  1. anything going on monday night? most of the dudes i'm with will be attending the media motion ball so my schedule is open.
  2. yeah mirror cards i'm not as concerned about, i've used all sorts of cards in my mirror slot. but i stick to transcend 133x 32gb in my primary.
  3. hmm.. looks like i'm going to be doing some experimenting. this guy has 3 wires + shield.
  4. Hi Bud, I just grabbed a surveillance mic kit off amazon and was going to go the same route as you. do you remember your wiring scheme for that push to talk to ta5? thanks!
  5. i experimented a long while back with a gopro and running a sennheiser g2 feed to it, way back when i had a 552 and g2's. and no beard either. #babyface
  6. i'm a big fan of sitka gear. they are primarily a hunt clothing manufacturer. i haven't ponied up to buy any yet but the stormfront pants and jacket have been on my wish list for quite a while now, but at $1200 a set, its a tough pill to swallow. They are amazing shells and are a soft/quiet material. However, when you've worked in 33 degrees and pouring rain, you'd almost pay any amount to be comfortable...
  7. Simon Paine just got a fat bike, so he's well prepared for the wintry tundra of canadia! unfortunately for myself, 99% of my jobs are outside of 20 miles away with not very bike friendly routes. If I were in a larger city, I'd be all about figuring out a way to bicycle transpo to work! and maybe next NAB, we need should all head out to bootleg canyon for a day of riding mountain bikes!
  8. an updated zaxcom control surface to interface with nomad. 10 faders, rec start/stop, slate/com buttons and pfl. i do realize with deva 32 coming out, that there will probably be an updated control board and it will primarily target that machine. but there are a looooot of nomads in the wild and a lot of users that would still purchase an updated control surface. the nomad makes a fine cart based recorder and the mix 8 is a great addition, but i know some users don't see it being quite enough to justify its purchase and the mix 12 is just a bit too much for smaller cart based setups.
  9. wow… thats an odd thing for someone to get replaced for. usually i find talent/crew to be pretty wow'd by it and fairly amused. but i'm sure theres a threshold of too much. i try not to keep my volume too loud and if its going to take a lot of fiddling then i'll just go for the transmitter. but usually when we break for a bit or talent wants to be "off" i'll zap them. I've also had talent that already had the app and would sleep and wake themselves as needed, although I wasn't a huge fan of this. I guess some people can just get rubbed the wrong way by things.
  10. a local camera friend has just received his and I was planning to go check it out this week. I know he ordered the additional accessory that allows timecode input, just not sure if its arrived. but interested to fiddle with it some. thanks for the tips on the audio level control.
  11. Looking for some referrals for bag mixing type of folk who are cool, fun havers and quick on their feet. Pro sound gave me a good list of names but looking to see if anyone on here has any good referrals that would match what I have on this large'sh list from Pro-Sound nola. dates for the shoot are dec 30th-jan 1st i'm pretty sure. mixer/recorder, 3-4 talent wireless, wireless to link to camera and 2 IFB.
  12. something was wrong with your maxx tx. I've had great experiences with using that transmitter with 100' easy. as to your other experiences, i understand your concern with the stereo/mono tx's software. it can be confusing and pretty much requires emailing zaxcom your serial number to confirm.
  13. brooks, I've been running 2 block 21 srb's with a 633 and zaxcom camera link on block 23 since august for a college football show i'm on that has spread over 10 different cities across the US. the only time i've pulled them out has been for football games that didn't have any official frequency coordination in place, so i threw in 411's just to be safe. but i always try to have a safe distance in all of my frequencies. in some instances, finding enough clear space in that one block has been my biggest challenge. but usually we are pretty close to talent so I haven't had much of an issue. but the spacial gap in frequencies only applies to one unit, i've experienced no interference because of that.
  14. i had a few calls for ACC media day but I was already booked. lot of good guys in town and we all know how to play nicely.
  15. JonG, I did this gig a few years ago and it was not an ENG gig. i used my mm-1, boom, mic, etc… plugged into the smqv they provided me with and went to town. its a boom op gig.
  16. Rob, Blair is actually from winston. I know a few people that know him and have worked with him, but I have never met the dude.
  17. Jack, I seem to remember Glenn telling us at NAB that if we bought one he'd make it fully enclosed so that it could be top, bottom, or remotely mounted elsewhere I'll be placing my order this week, Glenn!
  18. here's a little clip from an interview earlier this year. https://soundcloud.com/manglermixer/dr-maya-angelou-voice-warm-up
  19. she lives close by. worked with her just a few months ago on a doc about her life. unfortunately i wasn't available for the most recent filming session. but i've worked her lots of times throughout the years. we truly did lose a great one… As a sound mixer, she was incredible. Such a strong voice that just soothed your soul. always before we started she would sing to set the mood, but it was a great mic check. but i always wanted to have my levels set before she started so i could get clean recordings. I'll have to dig one up. This was from filming with her back in January.
  20. there's a few DIT's in my area that have them. they are really nice and well built but for what I want in a sound cart, not so much. but i definitely appreciate their craftsmanship!
  21. one of the main reasons the clear cover is extra long with the stingray is so that you can have the antennas up on your receivers. with the petrol bags and their clear covers they don't have much room at all for the whips. in some ways, this can be a double edged sword. so in your case, you see it as a hinderance. in my case, on those days when there's a slight mist, its a bonus. straight up, i'm a beta tester for the ktek bag so you can take my words as they are. and one thing you should not think about is "ktek isn't really a bag company", they may not have made bags in the past, but they are now and doing it right in my opinion. by taking a looooot of user input and having real mixers test their bags and being open about it. you don't hear petrol or portabrace doing that. they make a bag and say, here, use this and deal with it. So i'm a maxx user. i was using the small petrol. it was tight but i made it work. a lot of my jobs have me venturing far away from home base so there's usually a collection of goodies i need to have with me. with the petrol bag, i always had to rock my awesome fanny pack. although, another mixer has mentioned he likes that way as it keeps his body balanced and less like a 9 month pregnant mother. in some ways, i agree. but for me, i prefer all my shit kind of in one place, 1 bag is easier to worry about than 2, when getting in and out of vehicles and stuff like that. so the stingray was exactly what i was looking for. its taller than the other bags, and for a reason. its narrower than other bags, because it doesn't have to be as wide(intended for maxx and 633). its more rigid than other bags, because we complained about flaccid sound bags all the time. how i rock my bag, maxx, ear buds, 2-4 wireless(but can do 6), lav mics and accessories, IFB tx, sometimes 2 np1 batteries, snacks, additional batteries and occasionally an eng cable that conveniently clips to front of bag. so on game/race days, i can just deal with one bag, that isn't too heavy, and have all my tid bits along for the ride. i don't think the bag is overly heavy, empty its like 3.4lbs or something like that. so thats my input.
