Rado, what battery are you using? Where do you have BNCs in your QRXs setup? I'd prefer that kind of connectors too. Thanks for all the calculations, anyway. Very useful. Vale.

The better thing should have been if the RX12 had a Zaxnet antenna/module into it, so that it could act as standalone for all the Zaxnet operations and it should have been convenient for all that users (me included) that don't have a Nomad recorder, without the need of an external device, like the IFB200 or the QRX+Ifb. But I'm just speculating, I'm at the window to see how it will develop. v.

Anyway, using the IFB200 in combination with your DEVA, you're still able to remote TX gain using the DEVA Knobs, is it right? I'm planning to built a similar setup (using my Fusion) and I'd like to ask you if you're finding a little unpractical to deal with another toy (the IFB200) just for Zaxnet functions (beside the fact you can change only one TX at the time, I'm also thinking to simple things, like other cable messing around, an other device to place somewhere, etc), especially for situation when you're switching often from cart to bag mode. Thanks, v.

modified Zaxcom TRX742 cone for secure mounting
vale replied to Matthias Richter's topic in Equipment
Thanks Jack, it was only for curiosity if it was provided to other folks. Anyway, I'd say that Zaxcom could add it to the kit by default, IMHO... it seems a must-to-have thing, for the 742, in the little time I played with it. Thanks again and have a good new year! Vale. -
modified Zaxcom TRX742 cone for secure mounting
vale replied to Matthias Richter's topic in Equipment
Rescuing this topic just because I've just received my first TRX742. I'd like to ask Matthias (or anybody else using this product) if that rubber washer in between the 742 XLR connector was in the package or if you add by yourself. I find that XLR connector on the 742 don't match perfectly my Cinela XLR, so when swinging fast it produce a little but audible noise... I hope I explained it well... thanks, Vale. -
In fact, I was referring to the Dynamics settings for what concerns the expansion part. Anyway, I can assure you that both of the actors in the described scene had a Sanken Cos11 mounted in the button-hole of their shirt, at almost the identical distance from mouth. Both actors faced the same direction, because they were side by side talking with a couple of girls in front of them. Anyway, later I will try to post a sample. Anyhow, it's not the first time I had this feeling. Valentino.

Sure Glenn, concerning audio quality Zaxcom was absolutely the winner, but I found more difficult (in comparison to Sennheiser) to get the lines from the background in that particular case. I know that Dynamic menu can give more compression/expansion if properly set, maybe it could be useful to play with that settings in situation when the background is very high. It needs some tests, anyway... Anyway, as soon as I have the time I will post a sample of the scene I described I was involved in. In the meanwhile, happy Christmas everybody! Valentino.

Some days ago, I shot a couple of long scenes in a very crowded shopping center where the background was very loud. I had 3 Zaxcom LANC transmitters and, at the last minute, I had to add an other mic and I used a backup Sennheiser G3. All had Sanken Cos11 as mic. Yesterday, I listened at the files in ProTools and noticed that the Sennheiser had a better separation between actor voice and background noise. I compared it (it was mounted on a man) with an other male actor standing beside him, but having Zaxcom Tx, with the mic in the same position and at the almost identical level of voice and the Zaxcom had the background noise at a noticeable higher level. Someone using different brands of wireless experienced something similar (even comparing other brands than mine)? Coul it be a more aggressive setting of the Sennheiser expander? Just curious. Vale.

Curious if it will be the only recorder or a set of recorders to replace all the Deva and Fusion options.

Rado I've sent you a pm. Vale.

I'm in the same situation at the moment. Have to buy a new long boom (I have a short one) and interested in these two Ambient models. Anyone have experiences with the QX 5130 over the QP4140? Thanks, v.

