that is quite appealing to try out. Although I don't quite understand why the AO-1SILENT is 40% more expensive (even though it is a smaller bag!): https://www.portabrace.com/ao-1silent.html
  7. I meant on the software side it is just Metacorder or BoomRecorder, even though we have dozens (and yeah probably even hundreds, like you said) of hardware options.
  8. Interesting, I was reading the manual and I see it has an option for encryption:
  9. haha, don't think it is worth spending thousands just to make the farm machinery sound prettier! :-P
  10. He is a corporate video shooter. I reckon if you exclude retail stores (such as Gotham Sound's YouTube Channel), brands (such as say Rycote & many others), & Matt Price (who just puts out a phenomenal amount of content on YT!), then he has the best YouTube channel dealing with sound from the perspective of a non-sound professional (although he does occasional work as a sound mixer on other people's production shoots, but this seems to be a rather rare thing, and mostly he is an in house corporate shooter as a one man band production). So his target audience he aims the level of his content at is totally different to the average jwsoundgroup reader, as is his perspective, but even so Curtis Judd is a worthwhile person to follow on YouTube and to watch his relevant videos whenever you have a bit of time.
  11. Yeah but my point is I almost never power done, my F4 only sips power, so can easily last all day loooong. Thus when do you *need* to jam timecode? Only at the start of the day (and again at lunch break is reasonable, if you feel like it). How is this a problem? It is just what you'd usually do anyway, makes no difference.
  12. Yeah when you see the MixPre3 in person that thing is ridiculously tiny!
  13. Ditto, don't see a big deal here
  14. That is very very wrong! As a mixer (a HoD!) should earn at least similar to what a camera op would earn for his labour. And then add your gear rental on top of that. You must have some kind of local rental houses you can point to? As a reference for production as to what they'd need to pay for gear rentals if they didn't have what you're generously providing.
  15. Yikes! I'd hate to have to wait 10yrs to be paid....
  16. I bet it will eventually happen EVERYWHERE in the world. As everyone sources cellphones made from the same general place. So manufactures will want to keep that straightforward. But some countries will be slower at changing over, some companies will be much *much* slower in eliminating the 600MHz band (I hope I'm living in the latter!). I'll pay anyone $101 for their ZMT3!
  17. ADR is going to be done with an H4n in the editor's bedroom, thus ADR is "free". ( I wish I was joking..... but sometimes I'm not) That bugs me too! As damn, if the DoP was shooting everything on a gimbal 100% of the time then you would be absolutely certain he'd also have an assistant to hold his gimbal between shots! Well my bag is heavier than your gimbal with a DSLR on it, and I have no assistant, so can't I just at least have a g*d damn stool to rest on between set ups??? (as you know the DoP and gaffer will spend half an hour at least fluffing around...) Without people running off and sitting on it themselves. Sigh. I got ADR pushed onto me (not my choice!!) while overseas doing a feature film (looooong story), I used a hallway and blankets:
  18. Gotham Sound does the first ever unboxing video of the Sound Devices MixPre-10T: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6u79d_BT76w
  19. They had them for a firesale at 695 last year. But frankly I think the Zoom F4 is a better deal for most people.
  20. The "look" nice (better designed for bag use for one), but do they sound nice? Who knows! Am still waiting on an in depth review of them. Until then, Sony UWP-D11 continue to reign supreme as the best low budget option.
  21. Odd. I had never heard of this issue before. And I follow the F8 FB groups very carefully (as that is where the majority of discussions seem to happen). If it is due to external TC + pre roll being the specific combination which has the issue (and you want to keep pre roll), which seems to be what you're saying, then why not just purely rely on only internal TC? As the internal TC is very good, so long as you don't turn it off (which is very easily solved with an external battery). Simple enough, the problem is "gone" now!
  22. That is prevented by the threat of the Zaxcom lawyers once again. This is why the Tascam DR10 became the Tascam DR10L (which removed the headphone jack) in the United States.
  23. I'm very surprised that that we don't have more options and more advanced options when it comes to computer recordings. Basically how it is now in 2017 is we have very limited options (such as BoomRecorder being one of the few options) that are hardly under active development at the moment. I guess the issue is that our niche (cart recordings for film, as realistically, you're not going to use a computer in your bag while also booming! Although maybe that will change, could use a Windows tablet?) as a far far too tiny niche to get much support for it from these fringe ideas we're discussing here.
  24. Good ideas Constantin/Philip, except..... Zaxcom lawyers once again get in the way of that!! That is why the Tascam DR10C can't be sold in the USA, and instead they sell the Tascam DR10L (which lacks the output option on it).
