  1. I am against glomming things together, but would this help?: http://cdm.link/2016/03/tested-apple-finally-lets-you-charge-and-use-usb-on-ipad/
  2. conventional powering does not get you ahead of the power curve. charging overnight and being connected to ac from time to time during the day might get you through the day.
  3. fast charging an ipad pro: https://www.cnet.com/how-to/ipad-pro-fast-charging/
  4. are you running your power through a power star or meon distribution/back-up system? that sometimes adds a few tenths of a volt. vin seems to be running his x3 on 12v without any adverse effects, but the manual does specify 13v in the appendix. my psc powerstar supplies my cart with 12.5v on batts and 13.5v on ac. if you ever ran into problems with your power, using a remoteaudio juicer would be a solution. I used to run a juicer with my analog mixer, which was happiest at 15v.
  5. rent an x3, if the budget allows. make sure you have external power available. the autonomous battery life on internal batts is not what one is used to with the x1/x2. with the x3, I run with the ssd and (1) sd card in real time, (1)sd card in idle. run all of them monophonic, as philip mentioned. the idle sd card could be your polyphonic files, if post wants it for any reason.
  6. boats and cars are two popular places that mac minis end up and there are a lot of websites that describe powering options and others that make cable harnesses that save a lot of time and experimentation: http://www.carnetix.com/cables

    DPA - Slim

a 4063 version of the slim would be handy, for optimal zax use
  8. the "acn" version of the ambient slate uses 4 batteries my trx742 fires up with the ipowers, and I get 3.5hrs out of them which is not much more than with the eneloop pros. we tend to run the 742 at 125mw all the time, on our set.
  9. I like using the band with zaxcom receivers because the lower wide band transmitters(.5) and the higher wide band transmitters (.6) overlap at channel 23. means its easier to get a loaner from my dealer when my gear heads to the mothership for repair
  10. I had a flaky erx volume control and I just set the volume to max through the menu and gave out a pair of sennheiser headphones with an inline volume control. got me out of a jam. the constant flexing on the motherboard makes some of the volume controls on my erx units intermittent and its annoying to isolate the problem with multiple units.
  11. I am likely to try the remote audio ones because trew is walking distance for me and inspired is not. more satisfying to have a malfunction replaced immediately, in person.
  12. I used the 9volt ones in micron700 transmitters. when the "aa" ones arrive, I will try them in zaxcom transmitters. perhaps balance is less of an issue since they are regulated. time will tell.
  13. about 10 days ago, we were in a church and had some unexplained rf grief. turned out it was an assistive listening system that worked on 2.4ghz.
  14. I used ipower's 9volt lithium polymer batteries for 5 years without incident. more likely to short out a 9v than an "aa"
  15. I would sell my dongle, but why would anyone buy it?
  16. I think the point is, if your dailies were delayed by a full day by shooting this resolution continuously, more discipline may follow
  17. in my market, it is the camera crew that rents their teradek package to the production, and they often have no spares. there is no incentive for a rental house to give the production a good rate on an additional teradek receiver for me. my present project uses a teradek 600 for the steadicam, and teradek 300 units on the dolly, both of which my teradek sidekick can handle. as axel mentions, this is not a budget friendly solution, but I am liking the flexibility
  18. I can't speak to compatibility but the L3 pops up on eBay from time to time at great prices. I bought a new one in november for $25USD. I keep it as a back-up to the now discontinued apple a1242, which I like for its robustness and low profile

    Cases for Zaxcom ERX

the ktek case is very robust, but changing batteries is a challenge...
  20. brian: swing by set sometime and I'll run through how the x3 differs from your x2.
  21. not sure what weight you are trying to float, but in my market, the flexible ultralight system is becoming very popular. it is an a la carte principal, so mix and match the pieces you need, or change things up when your needs change. I use one to position a teradek receiver. camera types most often use the arms for monitors: http://www.ulcs.com
  22. the show I am on now, we often lose connection in the studio - line of sight - with the ominous "searching". they reboot the transmitter in question and wait for it to re-establish a connection. we often lose 20min a day waiting. no one likes to shoot "blind" anymore, so if we can't see it, we won't shoot it. this is with the bolt300 system. there may very well be some strong interference in the air, but no one has the skill or gear to troubleshoot. on some sets, the d.m.t. person takes it upon themselves to sort out these issues. I also have an x3 and am some 70+ days into a series, using it. night and day experience compared to the x1. having a great time with it.
  23. if you are on a large enough production (with lots of rentals), the rental house can often toss in a down converter and standard def transmitter for nothing...because there is little demand for them on the camera side of things, now wanting to see everything on high def monitors
  24. I have found the teradeks quite annoying with their limited penetration and range. the amount of time lost every day on set, waiting for the transmitter and receiver to "handshake" is mind boggling. that being said, and the expense aside, my sidekick should arrive this coming week.... I had hoped to have a couple of weeks to play with it on my current job, before my next job, but teradek seems overwhelmed at the moment. if the camera types are bored, I may get it working soon. otherwise, I may not have an answer for you for another 2 weeks or so. how is your x3 doing?
  25. with the trx742 and the digital cone, you can send and receive both the processed and unprocessed signal. I have done this on many occasions. make sure you are running a current version of the firmware. an earlier version reversed the channels, leading to some confusion. (well, I was confused by it...)