So, if I understand correctly, the only way to use the RX12 with a not-Nomad recorder is to buy a QRX+Ifb Option... It sounds a little foolish (forgive me the word) to me that in order to use a full 12 channel receiver I need an other 2 channel ENG receiver.. Is there a plan for an external Zaxnet device to add, in order to use full remote scan and control functionality to any recorder?
-
If I understood correctly it is $2995 for the RX12 and $1750 for each QRX module.
-
Sorry Jeff, I was just kidding Maybe my english didn't serve me well this time. Just trying to say that we haven't the time to be excited with an upcoming piece of gear that an other one is coming out so soon. I'm very happy with that, since I'm a Zaxcom user, and I'll be in both discussions of course.
-
Beside of the Nomad and QRX with IFB, could the RX12 work with an IFB100/200 as Zaxnet master? I have a Fusion, so trying to think at the best configuration.
-
no time to discuss about the new RX12 that we're just moving on the new Deva...
-
Actually, I don't want to go with it as a pioneer on my next job... I will start it very soon, I was just thinking to the next one. I am at the point I need other 2-4 wireless channel and so I have to choose between buying 1-2 more QRXs or move my entire wireless system to this new RX12 (since I could be interested in its features for the little I know).
-
I can confirm the feature has been recently recovered. There was a problem with the newer TRX firmwares that Howy solved with the last 898B version. I did some tests and on my Fusion it works as aspected now. As for the drift issue, I had it sometimes even when the feature worked before of the new firmware, but I'm not remembering which was the cause (though it was explained somewhere here or in the Zaxcom forum).
-
I am in the same situation, having to add more wireless to my kit, just waiting for an official features chart and release date, since it seems the way I will go.
-
I could imagine it is because of the FP8 being less deep than the Nomad, so it is convenient to let it be over all...
-
It really should be a really great add to the Deva/Fusion recorder.
-
Yes, so actually I guess I was at the beginning of the solution, since I wrote many mails with Howy in the last days and he ran into the problem and sent me back some firmware to test before the final release of this last one. I'm very happy he was able to find a solution, he's really great! I have 2s pre-roll so maybe too short to notice the issue John is pointing out.
-
Thanks Jeff and Matthias. The right side of the Fusion was always a great confusion of cables with the db25 connector... Now it looks cleaner and easier to menage with. I still have just to cut my xlr connectors to a low profile and let the main headphones connector go through the shelf too... Next steps

Have tho opportunity to see a prototype of the RX12 and it look a very beautiful device. IMHO, the only bad things are: 1) it is a little larger than a Deva/Fusion/Nomad recorder, just a few cm, but it should have been more compact to have a setup with matched dimensions; 2) it doesn't have Zaxnet antenna. So, if you have a Deva/Fusion recorder (like me) you have to buy a zaxnet provided device to send remote controls, etc (IFB200?); 3) it should have been better if output connectors were on the left side, considering that generally AES inputs are on the left side of the recorders. That said, I'm looking forward for it to be available. v.

Hi again, I’m posting some pictures to show you how my project went on in this last year and more. Cart is always in progress, a never-ending work, but now I'm at the point I’m quite glad on working with. I'm sorry for the pictures quality, but something goes bad with the conversion. As you can see in the picture of the back, Power went to the cart and floats on a switching power supply (as the one our great host Jeff have and many times has explained), then a single cable brings DC to the upper case where I have a Remote Audio HotBox v2 that gives power to: Fusion 12, Mix12, Micplexer, Sennheiser IFB Tx and a homemade DC Distro i built (that is connected to Blackmagic monitors, all the cart led strips, the 2.4GHz 1 Watt amplifier and a couple of usb ports located inside the cart - one for a little light I use for the script pages, the other one is for a X-Mini I have inside the cart). My main patchbay has 2 Boom XLR3 Mic inputs, 1 Stereo XLR5 Mic Input, 2 BNC Video Inputs and a hole for all the bluefin antennas/ifb/ampli cables wrapped together. Down at the left I have 1 XLR Line Output and down at right 2 XLR4 DC Power Inputs (you can see them in the larger picture). I customized the DB25 Fusion output connector to have 5 fixed outputs (cables go down tied through the shelf to their destination, to have clear space on the shelf): Sennheiser IFB transmitter, Zaxcom IFB transmitter, Output XLR on the rear patchbay, optional headphones minijack - you can see it just under the shelf, at the right - and X-Mini speaker. I have integrated my script “flag” and umbrella support, too, using the already existing holes/screws of the abs rack case. Again, I built up a little switch that let me choose what I want to send to the X-Mini, if my Fusion output audio or an external source - by a stereo minijack you could see under the shelf, at left. So, that's it for the moment. I'll try to keep the post updated once on a while, with the changes I'll make. Vale.
