  1. Hi, when using a zaxcom 742 plug on Tx with my CMC6/Mk41 I get no RF interference, only clean beautiful audio. When I attach a cut1 or knuckle accessory I start to get RF interference...? My cut1, knuckle and mk41 capsule are probably 15 yrs old but work fine in every other respect. Anyone know if the current version of accessories offer improved RF protection? Thanks, Chris.
  2. Hi all, anymore intel re DPA bringing out a low DC slim for zax Trx's? If not what's the general feeling re low or high sensitivity version for zax trx use? (I use mostly 4063's but want to add a few slims to the kit). Thanks, Chris.
  3. Hi Howey, can you confirm, is the functionality of the IFB on a QRX supposed to be exactly the same as with the dedicated IFB100/200's? (apart from RF output). As noted above, I have no menu option to select individual units for sleep/wake mode. Also can you confirm, when in sleep mode do the Tx's automatically stop recording (if they were in rec mode prior). Thanks, Chris.
  4. TRX's running 9.34, QRX on 3.73, QIFB on 1.58
  5. So does the IFB side of the QRX's not offer the same functionality as an IFB100 / 200? Pretty sure I'm running latest firmware as updated everything to latest a few months ago, will check tonight. Everything else is fine, remote gain from Mix 12, remote freq change on separate Tx's via QRX's, remote roll either by slave from fusion or from QRX/IFB, my only sleep/wake control is via QRX/IFB menu and is group based, no separate unit ID option that I can find...
  6. I might be missing something but from my QRX IFB there is no control option to select separate Tx's for sleep mode, it's all done via group mode, as with the remote roll etc so it controls all Tx's at once. I do remember maybe seeing a different mode ages ago on an IFB100..? Either way it was far to cumbersome time wise to use use in practice. I think a separate TRX control unit with hardware buttons to control separate Tx's would be a great accessory, say to match the RX12 it would be a small control surface with buttons for rec/stop/play/sleep/wake etc for each Tx. Kind of mixing a bit of old school manual tech with the new school zax high tech. All has to work within one group mode of course.
  7. + 1, individual sleep would be amazing....
  8. In regards to needing a small intimate crew I would argue that your crew will appear smaller with a dedicated sound mixer. What I mean is the kind of set up you are proposing will likely be very cumbersome and clumsy for a one person operation, particularly so if you are new to the gear and location shooting in general. You will end up tripping over yourself, forgetting to roll various recorders or mix the right mics in the heat of the moment and doco shoots don't generally offer second chances. With a dedicated (and experienced) sound mixer as a second crew member you will be able to work much more quietly and quickly while also having a much better hit rate on getting good usable footage. The only reason I wouldn't have a 2 person crew is either financial (but as someone here has pointed out, all that gear you need to hire or buy may well cover the cost of a sound mixer and gear) or if it is physically impossible to have a 2 person crew, like if you're doing an autobiographical doco shoot on yourself paddling a canoe across the atlantic ocean.
  9. just been catching up on this thread, I have one note that may be of of interest re control panels having physical output pot controls for such things as IFB, VOG, etc. I run with a Fusion / Mix 12 set up on my cart, a system I am very happy with, the mix 12 has 4 output pots so you can quickly physically control the output levels, great. Not so in practice, they are digital pots and have a very different linear value to standard analogue pots, most of the level variation is in the last quarter turn of the pot and worse than that when you pot them down the system noise level stays the same, just the program level varies. This means at low to mid levels your sig to noise ratio is terrible. I found it unacceptable and don't use the pots at all, I did get the very good remote audio 6 channel ANALOGUE output accessory for my Fusion and that fixed everything. I hope this is sorted on the newer zax panels! C.

on paper and by size and price this looks very very good as a cheap back / crash recorder, if it proves reliable that is. Not being able to mix easily is no biggy as it could pair up with a 552 etc and just use it as an iso rec. And if all else fails iso tracks only with a crappy mono mix for coms feeds etc will still keep the shoot day rolling along fine until your main gear is sorted. I wonder if the scene increment option can be either numeric or alphanumeric, can't see it mentioned in the manual. Very good routing options on where the slate mic and tone goes too. Leakage of spurious RF would be bad too, hope they thought about that also.
  11. I had this exact prob couple days ago, worse though as the amira didn't even pick up the tc from the erx, it came up with the same error as above. I then jammed TC direct from my Fusion and that worked straight away. Def seems to be an erx isssue. I tried lots of different voltage settings also. That said I know my erx's aren't running the latest firmware. C.
