  1. I am using them on some jobs with the 4060s and they are the weakest link(sic) in the system. They add some -unnecessary - length to the connection and they are rather delicate. If I am getting the 6060s they will be one-piece plugged!

Can anyone give us clearly the pros and cons of a 2.4Ghz system vs a more traditional approach? As I see it, the most cost effective solution right now is 2.4Ghz and we have Rode Go/Sennheiser XS = consumer range. Sennheiser AVX prosumer/1 man bands. Rodelink/Audio Technica ATW and soon the Deity system at the higher end of 2.4Ghz. Full analog (G3/G4 territory?) Hybrid (Sony UWP at the bottom and the rest at the middle and the high end) Full digital which is Zaxcom? If anyone with more experience in wireless systems can clear these out a bit, it would be really hepful for some of us. Suddenly there are too many options!
  3. Thank you for the insight. I said earlier also that it is an exciting time for young people making it into our business. When I started 20 years ago, "normal" pricing pro equipment was non existent. There are a lot of products to be announced soon and we will see how it goes. I am buying into Sanken CS-M1 (+Cinela) and 6060 to add to my arsenal, shall I pause and wait for the Deity alternatives? Or go on with my decisions? The whole industry is evolving right now (in both sight and sound), companies like Aputure/Deity/Yongnuo/DJI certainly will stir the industry a lot more and blur lines and borders even further. All in all exciting times, I am waiting to "hear" their new products. P.s wasn't me about the 5Dmkii!
  4. We definitely have to listen to them first, but the first Aputure Deity was advertised as a 416 killer, and shamefuly copied the same design for no particular reason at all, and those mics internally had nothing in common at all. Aputure admitted that and had a second version in less than a year. Now they are moving to a 3rd shorter version I see. I can see how a wireless system can be cheaper nowdays, and that is why I am interested in their system, but I am being sceptical of a brand that in 2-3 years is covering the whole market, in all designs (they even will produce a studio/vlog mic with multiple patterns!), for 1/3 or less of the price of established manufacturers. Until now I haven't "heard" anything impressive by them, maybe some designs undercut a few Audio Technica/Rode options - which were never in my radar anyway - especially price wise, but my impression is that they experiment with our pockets and time. Of, course, I believe there is a hefty premium in the market and depending the brand some top options are quite expensive, but as we have discuss in here, that is relatively relative! DPA 6060 are very expensive, but in my opinion seem to tick the most boxes, that is why I will "invest" on a few of those. If the Deity will be close in performance, for half the price, I may get some of those too! I said I am sceptical, not dogmatic.
  5. Maybe Deity had you and your students in mind when will have locally their W series that probably will start from double digit price! Joke aside, there are a lot of options under 99€ from Audio Technica, cheaper Sennheisers and Sonys that we all have used at some point in our professional career, probably Rode and other brands also have ok offerings e.t.c Now, if you want a DPA 6060 performer for 99€, then nope, that is not possible.

You tell me! I am that professional...
  7. http://oscarsoundtech.com These are good and cheap. These lavaliers are super cheap, the 239€ ones are - supposedly - competing with the 6060 ones, and the 189$ ones (whatever he said) are "competing" with the 4060 ones. I do not know how they sound, and I am definitely going to have some 6060 soon, but for the money of 2 6060 one can buy 5 of those and have a full set for cheap. Aputure Deity is very aggressive with everything at the moment.

I am slightly excited, I will probably get 2 Ch just in case! Reading the forum today, I noticed how many "cheap" products are worthy talking about recently, while years ago it was only G3, a Tascam or 2, and Rode started to make a dent in the industry, almost like Aputure does right now. Exciting times for young filmakers, they can be really productive for cheap.

How many of those can be used simultaneously? I wasn't planning to build a kit put of them, but 2 or 4 additional channels make sense for some uses.

There are at least 2 solutions for bigger ones (3D printed). One from Seattle with similar, but much bigger ones (try ebay), and one from Spain (EFKsound), which are round, multicolored and laser engraved which are the ones I preffered. Very professional made, very good communication and you get an invoice also (if you are EU based it may matters to you).

Wow! I think I heard "669$". I wonder how this price will translate in European money! If it is close to 700-749 for 2 TX I can see a lot of people having at least a set to their kits, from the absolute amateur to the most knowledgeable pro. It is the price of 2 X cheap Senn/Rode ones of the same technology. I wanted to buy into a 2.4Ghz set for some time now.
  12. It is logical to place it between an F4 and an F8 in price.
  13. The one-click connection is very handy, the reduction in size also. Such a pity for my own that are almost new (I have used just 2 of those for a couple of interviews and the other two are brand new). I would gladly pay a premium for the reduced size.
  14. In the video they face each other so you can not see either screen. Maybe it has to do something with this.
  15. Cos11 is smaller in diameter than 4060, but the new 6060 is the bee's knees, probably!
  16. That, changes everything!
  17. I have both also, I consider the Audix at least a tier or two above the Oktava. For production sound on a boom, the Oktava is almost unusable.
  18. 100% agree. Also, great advice in the end. Usually 3-5 "points of contact" are enough. I see all the newbies wrap the cable unlimited times around the pole which puts too much pressure on the pole/cable and can not adjust pole's length if you want (you have to unwrap the whole cable for even the slightest change).
  19. I am bringing back this thread because I thought I was set at the QXS580, but now that I will try to use the CS-M1 and the Cosi, I feel that the Ambient will be a bit heavier and a bit shorter for my intended use of an all arounder. Has anyone test the new VDB L-QT? It is 80-390 and 500gr while the QXS580 It is 80-330 and 590gr. I hated the older VDBs though. I seriously hated them, and I love Ambient, but I am open to suggestions and experiences. Is maybe a Panamic a better solution?
  20. Sure, just my impression that is loosing slightly more when connected to the HawkWoods. Just a minor setback, really. Now, I just take the battery out at the end of the day anyway. Cheers.
  21. Any additional reviews or comments? I am about to match it with a Cinela Cosi for run n gun ( fast int/ext) situations and it seems like the best compromise.
  22. @Allen RowandRoERowandRoE Excellent solution for the F8, there is an on/off switch, but I noticed that even when off, the battery looses some power, and if you leave it there for a few days, completely depletes. I do not know if it is just mine but it is a bit annoying, but no big deal. A great solution, especially if you have some L batteries around, like I do.

I didn't read the article because I am leaving for work right now, but why exactly the F8 is an "experimental" device? I choose the F8 and I believe I saved quite a lot (1200€ vs 700€). Is the original any inferior than the n in build quality? I wouldn't think so..

Some very interesting ideas for the price. 10/25/50/100mV is a great choice to have. The way they use the latency - for signal and not for encryption - is a bit suspect, but no biggie I guess. Is the microphone mount compatible with the Sony's system, or only G3/Rodelink?
