I don't need or want the features in the Zaxcom unit, I use the Lectrosonics unit, so when someone asked who'd had success with what gear, I answered the question. I don't 'get by' with it, I work very successfully with it, and don't wish for anything else.
Patrick, I missed your last message, thanks a lot! And thanks to you too Geordi, I haven't done the RAM yet, I put in an SSD as my primary drive this week, that has made things a lot faster, I'll do the RAM next time I have nothing else to do.
Forget NiMh 9V cells Jeff, they're not worth it.
iPower still seem to be the most reliable 9V rechargeable. Tenergy make a 6 bay charger for them, I don't own one, but somebody linked to it on Facebook the other day.
Nope. There is a 0.15V difference between the two. Is that something to worry about? Or within acceptable tolerances? If you don't know, as I'm guessing you don't, stick your hat up your arse and do something more useful with your time.
I have two 13" MBPs, one from 2010 and one from mid 2012, if I upgrade the new one to 16gb, can I put my 2x4gb DRAM modules in the old one? The specs are very similar, except for the voltage.
Even 221B doesn't actually exist, there's a museum there that had to petition the Post Office for the right to officially use that address for years. (Guess who did a piece on the surprisingly large number of folk who think Sherlock Holmes was real)
I've never seen the point in using cheap recorders with cheap mics to record atmos or whatever you want to call it, it seems to be the wrong way to achieve a simple aim, especially if you already own better kit.
As for the recording method, it really depends what resources you have in post. A Sound Devices Mix Pre D will sound great, not cost much and interface with the camera fine. Separate recording brings extra time and cost, sometimes with no benefits.
