  1. I'm considering adding a MicroTrak II as a backup "bit box" for my FR-2, and am going to need to go from the 3-pin XLR Digital Out on the FR-2 to the RCA plug S/PDIF in... Can I use a cable like this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/353774-REG ? Or- will I need an adapter to handle the conversion to S/PDIF? TIA - John
  2. Has anyone tried, or looked at, the Skyworth 12 volt LCD screens? They have a couple of models that look like they could be an affordable option: http://www.12volt-travel.com/12-volt-televisions-c-684.html?filter_id=337&sort=20a HDMI v1.3a inputs, HDTV Compatible (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p), Composite & Component Video Input, VGA in (D-sub 15 pin), Aspect Ratio:16:9. I've been tempted to buy one since they're around $250. John Moore
  3. I have a B3 hardwired to XLR (B3P4FF05B), I have recently purchase a Sennheiser G2 wireless system & wanted to make an adapter for the 3.5 mm locking plug. I thought I could add a plug to the end of the B3 wire & a jack to the end of the XLR power supply body... This way I could use it both wired & wireless. Anybody done anything like this? I know I can contact Countryman, but I thought I'd ask here first. I did check on the Countryman site, and the wiring diagram for the 3.5 mm plug is the same as the XLR preamp body- so I figure this should work. (Note: I cross-posted this on the DVXUser site, I hope that's okay!). John
  4. I left my blue crushed velour bellbottoms in a hotel in Southern California in 1971... I wonder if they would still fit? John "Alpha Flying Monkey" Moore
  5. In case you're interested in the Pearl MSH-10 there is one for sale on the Taperssection board: http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=131781.0 No relation, John
  6. I was in Sydney Australia in 1977 & I don't remember there being any Legos or wireless mics...
  7. I visited a set a couple of weeks ago & the sound guy was using an old "MiniWinnie" (called "The Twinky"). I asked him about doing what you are talking about doing & he said he tried it, but preferred the small Class C RV over a trailer... Makes it easier to move, when it might be in the shot. 8. I received the mixer today & it is in excellent shape... I tested all of the channels with my mics (Rode NTG-1, NTG-3, AKG CK93/SE300B, AT3031, AT3032) and everything checked out fine. I wanted to make sure that the P48 was capable enought to run the AT3031 & AT3032 mics, because they're a bit fussy, but they sound quite clean. I'm still not that thrilled about the bottom panel for both input & output, but I'll either make it work, re-sell it, or build a new box for the guts... I figure I could reposition the inputs & outputs, as well as change the power input to either XLR4 or Hirose (like the rest of my gear). I'll try to test it out on some recordings & post results later on.
  9. I don't think so... I'm not sure how these end up in the States- probably the original owner brought it home. I do like how the 4220 looks- lots of color on the knobs!
  10. I get it now (d'oh)... I wouldn't mind trying out the 4220, since it has the CF recorder built in- something like the new Sound Devices SD552, only smaller. I'll post some feedback on the 4210 when I get a chance to test it out... I doubt it will replace my Wendt X3, but it might come in handy. John Moore
  11. Alan- You've linked to the 4220, this is the 4210. The 4210 requires 10-15 V DC @ 3 VA... is that a better spec? (http://www.marenius.se/products/mm4210.html)
  12. I'm getting the 4210 for $320 shipped, so I kind of like the price! The main thing that I don't like about it is the inputs/outputs are on the rear of the unit... I can make that work in my bag, but it's not as convenient as my Wendt X3 (left side inputs, right side outputs).
  13. Sorry for the cross-post, but I'm trying to find some info... Anyone familiar with the MM-4210 mixer? I'm considering picking up one either as an extra for me, or for a friend who might need a mixer. John Moore
  14. The main drawback is the size of these blankets (40" x 72") compared to the "Producers Choice" from Mover's Supplies (72" x 80)... You would have to sew 4 of the Harbor Freight blankets together to make something close & that would end up costing more ($24).
  15. Instead of adding grommets I picked up a set of screw-down clips from Harbor Freight ($3.99/4) that work quite well: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=91858 As Richard just mentioned- the Harbor Freight blankets are quite thin... They're also smaller (40" x 72"). I picked up 6 and have used them more often to block light from windows.
