  1. How easy is it to switch a tx from the new to the old modulation?
  2. why not just a cheap condenser cardioid like an octava? $100 or so. should easily be able to pick up voices in a small room. it might not sound the best, but it should at the very least be audible.
  3. Ethan, I asked this very question not too long ago. And I did not find anything. If you really are looking for a solution I would get the rf explorer.
  4. A regular ERX does not output Timecode. the TCD model is capable of this. Zaxcom no longer makes the non-TCD models Both versions work with any zaxnet transmitter as Zack points out.
  5. sorry, I don't mean to be a troll, but have you tried a google search? you would find this thread pretty quickly:
  6. Bad website. they operate on 2.4Ghz range
  7. Looks like you've done a lot of great work designing this bag Dave. I for one picked up a Maxx for it's size and this bag almost looks like it might equal the one that I use for a Nomad. I can fit a Maxx in a PS607 and then into a 1550 case...great for dragging around NYC. Though I will take a hard look at it when I can get my hands on one, I would encourage you to continue the line with a bag for larger mixers and maybe even a smaller scaled down one too!
  8. Chris, It looks like you have some inline couplers for your power? are these Hirose 4 pins? I've never seen a female barrel type and would interested in a link or supplier if you have one.
  9. whaaa? your saying you hear a difference running AES vs analog into your nomad?
  10. I use a separate cable at the zeppelin made from 2 lav cables into an XLR5. Yes, it puts another connector inline, but that is not a problem for me. This has pretty much eliminated handling noise.
  11. I went thru two of them in a short period of time and therefor abandoned the idea of using them in the field. Too bad, they are quite useful. I've always been interested in other versions of the same thing, so I wonder if there are some that are more sturdy.
  12. Vin, what's the thing holding up the keyboard?
  13. I see a lot of people do this. you can use it in combination with something like the QAT-ECO that ambient makes with some foot foam to pad and a bongo tie. reasons not to mount it right on the mic: difficult to get to when in a zeppelin...also, will inevitably add weight to the mic itself and will mess up the momentum of the mic when swinging it around. I'm not the biggest fan of mounting it to the pole at the mic end, but it is nice when needing to work quickly...
  14. This. As long as your editor knows what they're doing, then this process should be very automatic these days. That said, do what you want. "Rules" are meant to be broken.
  15. The usual suspects (pro sound, Gotham, etc) can make the cable you need if you are not up to making it yourself. As can our resident wiring expert Eric Toline. I personally don't see the advantage of sending AES to a camera unless it is via a wireless unit: You would potentially have problems sending AES over a standard breakaway cable, and then only some cameras can accept AES anyways...
  16. In the sound works video Skip Lievsay mentions using contact mics to record a lot of the foley for the film. Though I'm curious what the lav mics were used for.
  17. When I had that problem, I think I discovered a fray in the internal cable of the boom pole was the culprit.
  18. If you need a machine to be a backup with little reconfiguring - then buying the same machine (a nomad 12 or 10) is prob the best way to go. If you haven't spent any time with the Lite software, I recommend you do before buying - it's not the same as the 10 or 12 last time I played with it. The bonus of the Maxx really is the size (and 192 if you are interested in that nor the difference in zaxnet/tx options) - but if you are used to carrying a full backup maybe this isn't an issue for you. I can get a basic ENG Maxx package into a 1510 case, carrying mics in a backpack. This alone was a reason to go with a Maxx and not a second Nomad. Not that I was really looking for a backup solution as opposed to just the most powerful compact rig that is NYC friendly.
  19. Matthias, not that it should matter, but how old are your CMITs? I have found an EMC to EMC jumper helped me with an older CS3e that was picking up RF from a 992. all my other shotgun mics seem to be ok.
  20. If I did a lot of reality work where I had to quickly pan L to R for camera feeds I would simply go with a 664. I for one am disappointed that the PFL buttons on the expander are the same as on the Nomad...not that I expected differently I guess, but the problem is the same - that one really has to look down at the unit to get to the PFL. Major hassle IMO. The beauty of the 442, 552 and 644 for that matter is that you can largely "mix blind" - things like the PFL and pan are easy to adjust and get to without really looking. So, for that matter, are the trim pots...
