Doing a search would be good. Lots of going back and forth about this. Like its been said, very personal. I've owned the WS4 for my schoeps MS setup for a long time. Recently I bought a Zephyx to replace it and all I can say is WOW! Transparent, reduces handling noise, for me its a much better system. I also own the Piano and again, it is amazing. Much easier to boom with and my boom ops love it for that reason. They are a bit more fragile but still very hearty. They always do the job. The basket themselves are floated which makes them move around and absorb any mechanical/wind noise without making sounds. It throws people off but man they work great.

I'm definitely going to be there. Pretty sure production will have some sort of pass/credentials. It's going to be crazy me thinks! Got booked for the Inauguration and the Womens March. Then I found out about these shows at the black cat. If I have the energy I will be at the Anti-Ball show with some very cool bands and acts. On the 20th there's going to be the No Thanks show. I went from powering my bags with v-mounts to the new IE batteries and it's been rock solid. Lighter and less bulky than the v-mounts with longer run times. The AR battery cups are super nice. After reading up on them here it really is true that they snap and lock into place. I use both the big batts and the half joints. Most of the time I'm on the bigger ones. I want to do an upgrade and get one of the AR distro units. Thats my next step..... I can power my 744t/552/qrx235 combo all day with a single 98whr battery. I can go 3/4 of a day with the x3....

I really love the Zaxcom stuff. Before I bought a system I rented all sorts of lectro stuff. Then I decided to try Zaxcom and I just cant say enough good things about it. It's really not that hard to use! Like people have said, if you read the manual its surprisingly easy to use. Ontop of that, they have the OLED displays which spells all parameters out in plain easy to understand text. The new software even makes it simpler by breaking down the different parameters into sub categories which simplifies everything even more. For example, theres a submenu for time code, zaxnet, transmit, etc etc so you can make changes quickly. I use the QRX235 with my 744t/442 combo and my x3 with no issues. Seriously, dont buy into the online posts that say Zaxcom is too complicated to use. It's really easy and has a great feature set! All this said, I still rent lectro stuff when I need it, but really miss all the extras like remote gain change, transmitters record feature and all....

Slightly related, but here's an experience I've had with my 744t and a internal CF reader. Like has been said before, power draw is super minimal. I haven't noticed any difference really. What I did notice is that the machine boots up faster. Then one day I decided to use my Qrx's digital out set to 96k...ontop of running the two analog lines for a total of 4 tracks. The internal CF reader was not able to keep up with data rates and stopped completely. The CF in the CF card slot came through however. I guess the interface between the old style hard drive to CF is the weak link here. I wonder if the SSD adapter has more throughoutput?

Yep, stuff happens as has been discussed here in depth. I've had my 744t fail completely. It happened once, lost everything on the drive. SD people were perplexed. I've also rented a 788t from one of the usual suspects which again failed completely very recently. Mid take, live show, not good. I had to pull the battery let it sit for a sec and restart. After explaining what happened they could hardly believe me and they told me that they were going to send in the 788t for a factory checkup. Called a week later to inquire about the factory findings and it turns out they never sent it in because they couldn't replicate the problem I had. Luckily, I had the 744t on backup and I was able to use something from it to cover the scene. I guess I come back to my opening line: stuff happens! It sucks when you don't catch it in the moment to request a re-take. I never liked how easy it is to accidentally hit the 'stop' or 'rec' button on the SD stuff. That being said, when I upgraded my recorder I did not go the SD route...or a Zaxcom, though I love the Zax wireless.

That is pretty sweet! I might have to get one for my 744/442 rig!

Vark Audio has them. I was told that they are right angle. Specifically pointing in the 6 o'clock position. I dont think you can change the orientation to another degree.... So if that particular angle interferes with your device's layout, it might not work.

Hey Jurg, It's been a while and apologies for the slow response, but thanks for getting back with all your info. I think I'm going to skip the slate mic for this time and just buy a HN set with the straight cable in the future. Good to know about the coiled cable too. I could easily imagine how something tugging on the left would be distracting. Btw, the mogami mini quad cable works great for headphones. I had to re-wire some old Beyers and used the Mogami cable and I'm very happy with the outcome! -Ivan

Like some of you have mentioned, I too hope they keep up the high standard of manufacturing on these mics.....

I just got two 4063's for my trxla2's/3's and they live up to all the expectations. I also find that it mixes really well with the cmit/ccm41 very nicely. When I was first researching I really wanted the 4063 slim version. Currently it's not in the market but it's in the works. Also, they do make a 4073 version for Zaxcom. At least that's what I was told when I spoke to them about two weeks ago.

Hey Jurg, How did the retrofitting go? I'm thinking about picking up the system to use with some of my 7506's. Are you pretty happy with the system? How was the installation and retrofitting of the regular 7506's? Any info would be stellar. I tried downloading the PDF from RA but the link didn't work. Has anyone used the Remote Audio's modular cable design with built in slate mic? I like the idea of being able to switch cables with different phones but haven't had a chance to try one out yet. I wonder if the slate mic closer to the voice will make it sound better.....but yes, it's still a slate mic....

I hope it's not too off topic but I use the qrx235 with my 744t/552 combo and feed it a mix like KG mentioned. If the Maxx has a TC in/out in one connector you can just have one cable that does TC both ways. The 744t has a lemo 5 pin I believe which does TC in/out so all I need is one cable. All that being said, I think there's a lot of features that you get when pairing it with a Zax recorder but perhaps this is only with the Nomad? Putting transmitters into record when the record button is pressed in the recorder is pretty sweet.

I replaced the internal drive with a PATA to CF adapter. So now the internal 'drive' is the 64gb CF card. It works flawlessly and boots up in no time. Doing file transfers are still painfully slow but I usually grab the removable CF card for delivery anyways. I do think it runs a little cooler though. I don't think the CF cards generate as much heat as the SSD, but I'm probably wrong about that. It's been working great so far! -ivan

My 442 is still going strong though I do want to send it in for a checkup. The ballpark that SD quoted me on was $350-$450. It also needs the newest firmware update. At the moment it won't read my lithium v-mounts correctly. But other than that it is still going strong. Never hiccuped on me yet. That being said, a friend lent me his 552 and I haven't gone back to the 442. I love having the controls on the top faceplate and the added gain on the inputs. Will never let go of the 442. It's definitely a nice sounding unit!

Hey guys and gals, Another drummer here. It's quite amazing how many drummers end up doing this kind of work. I think its maybe because its an acoustic intrument with a wide dynamic range that gets the ears going. Anyways, yep, I'm another drummer to join the pool party... My favourite drum mics are the Sony C37-a and my Schoeps ccm41/8 ms rig that i sometimes capture ambience with. These guys travel with me to almost every session along with some 44bx's and a 77dx. Has anyone tried booming with a 44bx? Hehe
