  1. there's quite a difference in self-noise, if that's a concern. i've had 2 sankens, a cs3e and css5 stereo mic and was occasionally miffed at the self noise, especially the css5 w 5 electret capsules. i dont own them anymore and have not done a direct comparison between mkh and cs3 but i know i'm hanging on to the 8060! i originally got it as backup for a cmit that needed service and now that the cmit is back i'm still mostly using the 8060. what a great sounding mic. (null)
  2. looks like an old carbon mic or something of that era. (null)
  3. i've been using 23.98 w a denecke ts-c jammed to nomad on a regular basis and post has been very happy. occasionally i get a sync error mssg on the slate when jamming but this warning has proven itself to be irrelevant when i know the slate is correctly set to position #4. sync has been solid. (null)
  4. i've been using a kortwich for nomad and i'm very happy w it. light and sturdy. and pretty roomy. i got the waistbelt which is a nice option but the bag flops a bit too much for me w just a belt so i removed the lower section of my versaflex and use the harness upper along w the belt and for me it's a big improvement over just the belt or harness on its own. i'm 6'4" tall and could never quite find just the right adjustment on the harness' lower section. 5. ahh, ok. i'll look around for a uni case. thank you! (null)
  6. also, is there some sort of belt clip available for the ERX? seems odd that an ifb receiver wouldnt ship w a clip. (null)
  7. thanks for all the comments. ERXTCD arrived today and is working wonderfully w nomad. i had lying around a pr of comtek mono headsets that sufferred having the connector sheered off when a client hooked it on a doorknob (the senn IEM was fine) so i rewired those w a stereo plug and and all is well. no battery drainage and they are what most scripties around here are used to. just did some walk tests and i'm loving the ERX! (null)
  8. i just read in the ERX manual that comtek headsets will cut the volume and reduce battery life considerably. this doesn't happen w stereo sennheiser IEM Rxs. why does it happen w the zax? and what headsets are a good bet, also nearly expendable like the comteks?
  9. i use the same one i used w a 552, twin xlrs and a stereo mini. just had remote audio build a short return cable that accepts a male stereo mini and plugs into nomad. (null)
  10. well dang, that's the symptom i had w mine, i could wiggle the xlr slightly and the buzz would either get worse or disappear. at any rate i think it's on its way to germany already. sent it to trew nashville hoping they could find something simple such as what you found w your torx screws but they fwd'd it to redding already, and if no one stopped to look at it, it would have left yesterday w redding's friday shipment to germany. at least it'll get a full checkup. either way buying a 8060 on monday. (null)
  11. mine just went back to germany to try to remedy the same problem. it developed the problem suddenly, and soon got so bad it began to hum when touched.. like a ground fault, so i'm pretty sure it can be fixed. (null)

me too! it will continue to out-live its era for decades to come, i'm sure. (null)
  13. rf spray from stereoline tx is not a problem. it's on blk 26, SR is blk 20, 411's on 21 and 28. rarely use 28. if adding more Rx's within a block from 26 then i switch to the filtered tx antenna and all is fine. i do see some slight rf from nomad on 21 but it hasn't caused any problems so far. (null)
  14. rado, yes that's a stereoline. works great and i like the ergonomics. (null)
  15. mine is getting lighter all the time. from (4) 411's and a 552 w hop and power in a eargonizer2 to what i have now: (2) 411's, (1)SRa, nomad, stereoline hop, bds+ lithium NP1 in a 601bag. it's a good 5 lbs lighter. prob weighs 12-13 lbs loaded. i mostly run w just the SR and it's very light once the 411's are removed. i'm seriously considering a kortwich bag w waist belt very soon, to make it even lighter and also allow space between the Rx's and the recorder. (null)
  16. for IFB, adjusting the 'AF output' to +6 or +12 will drive comtek headsets just fine. i already use several of the IEM variety for IFB and if extra IFB units are needed a regular non-IEM receiver on the same band works well in a pinch, the only big compromise having a semi-fixed volume control. (null)
  17. i started test w nomad off. picture sequence was reversed via photobucket upload. it places the most recent pic first. (null)
  18. here's a block 20 SRa scan w nomad off and on. no difference in rf. nomad 'on' scan looks exactly the same as nomad 'off' scan. edit: forgot to mention, SR and nomad both powered from BDS v3
  19. tell me about it!! i'm on set now and seriously distraught w this situation. the batteries were alkaline. if using them could KILL the machine by discharging acid into the inside of the chassis, you'd think i would have heard about it. if it's that fatal seems like a warning or something would be printed on the battery door. i read the manual several times and read these threads thoroughly and just didn't know. oh well. i'll be fedex'ing it back to NJ on monday. it wont boot at all. major bummer. hopefully this can be a WARNING to other users. i'm covered for now, i'm on a night shoot where i don't need to be mobile. i have a metric halo 2882 and a mac book pro that'll get me thru the job but next week i'll have to rent something for the bag jobs that are booked. really regretting selling my 552 right now.
  20. thanks for reply. i'm aware of everything you mention and suspect that the tc from nomad is faulty. no matter now, my battery sled just exploded and nomad is DEAD. luckily i have time to set up a boom recorder rig before the first shot. (!!!!) (null)
  21. has anyone been seeing TC sync issues when jamming TC from nomad? i only get a sync error warning on nomad 23.98 and nomad 29.97. other nomad frame rates are fine. my denecke TS-C shows 'sync err 24' when jamming from nomad 23.98 about 75% of the time. so i put the slate in AUTO and when it does sync without an error it says 'sync 23'. it shows 'sync err 30' when jamming from nomad 29.97NDF. after an error mssg i'm seeing noticable drift within less than an hour. of course these are the only TC frame rates i ever use and they both are screwy, leaving me no option but to use radios (one TX and two RX's) to send TC from nomad to slate and camera. as a test i jammed a denecke sync box as a buffer from nomad then jammed other device(s) from it and i get the same result.
  22. exactly! how much do you want to lose at once?! i had a newish sandisk extreme die on me a couple months ago (yes purchased from solid retailer). very unlikely but it did happen.
