    Zaxcom- MAXX

Hi Stefanosound, Email Zaxcom direct. They dont bite. 😊 The price may have changed since I got mine. The cost in my local currency has been volatile so the cost for me has changed by 10-15% in local currency. They can ship the board to you direct or to your countrys Zaxcom dealer to fit. If you are confident going inside the mixer and have taken precautions against static discharge its an easy install though no instructions come its pretty obvious.
  2. Filming onboard historic vessels before the start of a race across the North Sea.
  3. Not seen the rfexplorer before. Thanks for the link. I did a tour de france job where the huge amount of rf on site knocked all my mics off and even interfered with my cars remote alarm meaning i couldn t unlock properly to replace a dead battery on the camera. I got the door open and got a battery but the alarm would not stop making one hell of a racket. Battery replaced. Once the circus had moved on I could get back to work.
  4. Hi, I thought someone might have use for this. A small SDR and RTL2832 dongle combo for scanning frequencies if having problems with radio mics or RF interference. I use HDSDR but there are plenty of others around that are free including some basic spectrum analysers. The dongle connects via usb2 and antenna via sma. Inside the dongle the rtl chip can receive from 100khz to 2ghz (my version). Most do 50mhz up to 1.5ghz. Might be good for troubleshooting RF. GlennP

  6. Hi Jack, Are there any other how to Zaxcom PDFs? I fitted the AES and it seemed straight forward. I ve yet to test as I m waiting for the de15 and 45degree housing for the AES in outs. I googled the battery change and came up with a thread on jwsound about a Nomad but Derek H posted that it was near the CF slot for Maxx so I took a look. I m normally on my phone when I search as I m out filming (arent we all 😊) . Sometimes sites aren t optimized for mobile and its hard to comes across stuff but JW and FB are good for pics and tips. Really dig the internal battery fit for Rado Maxx project on FB. Hope the pics helped Prahad. Glenn (P)

    Zaxcom- MAXX

I negotiated a major discount with the seller who was at one point still insisting the unit had AES and 4 track record and holding out for the full price. I wanted all the upgrade costs, shipping fees, any workshop time and my replacement hire covered. I wanted any 'suprises' covered. The vendor had another unit to sell and got within $50 of my discounted price once he put the correct info in his advert. So I thought that my discount was fair. I now have the Maxx with AES board fitted and have upgraded the 2 tracks to 8 tracks and will replace the internal TC battery next week as the Maxx is 3 yrs old and I suspect its never been done. Seems to hold TC on power cycle though. Dealing with Zaxcom by email and Skype was all good. No issues. Parts arrived into UK very quickly once the order was set into process. Fitted 2 days later. All seem to be working OK. Was going to test AES into a clients PMW Xdcam camera today but I havent had a chance to solder the cables. Thanks also for the help and advice from jwsound forum users.
  8. Ha! 😁😁😁😁 I googled maxx battery change. Couldn t find anything. I have a pics of an AES board install but I bet there s a pdf somewhere. 😆 (I might need Zaxcom permission to post that). Glenn
  9. Hey, Just thought I might post a couple of pics on how to replace the internal 'watch type' battery in the Maxx. Left panel screws off and nut retaining the bnc. Screws are the same size. Battery just under the cf card tray. Replace and reassemble.
  10. Hi, There a quite a few guys on here using the F8 on eng/doco gigs. The production co I occasionally work for used one on a recent production. Prevoiously they used a freelancer with Zaxom or SD633. The recorder seemed fine (iso audio ok) but they had some problems with operator error and TC issues.😆 Check out the facebook f8 group. Useful stuff there. Look, the zoom is very very low cost purchase. Its not got the cachet of Zax or SD but it s a lot for less. I ve bought 10s of thousands of dollars of kit off Ebay in the past 5 years. I ve had luck.....good and bad. Latest buy has been a bit of a nightmare so it's a bit of a lottery. I use the Senny G2/G3 on camera gigs that I do in the UK. They are fine for that and for camera hops. Rodelink I never used so can t comment. My Microns sound better than the Sennys though. I use them on better paid jobs. I m no expert by any means but thats my 2c worth.

    Maxx TC

Hi Phillip and Derek, Yeah I know the phone isn t a great source of TC ☺. It was just an easy test since I ve got it with me always. Its convenient for syncing a couple of cameras for a 2 cam interview shoot. I can set up the cams light and then give each cam a squirt of TC without having to run cables or move the setup. I can view the b cam shot via wifi on the phone. It also makes calls. 😊 I would have liked to test the Maxx against an Ambient or Deneke with a comparator but the rental facilities near me dont really do sound. It was a quick and dirty test and thanks for the words of reassurance from you guys. Still trying to work out a deal with the Maxx. Best, Glenn

    Zaxcom- MAXX

$395 for multitrack and $395 for AES but I ve now been told that the AES needs a board which contradicts the earlier info supplied. $1195 for TX option. Maxx going back to vendor. Thanks for your help guys.
