Sound Devices 664 not powering up from external DC
soundtrane replied to Sebastian Kleinloh's topic in Equipment
dont think you can fix it. you have to send it in. will most probably require change of a couple of ICs. as per my experience with many 664s i have serviced over the last few years... -

Lectrosonics Venue 1 antenna power switch mod?
soundtrane replied to Derek H's topic in Do It Yourself
it is not so difficult to remove the main board from the Venue chassis. and put it back. as far as an illuminated switch is concerned, i would not recommend it. -
another great one gone... RIP...

also consider DMS. i set up an MKH8040 matched pair with an MKH30 last year. initial test recordings resolved into surround using the Schoeps plugin sounded fantastic.

<This glue comes off with a sharp flat driver. > Dangerous... Instead - dab some IsoPropyl Alcohol on it. Wait 5 seconds, it will come off with no effort, using a pair of tweezers. Recommended method from SD service dept. Been doing repairs on SD stuff last three years... Use a glue gun on the new Board connector...

I usually maintain my lavs very meticulously and therefore seldom have a heavy gunk build up. If this ever happens, i use a little bit of Goo-Gone first and wipe down and later after some time, use a tiny bit of olive oil, leave on for an hour or so and then wipe down...

NoiseAssist, $600 Plugin for the Sound Devices 8 Series
soundtrane replied to IronFilm's topic in Equipment
Not necessarily - it is up to the user - you can turn it off and it will retain the last noise signature it grabbed. -
so sorry to hear this... rip...

One great recording of jazz done on Nagras is the "Jazz at the Pawnshop" - considered one of the finest audiophile analogue recordings.

OH no.... What a wonderful man he was! RIP....

the microdot cannot be repaired because some glue is used during the assembly of the connector. only a new one can be installed after cutting off the old connector...

Has your Countryman B6 cable ever shed it's cable jacket?
soundtrane replied to Dan Brockett's topic in Equipment
From what i have heard - pre-polarised electret capsules wilt with time - especially HF response and sensitivity - it is the nature of the beast, and exacerbated by sweat dust etc. i tend to treat lavs like consumables, once i hear the 'difference', i retire the unit. -
As others have suggested, there really is not much of any advantage using star quad in a bag... my 2 cents on this...
-
from my experience - it is most probably a LCD issue that can be solved by replacing it. to the mothership it must go...
