  1. Very true Senator! There are plenty of guys out there that are not necessarily "excellent" at what they do, nonetheless they work all the time because they are likeable and easy to work with. Of course I'm not sure that applies to any of us sound guys! Tom
  2. Really! ALL the Radio Shacks (if they are corporate owned) that I have EVER been to carry the small parts. Although some of the mall stores I've been to carry a more limited selection. Perhaps it's just this area of the country. Tom
  3. Mike, I believe that is to charge the keyboard only. I could be wrong however. I've never tried it like that before. Also, this is the USB adapter cable that I use. It is available in a 6", 1 ft, 2 ft, and 3 ft version. In most cases the 1 footer is just right. I simply find a place to "tie wrap" it on to my bag.near the 633/664 USB port. http://www.adorama.com/C2G28066.html Tom
  4. Ah! Please make sure you post pictures of your rig when it's completed. I'd like to see your ideas and design. I will warn you, I used a plexiglass "cutting board" that I purchased from Bed Bath and Beyond for the base to mount everything. I'm not sure that was such a good idea. It's already developing some hairline cracks. I had tested a piece with a hammer on concrete, and it seemed like it was going to be okay. And it still might. We'll see. Tom
  5. Thanks. I know it doesn't look THAT impressive, but between finding all the parts, soldering, and getting it all to "line up" properly, it took a good three days of my life (maybe more). I was thinking of building a 3 space (3 SRb's) for my 664, but I'm not sure I want to put in that much work again. Tom
  6. So what exactly is this CL500 cable? I assume it must have a balancing transformer in the XLR connector. Is that the case? Tom
  7. Yes. I use a NP1 cup from Remote Audio. The power "input" is the coxial connector on the bottom of the metal project box. The Hirose output to power the 633 is "unswitched". All the other outputs are "switched" . The toggle switch is the locking type that requires that you lift "up" on in before you can move it, so there is little chance you could accidently bump it on or off. It's also partially recessed. The hardest part was making the DB25 connectors line up with the SRb's, but I needed this to work, because I also own an OctoPack and QuadPack wanted a quick way to move the receivers from one rig to another. Tom
  8. Well... It certainly is not as nice as some of the other "rigs" here, but I just finished building a SRb holder / power distro for my 633. Probably will need to make a few modifications, but so far not bad. Tom
  9. Senator! Not true at all! Now it IS true that I was "hoping" that I might be able to use the Sennheiser IEM's, however if I had received strong feedback, from multiple members here, encouraging me to NOT move this direction, I would absolutely consider something else. While it is unlikely that we will ever have unanimous agreement on any subject here, discussing it will usually bring out the positives and the negatives. There are many here that I have a great deal of respect for... including you. I appreciate the thoughts and comments they provide, and I thank you that I have your permission. Thanks, Tom
  10. It is local supplier in Atlanta that I've been dealing with for years. They mainly sell to live sound and install companies. In the past (and still occasionally) I did some PA installs. As a result, they sell to me at supposably "dealer" cost. Tom
  11. Axel, Thanks for your input. I was looking into the EK 1039 but, from what I can tell, the frequencies are either IN the forbidden 700mhz range, or the 600mhz range that will likely also be prohibited here in the USA in the next 5-8 years. Also, I'm currently pretty well invested in the "G" band which Sennheiser does not support in the "tourguide" series. Tom
  12. Constantin, That's very interesting. I didn't think of that. Thanks, Tom
  13. The Sennheiser IEM DOES have more flexibility, especially considering the fact that I already am using the Sennheiser SK100 transmitters and EK100 receivers for camera hops and timecode transmission,. Additionally I occasionally do live sound where the IEM's could serve double duty as actual IEM's. Perhaps, if it was ONLY for use as IFB, I'd feel differently. With that in mind, I think I'll likely start out with the ew 300-2 IEM G3 bundle which includes a half rack stereo transmitter and 2 of the EK 300 IEM receivers. I don't really need the rack mount transmitter for location sound, but I'll probably use it eventually, and the "discount" by buying it as a package is quite significant. Thanks guys for all your comments. I mainly wanted to make sure I was not making a choice I would regret. While there is no guarantee that I won't have regret, it is sounding rather unlikely. If anyone here can give good reason why I and the Sennheiser IEM's should not be joined together, speak now, or forever hold our piece! Tom
  14. Glenn, I must say, if cost were of no concern, I would defiantly go with the ERX2TCD. Although I recently purchased a 633, and a year ago 2 664's, I am very impressed with the Zaxcom products. Truly you folks are undoubtably the most innovative and high tech, offering features and flexibility, and far surpassing anyone else that I am aware of. Your support, that I read of here, and the speed at which you introduce firmware updates is amazing. I suspect, in time, I will change over to ALL Zaxcom products. Tom
  15. In my opinion, this is the USB cable that SHOULD be included with the 633 and the 664. http://www.adorama.com/C2G28066.html It is available in a 6", 1 ft, 2 ft, and 3 ft version. In most cases the 1 footer is just right. I simply find a place to "tie wrap" it on to my bag.near the 633/664 USB port. Tom
  16. IFB - ComTek vs Lectrosonics vs Zaxcom vs Sennheiser G3 IEM I'm considering moving from an older Lectrosonics IFB system to using instead Sennheiser EK 300 G3 IEM recievers. Here are my reasons: 1. I already own a number of SK 100 transmitters that I use for camera hops, etc. (I found that the EK 300 G3 is fully compatible IF you turn off the the pilot tone) 2. Why have a separate transmitter for IFB and camera hops? In "most" cases (for me) it will be the same feed. 3. The Lectro system I'm using is in the 700mhz band 4. The Lectro transmitter I have is the T1, which is big and draws too much current for bag use 5. The EK 300 uses AA batteies as opposed to 9 volts 6. I've been quoted $375 for the EK 300 receivers. In my mind these seem to be good reasons to go with the Sennheiser, however I'm sure I'm probably overlooking something. What am I missing? The only thing that crosses my mind are the Zaxcom units that also receive timecode, although I'm not sure I'm willing to spend that sort of money. I'd appreciate some arguments as to why I might NOT want to use the Sennheiser Thanks, Tom
  17. Can someone direct me to some comparison sound files using the Super CMIT? Thanks, Tom
  18. So I tried the Rii RT-MWK01 keyboard connected to the 633 while I powered the 633 on and off 30 times. I tried entering track names, selecting record tracks, recording, navigating with the Rii, turning the keyboard on and off, and I did not experience any lock ups. By the way, this same keyboard also works well with my 664. Tom
  19. I haven't used it extensively, however I've had very good success with the Rii RT-MWK01+ mini wireless keyboard. Tom
  20. I have a couple ADK A-51S LE type III large diaphragm condenser microphones that I've used for quite a few years for voice overs. They are very reasonably priced and sound great. I'm not sure how they differ from the "newer" version, but I seem to recall mine were actually more costly (although not a lot). I had a chance to listen to the ADK on vocals, guitar, and as a drum overhead at a local studio. We also compared it to the $1200 Neumann at the time (can't remember the model, possibly the TLM103) and felt it was every bit as good. Tom
  21. Michael, I think you're going like it. I actually like my 633 better than my 664. It will be REALLY interesting to see what future firmware updates offer. Tom
  22. I do wish we could do the same here. Tom
  23. Thanks guys. It's always nice to know BEFORE the shoot if it's going to work. Tom
