  1. On a whim, I tried loading up the secure HTTPS version of this site (https://jwsoundgroup.net versus http://jwsoundgroup.net). Before, I usually got an error message since the site doesn’t have HTTPS enabled, but what I get today is something totally unexpected… Tried it in Firefox, Safari, Chrome, with my browser extensions enabled, with my browser extensions disabled, and on my phone using mobile data. Same thing. Is it happening for anyone else? https://jwsoundgroup.net
  2. Haha, good to know I’m not alone.
  3. I actually haven’t invested in either system yet. Right now I’m at square one, powering my F4 with USB battery packs. An actual power distribution setup for both the recorder and wireless is not too far behind, though.
  4. Of course. Though I once accidentally annoyed a moderator on a different web forum, since every time I edited a comment, it would end up in their spam filter. Just don’t want a similar thing happening. Not the most urgent of concerns, I know.
  5. I have a tendency to make one or two edits to most things I post, usually to re-word something or to add onto the post. Recently, I edited this recent post in the Zoom F8n topic probably six times as I found more and more things to put in it, and part of me felt guilty thinking I might break something on the site as a result, or that you (Mr. Wexler) might have a flood of notifications about it. I figured I should make sure: Does repeatedly editing a post pose any harm to the site or be a nuisance for you or Laurence (or anyone else for that matter)?
  6. After trying to upload some product images for my F8n topic, it seems that the limit is somewhere between 3.2 MB and 3.6 MB. Probably 3.5 MB!

    Zoom F8n.

Now available for pre-order, for release in July 2018. Zoom published a product page. The headlining new features: Advanced Look-Ahead Hybrid Limiters, Zoom AutoMix, mic/line options for both XLR and TRS inputs. Image of the bottom of the unit. (I may have edited this post one too many times and I can’t upload the image.) Some official dealers in the United States (dealers with online pre-ordering in bold): Gotham Sound Location Sound Corp. 8. I thought so, just making sure Audioroot didn’t add anything proprietary!
  9. Thanks, I’ll use that! Edit: Just to be certain, I assume that Audioroot cup works with the Inspired Energy-branded batteries as well, would that be correct?
  10. Video/sound professional Curtis Judd just published a video about his sound bag, including his Inspired Energy battery setup. He notes (at 5:28) his only criticism of the IE battery system is that the battery isn’t able to lock into his cup adapter, in contrast to the NP-1 system. I was fully onboard with buying into the IE system until I heard this. (Though as I hesitate, I recognize the IE system is the inevitable successor to the aging NP-1 system, as consensus goes). To Inspired Energy battery users – and users of its Remote Audio Hi-Q and Audioroot eSMART variants – is there a better way to ensure a reliable connection with the battery than gaffer tape?
  11. I’ll keep it short – To those who have amassed a handy collection of adapters, how does Remote Audio’s Adapt-a-pak Pro Kit stack up? Would you use more than half of these adapter types regularly in, say, a year’s worth of work? To prevent any confusion, I’m not talking about the smaller Lite Kit.
  12. Gotham Sound has a very brief clip of audio from the CS-M1, starting at 03:07:
  13. Was idly browsing Aaton Digital’s website when I came across this survey they recently posted. No explanation, though curious how this comes soon after the Audio Ltd. acquisition by Sound Devices. Accompanying image from their social media:
  14. Current affairs publication Vox put together a cool video about audio engineering for sports television, featuring A1’s Brian Robertson, Andrew Stoakley, Joe Carpenter, and Phil Adler:

  16. From Cinela’s website, shown in order – LEO-20, LEO-22, LEO-25, LEO-20-MS, LEO-FUR: Cinela emphasizes that the new LEO windscreens are built with “unbreakable” material. They also note the LEO-20 is built for mics including the Schoeps CMC, the LEO-22 for Neumann KMA and KMD series, and the LEO-25 for Sennheiser MKH50. The LEO-20-MS is specifically made for a mid-side pairing of a Schoeps CMC and CCM8. Trew Audio appears to be the exclusive United States dealer for the windscreens (except the LEO-22), which are available right now for $169 USD. Their newsletter says the windscreen fur is included while supplies last.
  17. I’m also pretty curious myself.
  18. There’s a video of one of the Silent bags up on YouTube. Not very flattering:

  20. Can’t get over how cute this setup looks.
  21. Thanks for the link. Curious what would make this a better solution for some people over a laptop.
  22. Stumbled upon this during my perusing of Gotham Sound’s used section: a Mac Mini modded by Gotham with Hirose power input. Interested how this came about and what kind of workflow it fit into.
  23. Might also cut down on wind noise
  24. A frame from the scene in question: Letterman’s beard doesn’t reach his sternum, which is a good place for a lav. I’d have to guess they used a lav mounted in that area with wind protection fur. I wouldn’t rule out a skilled boom op, perhaps with a CS-3 or 416.
