  1. When you set your Headphones to "REC Source" what do you hear?
  2. Rachel, When you tried the computer hook up and the external drive, did you switch the setting in the Firewire:Connect (#2) menu? Check your CF slot for bent pins.
  3. Millar, Have you tried any smaller size SD cards or a different brand? It could be that the SD slot has a hardware issue that needs to be fixed.

  5. I just watched the first episode tonight. I noted that in the extensive credits, there was only a sound re-recording mixer listed. Did that change the further they got in to the doc? Judging by some of the mics and placements, they were micing the subjects themselves.
  6. Robert, The only way to measure this for sure would be to use an Ambient Controller, either ACC-101 or 501. The controller can do a compare of the timecode signal down to the 1/100th of a frame. The controller can also tune the internal 744T Ambient time code circuitry. As Charlie said, you are probably fine.
  7. Siddho, Please save a copy of your setup and send it to support@sounddevices.com. When you get the System Date/Time warning, is the System Date and Time correct? [Edited to add:] Also, look at the CF card on a computer system. It is likely this is just an issue with the file display in the 633. The actual file time/date stamps should be fine when viewed in Finder or My Computer.
  8. Cujo, Easiest way to figure out where the problem lies is to record a file with tone at -20. Keep a copy of the raw file and send a copy through the Davinci process (if you can do that with no video to sync it up to). Ship both files to edit. If they play them back and neither come up at -20, the problem is with their system import. If yours does, but the Davinci files does not, the problem lies in the transcode process. If both come up at -20dB -- uh oh.
  9. I don't think the CL-8 knobs were a standard accessory part, so they weren't listed on the website. They are available as a service part. Check with your reseller, they should be able to get the knobs with no problem.
  10. Pierre, Correct, looks like they have been out of stock for quite a while now. Confirmed that CL-8 Knobs will work on the 442.
  11. Well, at least you got one of the three: http://www.sounddevices.com/products/accessories/mechanicals/xl-k664
  12. ?? Sound Devices doesn't use Neutricons in any of their snakes, just the 10-pin Hirose. IIRC, PSC and Remote Audio Neutricon wiring is different.
  13. You need 3 External timecode boxes, either Ambient, Deneke or one of the new guys on the block. You'll have to use one of the cameras to jam all of the boxes, but once that is done, use one box on each camera and the third on the 552. If you are in LA, rent them from one of the usual suspects, Location Sound, Trew LA or Audio Department. Make sure to have the rental staff show you how to setup the boxes themselves. Hopefully you will be working with a knowledgeable camera department who know their way around the timecode section of the camera.
  14. Tom, If I remember correctly, the header items in the pdf are in a fixed order. If you need something more custom, use the CSV export and put it into an excel spreadsheet with the pre-filled header info.
  15. Doug, Did you ever get to the point where you entered your name and email? I just tried it and got the link even though it looked like the web page never completed. PM me your email and I will forward you the link.
  16. TSA is totally inconsistent. They opened one case that I checked on the way home from Phoenix yesterday. It happened to have one NP-1 sitting right on top of everything. Left their calling card and the NP-1.
  17. Hi Glen, Do you have any more details on the CMC-5 and 552 issues? I asked the engineers and no one at SD remembers any problem specific to the CMC-5 phantom and the 552. That said, there certainly could have been issues with individual units, but that was probably specific to a piece of hardware. Thanks, Matt
  18. If you add the CL-8, you can create a post-fade mix to the L/R tracks by mixing the 8 input signals using the faders on the CL-8. The 788T has a total of 8 inputs, if you are using 8 mics, you will not be able to send the mix from the Sonosax to the 788T.
  19. Only the L/R tracks will play back to the outputs. If you haven't recorded the L/R tracks, there will be nothing to output from the Main outs.

    633 Files

So did it turn out the file wasn't a problem, it just wouldn't play back in QT10?

Most likely a card error. Did you pull the card at the end of the day immediately after recording?
  23. I guess I am just not understanding the need to pad anything down. The only time I've ever had to use pads with a 5D was with the 788T, which has line level outs. A couple of Line - Mic pads, and I was ready to go. Mic level output to Mic level input, set the camera to the lowest level possible on manual.
  24. I know, I was involved in those tests. All of the testing was done using a mic level output since the 5D has a mic level input. Max Mic level output of a 633 (or 664, 552, etc) is -20dBu which matches up nicely with the -16 dBu max input level of the 5D: For best signal transfer from an external audio source, set the gain to manual control. Adjust it one click above full-off (from the far left). At that position the input clip level is -16 dBu, noise level (unweighted) is -80 dBFS, dynamic range is 80 dB, and the THD at -12 dBFS is 0.048% (unweighted).
