  1. The best Nomad sound bag ever made. $35.83
A lot of cool pockets and features. But the best feature is you can zip up the top to protect it. WHICH EVERY SOUND BAG SHOULD HAVE!!!!
All water resistant. Great padding. Waist mounts and shoulder strap. Side cup pocket. Zippers and compartments everywhere.
I wish somebody makes a small one like that for NOVA OneUNit.

Just to confirm the DPA 56 Ta5f microdot adapters I bought and used were all made by DPA and bought through a national distributor for DPA.  The 2 microdot adapters that failed were DPA made.

To be honest I have 5 of those and used them twice. TA5 is the weak link not the Microdot. Mine are all Lemo3 to microdot.

As that famous advice guru has said "it depends".  My .02.  Hardwired saves a lot of grief.  Jim's suggestion go with a four split screen, whether it is something large or tablet size.  Depending on who you are working with, buy one of the BM bi-directional converters, covers HDMI or SDI.  I run into this on occassion.

You run in to people feeding HDMI?

On reasonable budget series I work on lately I send a Comtek signal on an Option 7 PR216  to the Qtake operator, and get an SDI single cable with however many cameras are being used on it already split screen for my 19 inch feel world monitor.

I bought a Decimator when I got the bigger monitor, but never had to use it. But of course I don't use  video on every setup, only when it is convenient and lots of sources to check on.

    Different strokes for different folks.

    QTake splits it for you?

I have a snake I made with 1x XLR + 3x coax (SDI) to send audio to VTR, and receive up to 3 camera feeds. I have never needed a

converter, even with my almost 10 years old BlackMagic duo.

Can’t remember ever getting a wireless video receiver.

What cable did you use? Or did you just loon the SDI cables with the XLR?

  6. I getting more into cart mixing and am finishing my cart.

I am selecting my monitors at the moment and wants to stay away from 19’ rackmounts to keep my cart light and small.

I thinking to get 2 very bright 7” field monitors and add a 3rd 5” “that I already own” when I need it.

    Here is my question:

When VTR sends SDI down the cart do they just loop through lets say 4k DCI 23.976 or do they down convert to 2k or 1080P.

There are many monitors to choose from but SDI INPUT is up to 2k signals.

DO you have your own converters?

How often do you get wireless receivers?

Yes, the Cosi is a must-have product, no doubt.
However, it still muffles the sound a little bit, so if you’re moving in and out quickly, with potentially szrong wind, I would probably prefer to use a Pianissimo and just take off/put on the fur, as that is really easy and fast to do

Mine sounds fine. Nothing out of the ordinary. If anything the pianisimo with big fur is touch muffled

  8. 4 minutes ago, Derek H said:

Yes, that’s a fair assessment. The piano is a commitment to strong outdoor wind protection. It doesn’t have a quick way to get the shell off and just use it as a mount. But if you can try out their Cosi product you might like that for indoors and out.

I only use Pianisimo in very strong wind. 99% of the time COSI is good.

The ADX5D range stability with ADX1 is insanely good, the ADX1M range stability is good not great.  Showlink does tend to bug out with the ADX5Ds, but nothing a reboot can't fix.  It's kind of annoying tho to be sure.

Comparing to my ZMT3 and QRX200, I'd say zax wins for stability and range against the ADX1M pretty clearly, but loses against the ADX1.  However the ADX1 is much more bulky than the ZMT3, but the ADX1 has an 8 hour battery life...  So lots to compare and contrast.

The rack units with showlink network and shark fins are definitely the way.  Back up frequency hopping is sooooooo good.

If you use trxLA or LT with MRX414 QRX212 range is a lot more compared to ZMT even at 25-50mW

One person wrote on forum in 2007 that Sennheiser was still working on its digital transmitter.
I believe they started working on it in the 1990s. Then, in 2011, the D9000 series was released, consisting of the EM 9046 (successor to the EM 1046 version), along with the handheld SKM 9000 and bodypack SK 9000. I still consider it the best wireless system in terms of sound quality. It has uncompressed sound (in HD mode), making it the cleanest sound. I had the opportunity to hear it, and I can't hear a difference between a cable and this system.
Just to emphasize, one channel costs 10 000 euros!

And this is where this miniature american company with genius people - Howard Stark on software and Glenn Sanders on hardware- accomplished what giant corporations like Sony, Sennhieser/neumann and Shure “ with their giant RD departments” are still yet to accomplish.

    Pure american success story.

Over fifteen years, so not quite as long as Zaxcom, but a long time none the less, and is getting up there.

I remember the year Zaxcom introduced digital wireless. At NAB I asked  sennheiser are they working on or going to have digital wireless anytime soon. They said they are working on it but a single Digital RX would be 8u rack space which makes it not practice.

Same year zaxcom released their system.

    Ouch!

There are several Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapters sold by Sonnet. I think the one sold as "AVB" has a Broadcom chip (well supported by Apple and others) would work as well without needing to chain dongles. But I haven't tried it.

The Mac Mini option of course is the best option of course.

The thing with Dante is, the protocol is not so complicated. But the market is littered with real networking junk which works well enough for the low end peecee market (or it doesn't work at all but unsuspecting customers don't know who is to blame).

Everytime it was not chip based but hardware port loosing connection problem.

I am on a show now with USBC/TB4 port to Nic adapter and it has not been an issue.

What do you reckon the Shure ADX5D is still missing?

Sony is almost getting there for as long 😉

Mobile Rx range stability is not on par with the rack point unit.
i don’t remember Sony being in the digital that long.

Digital transmission certainly does not offer greater signal range. The SK5212 has great range, there must be something wrong with your system. I had the opportunity to compare with the digital SK6212, and the signal range of the SK5212 is slightly better. Digital transmission has advantages other than reach.

Great range emulation in to the digital mobile receiver?  Rack mount analog receiver yes. Digital mobile receiver no. Not even close.

Last Summer I tried several USB-C to Ethernet interfaces with a Macbook Pro. I was going to do something rather straightforward, recording a concert (16 channels over Dante from the stage preamps).

I only found one combination to really work as it should. The old Apple Thunderbolt GbE adapter chained to a Thunderbolt 4 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter.

The rest were a mixed bag and some of them outright catastrophic.

I had a few instances with thunderbolt 2 adapter disconnecting.

If it is ever my choice I would do a mac mini with actual integrated NIC

  15. My opinion about Shure axient:

Absolutely great system with Rack Receivers.

The mobile bag receiver however is not there yet.

    Lectro digital has big transmitters.

Look in to Zaxcom. It is superior in many ways. SMallest transmitters and smallest receivers. 20 years building digital.
