  1. I switched over to all Mac about 6 years ago, and have had my share of headaches, but less than when I was a Windows user I feel. One thing I miss about windows is being able to build my own computer. A Windows based computer was like having a comprehensive set of Legos. I could build what I wanted. I built my first one in early 2000's and gave it to my Parents who used till about mid 2010 when it finally died. The sad part is my parents have bought 3 new PC's since then. They just keep crapping out. Although I'm sure it's not totally the computer's fault. I've tried to get them to buy a Mac, as I feel it's more user friendly for those who are not very savvy with computers.
  2. I noticed this as well. I have gotten some very clean audio off the boom, much like he very isolated sound you can get with a lav, but with the drastically better frequency response of a boom with my Nomad. Crazy difference over my old SD 442. I really do love the sou d of my Nomad. They just need to get smooth out the rest of the machine and get it to be a little more solid in the field.
  3. I don't know anyone in the Phillipines, but I can say that it's a wonderful country. If you do any diving and have the time go up to Los Aliminos to the 100 islands national park. You can take a bus from Manila, lengthy ride about 8 hours assuming the roads don't get flooded. But worth it. And Chooks to go Chicken is amazing as well as Max's Fried chicken. Boracay was great too.
  4. +1 Love it when that happens.
  5. As well as a shop in Queens would essentially have to forget about customers from Brooklyn, and shop in Brooklyn would forget about having customers from Queens. NYC subway does a great job of getting people into and out of Manhattan, but it sucks a bag o d's if you want to go from Queens to Brooklyn or vice versa.
  6. A store in Brooklyn or Queens is generally too out of the way in the eyes of most productions. Just about every sales and rental house is in Manhattan, although there are some lighting places in the outer boros.
  7. Zaxcom has its own forum which anyone can join. Where it is a nice to have the information available on this forum it would be better for Zaxcom users, potential users, and anyone with a question about zaxcom products, to have the information available on that forum as well. Maybe I'm too much of free thinker, but when I have questions about a product I usually start at the source.
  8. Put the Genny in the Box truck with the door open but pointing away from set. And maybe make sure no one is spening too much time in the box truck
  9. I've used my Nomad with a Cmit, CMC641, Senn MKH416, MKH 60, and Neumann KMR81 and have not had any issues with preamp noise. I've felt that the Nomad pre's have been probably the most quiet and transparent of any Field mixer or recorder I've used to date. I did notice that the CMIT needed more gain than anything else, the CMC641 just a little less, 416 and 81 fairly high as well, and the 60 only at about halfway up the scale. Make sure there isn't wrong with your cables or something.
  10. I used them in the past. The cable although thinner is supposed to be stronger than say a Tram or Sankens cable. I liked the sound of my sankens better and eventually just sold the VT's. On a side note: if you use a small round file and file out the spot where the cable goes through on the VT vampire clips so it's circular you can mount a Sanken on the vamp.
  11. Met a Mixer in NYC that uses a Flak Jacket with a Molle strap system for mounting his gear. The jacket has a quick release on it so if he is working near water and falls in he can release his"anchor" and not get dragged under. It makes you wonder why there isn't a design for a quick release for safety reasons on harnesses.
  12. I'm waiting on a Kortwich for my Nomad. Using the belt system they have. Had them add some stiffer structure and more padding to the back and bottom as the stock one was uncomfortable and diggin in to my belly. Hopefully the extra padding does the trick, but I'm really looking forward to the belt to take the wait off my back and put it on my hips. Probably going to use a light weight shoulder harness just to help with stabilization if I have to run.
  13. I agree about the 60. I'm buying a new shotgun right now, and took a 60, but I'm going back to PSS with it to compare it to another. It definitely didn't have the freq response that I expected. I turned all roll offs off and was next to some heavy truck traffic and even if I pointed the mic at the traffic it just didn't seem to have the low end I would expect. On the voice it just seemed thin, but it does have really good off axis rejection. I'm comparing this to a 416. I tried the high freq emphasis switch both on and off, the pad, and the low end roll off, just didn't sound natural. I'm gonna compare it with an older 60 to see if maybe it just needs to get some use first to really start to sound better. A break in period of sorts. I may give the Sanken CS-2 a shot, but I really want something with a roll off and pad on the mic. Not sure if the CS-2 has both.
  14. Jeff has a very good point and Zaxcom users or anyone for that matter can join the Zaxcom forum where something like this would be most useful. Better to put resources for users of Zaxcom products all in the same place.
  15. As I understood it the MP3 would be recorded to the SD mini card when implemented, the WiFi dongle would be just for sending it wirelessly via a WiFi internet connection if available.
  16. Forest Gump, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Crimson Tide, The Hunt for Red October, The Fifth Element. Definitely The Shawshank Redemption. I think I watched it 3 nights in a row last month. Almost forgot The 13th Warrior, and Xmen: First Class seems to be becoming one as well. It's seems likely that people are not working today and or have late calls as many of the films mentioned were on this morning. Funny. J Hemmerlin
  17. If you're ordering from Pro-sound they will wire the mics for whatever transmitter you are using. Just tell them the model you are using.
  18. Not if she's the Wilt Chamberlain of hookers!
  19. Connect wifi to Cube. Use Zeroconfspy to connect to cube login. Should see the cube's name in the list. A safari page will open. As long as no one changed it login and password will be Admin. login to the cube. Look for the web address for the wireless quickview. Copy it. Logout. Properly close all running apps(press iPod button twice, press and hold an icon on the bottom they shake and then press the dashes to close the apps). Open up Oplayer. Go to open URL. Paste web address you copied for the transmitter settings page. Click done. Video should show. The delay can be hefty. Once you get a connection Oplayer will save the address in the list, so you just have to click it next time. When you lose connection to the trans be it a batt change or interference you'll need to fully close Oplayer and restart it to get the video feed. The cube manual is available online and has all of this info in it. Just do a search. Good luck.
  20. Not knowing what type of metering you're looking at, ie: peak vs. VU. Did this first time I ever used a 442. I guess I would also say, read the damn manual for every piece of gear you're ever gonna use.
  21. Comteks won't work for multi bag use. Producers will want to switch to listen to different bags. Not possible on comteks.
  22. Great litle tool. Don't rely on the TA connector to securely hold it to the little clip. It quickly wears out and becomes lose and then you lose your bullet when you least expect it. Keep it in a pouch or somewhere else thats safe.
  23. Thanks for the ideas. I guess I should've given more info. It'll probably be on a laptop or Ipad. Talent needs to hear the conversation as well. We don't really have any ext speakers or anything for to split the signal, and pluggin anything to the hp out on the laptop or Ipad the talent will not be able to hear the other person. Syncing anything after the fact isn't going to fly for this show. I was thinking that if I could do a 3 way call I could get the audio off the 3rd device like I do for cell phone calls on camera. If I do this there would be a third video feed I think. As well as the fact that you need to have a business account or premium account to do so.
  24. So for a show that I've been doing we've doing some Skype calls and I'm trying to figure out a better way to get the audio. Usually I just hide a lav close to the speaker of the computer, but I was wondering if anyone has been able to use maybe a 3rd computer to get the sound off of. Kind of like doing a 3 way cell call with a tap to get both sides of the conversation. Any ideas?
  25. Been using these on a show and some of our directors wanted to use their iPhone 4 and it doesn't seem to work. I use my iPod and it's solid other than the delay. Anyone have problems with iPhone. I guess the actual cell service is causing problems.
