  1. Hey Thanks alot everyone - info like this is invaluable. Should be fine with the eyesight im used to resoldering 6 pin mini lemo's for my microns although its way too late to start tonight. Thanks again
  2. Hi Does anyone know how to take apart a screw lock 10 pin hirose plug - the type used on sound devices and SQN mixers. I have one i removed from a lead which i need to re-connect/solder and i cant open up the connector. I am wary of using brute force unless i know i am going in the right direction. Thanks for any help
  3. In the past 2 months i've recorded a feature and recorded for additional photography on a feature both with a torn ligament in my left foot. The damage actually came from running 5 miles in order to recover from a 20hr day two days prior. I managed to get through it ok (still have remenants of the pain) but stress levels were definitely increased because of the injury. I used vet wrap to support my foot and used ice baths (in the evening)+ cooling gel for swellings plus deep heat and some iboprufen rub for the pain/ache. I did (before the injury) run at least 12 miles per week and used to do a reasonable amount of biometric exercise - crunches, the plank, sit ups, diamond press ups, various stretches etc every week. I do think exercise is invaluable for both the recordist and definitely the boom op but i am wary of weights in the gym and over stressing joints in very specific areas. I have been lucky enough to work with a few very high level martial artist (now stunt men) and also had some good advice from my family many of whom are pro rugby players and my sister is an olympic rowing coach. They have all said 2 things that have stayed with me:- 1 is that booming and booming with the bag places the biggest strain on the core so core exercises and posture (straight back) exercises are critically important to reduce stress on your back, your arms and therefore your brain. 2- The happy face sad face principle - which is any exercise or exertion you do in one direction you should do the same amount or at least try in the other direction. So being pulled forward all the time needs to be counteracted with exercises like 'supermans' which is basically pulling yourself back. A good friend of mine who is/was also a sound man has recently had to retire due to massive back and leg problems and he's younger than me. So i think you can never underestimate this issue, i'd rather have an injury i can fix than a condition which i have to manage.
  4. i use Micron - 700 and explorer 256 and older 500 series VHF for hop and ifb. i have used audio 2020 2040, Zaxcom and Sennheiser ew - i dont regard the sennheiser as good enough quality for talent but very good for ifb and camera hop. I found the audio ltd mics a bit of a pain to operate even though i think the sound quality is very good especially with the sanken cos 11. I have found the microns to have the best headroom and very good sound quality esp' with dpa 4060 mic's which is what i use ( I keep getting blown away by the off mic pick up with this setup). The Zaxcom sounded good to me but not as good the Micron or the Audio 2040.
  5. I would buy the kmr81 and keep the 416 as others have said. Ive just finished two features where i used the kmr81 all the time and i love it, it goes very well with my dpa 4060's and the sanken cub 1 and the sound is less sterile than my schoeps (not that its really sterile sounding but the kmr81 is just 'warmer'). Also i do find it really good in interiors despite being a shotgun (unlike the 416) I did experience the random RF problems in 1 exterior but just kept the mic position stationary luckily it was for a shouting action scene where the boom op didn't have to swing. That is the reason to keep the 416 also humidity and rain can cause problems. I think the sound of the kmr is moddled on the km84/km85 sound, pity they didnt keep the transformers and the fet circuit cos the km85 makes the kmr sound a bit thin. Also one last note, 'nice sounding' mic to me means less ear fatigue which ends up being important after the stupid hours ive ended up doing recently.
  6. Hey everyone (Mr) Lisala Dolo here. NFTS docu corporate/commercial and increasingly features mixer/recordist - west london and the south coast. Started doing post tracklay and sfx but got cabin fever, also music producer but thats not for this forum.
  7. Hi Just to confirm what every one else said - I did a corporate just over 2 months ago using 2 F3's (i think they were the first in the country/prototypes). Line level at -20 was fine. They were using nanoflash over SDI to record and consequently i monitored off of the nanoflash drive which sounded alot better than the F3's headphone output. The DIT played some of the files to the clients and they loved it - job done.
  8. Hi im new here so thanks to everyone for all the invaluable info. Does anyone know where to purchase mic clips for the Panamic suspensions ? I need the clips for a KMR81 and MKH416, a couple of them have broken recently and i have tried Canford but they don't make the suspensions anymore since they took over Panamic from Colin Charles. The clips are like the older Rycote clips but with only two suspension points as opposed the the four on the rycote. These suspensions are my favourite for shotguns and i would like to keep them alive for as long a possible. (Im in the UK) Thanks
