  1. not at all, if anything it keeps the plugs tight in the unit. but *cough* feet *cough* released...
  2. I've got lectro mostly on 24/26 and my hop on 21. i don't see much from the tx on the srb but just for safety i have swapped the positioning of the 411a and the srb. its been good to go! for xlr's, i use right angle male connectors, which is pretty much a must for bag'n the maxx my NP1 is sitting in the middle of bag on the front side of my wireless. i unzip the front flap to access it. i get a solid day+ on maxx, srb, 2 411a's and even using two lectro tx's for hops. if i add in a 4th channel of wireless i stick the 411 in the front pouch. for my boom cable i have a 90 male and 90 female thats used a jumper, and if i need a 4th wireless i have the cable ready for it, just unplug the boom and plug up the wireless.
  3. i'm rocking a petrol 607 bag.
  4. so i was the first person to encounter this issue that bernie is referring to. i was shown their rig before our first shoot via cell phone pics. pictured was a power tap splitter. i had a power tap to lectro style connector, easy enough. well when we setup and i plugged in, we had that clicking going on. i unplugged power from srb and it went away. so my next instinct was to power the srb with my sony style battery, stuck that on, sound was fine, so we went to work. producer had concerns for future sound mixers working with same gear. and after further inspection, appeared that my "lectro style" connector was actually a few mm's too short, but yet still powered the srb. so i figured the clicking came from possibly a ground loop issue caused but that short connector. i know my ta3-xlr cables are good, i use them regularly (today again actually) and they are fine. and actually Mr. Toline made them, so until he's dead, they have a lifetime guarantee. some more specs: the click came through camera and external recorder. i also tried running p-tap into a different port on breakout splitter and the additional power tap on the battery mount, still had clicks. unfortunately we were kind of in a rush so i just went to battery mode. it worked, so we went on making kick ass tee-vee. i wish i would have had more supplies with me to test further this scenario and i hate that another location mixer is having to deal with this. but i have a good feeling it has something to do with the v-mount's setup, how to fix it tho, i am not certain. but we'll keep at it and figure it out, trouble shooting is our job.
  5. i'm a gh3 owner. i use it for my own personal projects and have rented it to clients a few time for 2nd or 3rd cam. i've also had success with running a g3 wireless straight to it. for what i was doing, it was fine. i also have a juicedlink xlr adapter, pretty simple as well. now as far as timecode... you can only dummy jam it. it won't accept or spit out any sort of code. and by dummy jam, setting its clock to a few seconds past a master clock and hitting the set button when master clock reaches that time. its a great camera and makes a very nice image. underrated in the dslr market in my opinion.
  6. ohhhh snap! thats great news. my back and shoulders wish it would have happened 6 weeks ago but i'll take it!
  7. My only complaint, the plastic shield isn't removable. When you fold it down in between your belly and the bag it makes me sweat a lot more in that area and gets uncomfortable after a long day. I've thought about cutting it off and seeing about having a seamstress rig up a Velcro flap to reattach it. But other than that, it's my 302 bag and I'll buy another one for the maxx.
  8. i would have been pissed, i'll leave it at that.
  9. i do a lot of nascar stuff and i use the etymotic er4s models with custom ear mold tips which makes them really small and discrete. i know other dudes on the circuit use the westone in ears as well. the remote audio cans are nice, but they are large and hot on your ears so not a lot of dudes in nascar run those. if you're just wanting to protect your ears, check with local gun ranges for custom molded ear protection. but if you're going to go the custom ear mold route, might as well get in ear monitors so you can double up the usage.
  10. I was right at that exact place a few weeks ago... production wanted a lot of wireless in their version of a "basic kit" for the price of my basic kit (2 wireless, mixer, boom), but they did cave in and pay for a 3rd wireless. as soon as we start prepping gear, DP points out how he prefers hop mounted to his camera. me, "hmm... well i hate to be the bearer of bad news but production didn't want to pay extra for hops so we're going hardwired". his reply, "mother fuckers..." but it wasn't too bad of a shoot. not a lot of aggressive booming and the most we usually had on camera were 2.
  11. the 5d doesn't shoot true 24. the menu may say 24 but its really 23.98 (i forget, its been a while since i've looked). thats been a huge problem with a lot of these new dslr "dp's". they don't know the difference. not a lot of cameras shoot true 24, the red and alexa are the 2 common cameras that will shoot true 24.
  12. my small 302 kit has the following: -ENG breakaway cable with return is a must have -ta3 mix out cable from 302 to split L-R xlrm (with line to mic pad) -ta3 mix out to cable from 302 split L-R ta5f for lectro tx's wireless hop call up one of the usual suspects, or Eric Toline to make up those cables. -an emergency RX to add a 4th channel in the 302 if need be -sound bag -harness -battery distro system when for you step up to higher end wireless that should be make a pretty decent kit.
  13. watched part 1 and part 2 last night, was pretty amazing.
  14. just finished up 3 days on a show, pretty simple and light bag. the sra was recently upgraded to srb. pretty good results thus far!
  15. I have 2 ta5 to xlr adapters I keep in my case, have only used one once when client requested a hardwire lav for a sit down. But better to have than not.
  16. That appears to be an older model of bag by maybe 2 generations. Recent updates have done away with that single strap and now have 3 eyelets for optional mounting. You can get visuals by looking at the petrol site or many of the "show me your bag" posts.
  17. you really can't go wrong with the sony battery sled setup. the np-f550 will run the unit for 10 hours strong, i've gotten 12+ before. and i use the b&h pearstone brand. i've got 2 sra's i use as camera hop rx's so i bought 2 of the simple wall chargers and 4 of the batteries. if you want to go even cheaper, i think for $30 you can get 2 batteries and a charger off ebay. i've heard mixed results from those tho.
  18. cool, sorry i'm just now seeing this and i work in charlotte a lot. thanks whitney for tossing my name out. there's a couple of solid dudes in charlotte so hopefully they got one of them!
  19. i love nature but damn this is going to suck. just the regular cicadas in the summer time in NC can be a pain in the ass but this is going to be on a another level.
  20. Really bummed I couldn't make it this year, a perfect storm of multiple jobs fell in my lap. But hopefully next year I can make it back out! The NAB show is cool but I too feel the highlight is hanging out and seeing/meeting fellow soundies!
  21. i do the .55/mile and include travel time in my time for the day as well. just had a call to work as a local in a city 2.5 hours away. its a pretty popular destination for shoots but there isn't crew within at least an hour and half away. i requested mileage and for travel time to be included in my work time, otherwise i'd have a 15 hour work day. client passed, as they have a "local hire only" policy. i've talked with whitney about this recently where productions are moving to a local only rule. thats BS. when your production is happening in BFE you should be aware that you're going to have to pay travel.
  22. i've had pretty good results using the perc apron thingy. i usually leave it clipped to the side of my bag or close by in my backpack. the show i've been on in the mountains has rain/snow creeping up on us pretty regularly so its nice to have right there. and i can have it on in seconds. and i'm using the bigger portabrace harness.
  23. i use SRa with battery sleds (or not) for 2 channel hop via smqv's, ERXTCD's for scratch/timecode/IFB or Senn Gx for mono/IFB.
  24. i have tickets booked but a show i'm on is flip flopping on dates. so I'm still up in the air with it. hopefully they can make a decision soon!