  12. mod by disconnecting the whip and attaching a second SNA600! - similar looking rig to TJ (which I copied) but mine a bit more compact as the BNC/main part of the SNA sits inside the front pouch. I never tried this for ages as always got hung up on thinking the antennas needed to be higher up, clear of the bag like on the harness or some sort of rig. Not needed at all, they work very well at bag level.
  13. I'm running a bag rig with 2 x QRX100 and a mic plexer fed by one SNA600 and one whip. Way better range even with one SNA, even when working in dual mode. On whips alone I wouldn't really use dual mode as range was to unreliable, I will mod to two SNA's soon but even if only one it makes a big difference. C.
  14. I have the mix 12 and the 12 faders is great at times but 8 is heaps as you have all the pots on the fusion (and nomad I presume) which you can select for any input also. When I use all 12 channels of my mix 12 there's normally 2 to 3 comms circuits and a playback one, all those things can run off the rec machine pots or digi faders. More was always better but these days I'm think less is more and am about to reconfigure my kit and build a new cart that will be way more portable and flexible than my current system and still have the same fire power. do love the fusion & mix 12 though but they pretty chunky by todays standards.
  15. I had issues on my last epic job with TC jam, couldn't get it to see ext TC, worked out that it needed a much higher level signal, was using a zaxcom ERX and had to increase the TC output level much more than any other camera I've worked with. Once that was sorted it was ok.
  16. 1 - make sure all the borrowed gear you have comes back in better order than when you got it. 2 - have a good time 3 - don't stand under the edge of an easy up in heavy rain unless you have shampoo in your hair.
  17. Hi Larry, BNC pulled loose on one occasion, board broke on another. Both times they were on the cart mast and someone repo'd it and came into contact with a wall or similar so no surprise they broke. Haven't actually broken one while in bag use but don't use them all the time. I run a Lectro SR5 camera link with Tx's on the shoulders of my harness so keep the dipole Rx antennas just above bag level and in crowded / tight locations they are not ideal. Regards, C.
  18. yep understand this too, but they are just an example of a small antenna for lower frequencies, I am sure there is a better antenna rig for bags that is yet to be made, maybe it will be a dipole rig but I'd prefer directional if possible.
  19. Thanks for your reply Larry, regarding the lovely lectro dipole, I have broken a few of them over the years, totally due to user error so not a design fault, but when they are up on an antenna mast or poking out the side of a bag rig things sometimes don't go to plan and they get knocked. Mine have all broken at the BNC end of the main fiberglass(?) arm. My LPDA ones seem to survive the knocks much more. They are particularly easy to knock if they're in my bag rig and I need to be mobile. Going by your 2 out 3 description above could you go smaller and loose some gain or have them cover much tighter freq ranges, they could be 1 or 2 block specific for example? I understand the wavelength thing but then there are things like those small shark fin type antennas the are made for car radios and they operate at a much lower freq etc. Whatever it is I know it won't have the ideal spec but I think a directional antenna system designed specifically for bag use would be very popular if it were at all possible to make, sounds like it's not though! Regards, Chris.
  20. While we're on the topic, is there any way to make a miniature LPDA type antenna by scaling everything down..? I know this would reduce it's effectiveness and is probably an uneducated crazy idea but just putting it out there. There is definitely an antenna market for bag rigs that require more than whips and aren't as fragile as the Lectro Dipoles (which are great antennas but I'd prefer something with more directionality). C.
  21. thinking of getting one of these for bag rigs, still pretty big but very portable. also, any user experience out there with the "RF Venue Spotlight" antenna, again a reasonably large unit (19" round) but it looks like it could be a great way to get around interference onset or in studio applications etc, could be hidden on set or on wall out of shot. C.
  22. Ha Sammy, just realised it's you! - you know all about my mix12 drama, did you mod yours in the end too?
  23. I retro fitted my mix12 with P&G faders as they were originally, a world of difference and it now operates like a pro panel should. I had a few words to Zax over this issue and they were quite understanding and helped me out a bit but they still currently sell the mix12 with the bourne faders which I think is a huge mistake, better to raise the price a bit and put P&G's back in my opinion. C.
  24. Yes thought that might be the case re float charging L-ion batts and now I know for sure! I have made up 2 pelican case L-ion batts which give me a lot more power for a lot less weight than the same sized SLA's, I'll just use a smaller SLA on my cart and continue my current float set up when plugged into mains supply and keep the L-ions for the batt only applications for now. Thanks, C.
