I’m a Sound Trainee/Assistant and Location PSC Sound Recordist based In the North East of England. I have experience working on Drama, Corporate and Short Film productions.
  1. I've recently purchased an old Micron VHF transmitter and 2 receivers, which I'm using as an IEM system. I've spoken with Tanky at Micron and he's managed to get the pin wiring for the transmitter but hasn't had any luck with the receivers yet Do any of you know the pin wiring for the SR120.1 and the SR620.3? Thanks in advance. Ross
  2. Thanks for replies. I don't suppose you would be able to use negative bias trams with the G2? I've been offered a pair from a sound recordist I've worked with in the past. I think he might have the negative bias version. I would like to get them off him as it would save me money. Would it be a case of wiring Negative to tip and Positive and shield to ground on the 3.5mm connector? regards Ross.
  3. Hi all, I know you can use the TR50's with the senny's G2's, but which is best the bias to use with the G2's? Positive Bias or Negative Bias? Kind Regards Ross.
  4. Hi all, I'm wondering if I can run a possible workflow by you all as this isn’t something I normally do on this scale. I’ve got a possible job coming up that involves a re-record of a voice over for a wild life documentary. At the moment it’s all speculative so far but I want to come into the first meeting with some idea of where I want to take this. So far I know they’re looking to re-record the voice over for a wild life documentary into Pashto for educational use within Afghanistan. They have managed to get copies of the documentary on DVD without the English voice over track and just with the music and sfx mix. They have a script and it is currently been translated. I have access to a Avid MC editing system, a Pro tools HD based recording studio with command 24 (with out Digi translator) and a Pro Tools LE editing system (without DV Tool kit) What I’m thinking is using a total file based work flow. First off ingest the DVD into Avid MC at High res. Add a TC burn to the video track. Then Export the video to a Quicktime and the Audio to an AIFF. Then import the Quicktime and audio file into the Pro Tool HD system for the voice recording. The studio is set up so I can place the video into another display where I can see it in the control rooms secondary display and the artist also has a monitor on the same feed. Once recorded save the session to an external drive. Then take the session to a Pro Tools LE system for editing and mixing. Then bounce to AIFF Transfer the AIFF back to the Avid Sync up back up in the Avid. Then Quicktime REF into Avid DVD and then back out to DVD. My main worry is understand whats been said even though I’ll have an English script, it’s when it comes to the editing. I haven’t looked into it yet but is it possible to add metadata or add comments to the audio takes? I’m thinking of copying the English text into the comments or metadata. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Kind Regards Ross Collier Sound Trainee/Assistant.
  5. Thanks found the problem on the digidesign forum. Turns out it's an issue with IE8 which is now in the Auto update and apart of windows 7. It messes with some of the pro tools plug ins. I'm not a fan of PCs too but Mac are still too costly for my liking and budget at the moment. But woking on saving up for one.
  6. I've done a fresh reinstall of Win XP pro on my pc. I've reinstalled Pro Tools 8 with all the creative pack too. When I do the first load up and it loads the plug-ins for the first time it gets as far as structure and stalls. This is the first time I've done a clean install with PT8 as when I first installed PT8 I still had 7.4. I've reinstalled it and re-downloaded the installer and the same thing happens. Though if I remove the creative pack and then run Pro Tools 8 again it comes up as normal. Any thoughts? 7. Thanks for the responses. I’ll pass this on to my friend and make a note of this in my camera setups log. It does beg the question how a camera that is sold as a “professional” piece of kit gets on the market with clearly a problem with the audio. I know now if I do another corporate gig on this camera I’m adding my H4n as a back up recorder in mixer bag in future. Thanks again.
  8. A friend of mine who's a technician at a local College has had a few complainants from students about a buzzing noise from the Sony DSR-PD170. The college has about 6 of these cameras ranging from 3 to 1 years of age and they are serviced yearly. All 6 have this noise issue. He’s ruled out all the other equipment and the noise is coming from the cameras. I’ve googled the issue can’t find anything about it or issues about a similar noise. I’ve also worked with the PD170 on corporate gigs and never had complainants from editor’s or producers about noise. A sample of the noise can be heard in the link below. http://rosscollier.webs.com/pd170noise.htm The noise to me seems to be transport noise that’s been picked before its goes through the AD convertor. I think it’s more on the lines of a design flaw with the camera as its unlikely all 6 have become faulty. Because of the cost to the college my friend doesn’t want to send them back to Sony to be told it’s a design flaw. Has anyone come across this before and is there a way of reducing the impact of the noise on the recording? Thanks
