  1. Hi everyone,

Today I tried to put an old UCR 401 to use again after a while and faced the following issue. The pilot tone indicator keeps blinkIng and the CHECK FREQ appears as well even though the RF level indicator is full. No audio.

I've tried this with a smqv and a lma transmitter. I've doubled checked the frequency, tried different ones, but still nothing. Compatibility mode is at 400 which should be fine for both transmitters. Am I doing something wrong or is the unity really defective ?

  2. Hi. I've just bought EBL's 9v batteries and charger that were recommended here a while ago. The charger only comes with an USB cable. Would it be ok to use a cellphone charger with it to plug it in an ordinary socket?

    Best,

For the CS3e that might be tough. You’ll have to call around. The Koala stuff was discontinued in 2012 or 2013 if I remember right. When I heard it I went out and bought a couple spares for my 416s. I always regretted not getting a spare for my cmit, but so far the original is still holding up fine.

Hi Jon. The model for the 416 fits the cs3e. If you are looking to sell one of your spares, I'm here! 😁

No need to say you're a lucky man

  4. I really love the Koala fluffy and was looking to buy one for my cs3e but I heard they were discontinued. Does anyone by any chance know of some shop that would still have it in stock? If so, please tell

  5. Thank you for sharing. I'm in a very humid place, so the smaller moisture absorbing packets get moisty/pink really quick. I would have to send them to the oven everyday in order to reuse them. A dehumidifier for the room is too expensive. I'm getting something in between for the closet where I keep the equipment, something like the eva-dry portable dehumidifier.

  6. There are only some segments that will be done this way. Mostly we will be working with a sony fs 7. The idea of an external video recorder like a pix is a very good one that I'll shall pass to production. I don't expect long takes, Phill, but I still know very little.  I'll warn them about all the fudging required in post if they wanna go that way.

  7. Hi,

I'm doing a film soon where the director wants to shoot some of the material with a vhs camera (he didn't specified yet what model they will be using).  I assume that vhs cameras don't have any crystal system for keeping sync, right? Supposing we do short segments of dialog only, do you have any idea if we could get away with it or single-system is the only way to go   (not a very good one also, and this supposing I could send some audio to the camera, which I don't know yet)?

  9. Hi,

I would like to know how you guys store your equipment. What kind of measures do you take to preserve it  against problems like humidity for instance, specially humidity, really. Besides a climatized room, are there any low cost solutions?

  10. How do you deal with this sma connector, really? I can't be the only one having trouble with it. Many times what happens is that the antenna gets loose or the screw on the connector gets loose. It's really annoying and it already cost me one antenna that simply fell down wihtout me noticing. BNC would be bulkier, uglier, but so much more reliable.

  11. Hi,

I'm getting this bizarre noise on m Nomad's 4th input when the phantom power is on, with or withou a mic plugged in. If I turn off phantom powerm this noise goes off but I still have considerable hiss compared to the other inputs. Anyone? I'm kind of desesperate and far far away from the mothership...

  12. I second what Christian said.  I have had to do this several times with my Oktava's.  I've also had to do it on Schoeps.  Those little screws loosen up over time and can make some very odd noises.

    Hi, Sheldon

I already had the screws  issue and had to tight them up. I dont think this is the issue this time. These are very sutil clicks, not the kind of nasty sounds that I got from loose screws. And the screws are well tiight, I've checked

  13. 200 proof isopropyl alcohol (100%) from an electronics store or web
I like to keep the individual packs in the kit (but it's what I used for Nagra head cleaning) http://www.techspray.com/p-9-isopropyl-alcohol-ipa-wipes-998.aspx?referrer=/c-12-isopropyl-alcohol-ipa.aspx  also good for cleaning skin before sticky products are used

probably the amount your want http://www.markertek.com/product/tesp-1610-50pk/techspray-1610-50pk-isopropyl-alcohol-pre-saturated-wipes-50-count?utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_source=googlebase&utm_source=google&utm_term=Product_Target&utm_campaign=Shopping+Top+Movers&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=I7f0YoJg|pcrid|60581947940|pdv|c|&gclid=CNDOm6zo8MUCFdKIfgodvnMAZQ

a bottle is good to have for cleaning parts after solder repair work and cleaning with cotton tips

just do not use the drugstore stuff with water or mineral oil in it

    Hi, Craig

Have you used it for this purpose of mic cleaning?

  14. If you'll supply complete information as well as your troubleshooting steps I might be able to help.

    Hi, John

    - I've changed the cables; then the inputs on my recorder; then the capsule of the mic. Maybe Phillip is right and there is the need of some cleaning on the part of the body of the mic that touches the capsule. If so, what would you use to clean it without making bigger mess?

  15. ^ all good questions! Check the sex of your connections and make sure males and females are all where they should be. Also some amps i have found dont work properly if not fed enough signal from the transmitter.

    -Ken

    Hi, Ken

Jonh Blankership had mentioned this on the other thread. I don't still know if I get it. If I use a female connector to plug it on the antenna, it wouldn't fit simply. I reversed the cable polarity then, but then I got no signal on the amp (so I guess, mine are not RP). If you look for this at wikipedia, it sounds like an institutionalized prank: "Because they were not readily available, RP-TNC connectors have been widely used by Wi-Fi equipment manufacturers to comply with specific local regulations, such as those from the FCC,[3] which are designed to prevent consumers from connecting antennas which exhibit gain and therefore breach compliance. The FCC considered that the RP-TNC was acceptable in preventing consumers changing the antenna; but by 2000 it regarded them as readily available,[4] though delaying its ruling indefinitely.[5] As of 2013, leading manufacturers are still using RP-TNC connectors on their Wi-Fi equipment.[6]"
