  1. I call this my last summer of freedom, my junior year summer in HS Before I became a "working class hero" in 1969 I saw everyone of these shows. Life was good, the music was good Location was Saint Charles, Illinois
  2. I am sure I saw this discussed before here, I just can’t seem to find it now. being loaded in BLK 24 as others I am just curious what others are doing about it. seems to me there are three options. Pay for a block change Do the trade in option Or try to sell overseas. I look at the chart Lectrosonics has put out from the FCC and if I am reading it right, it seems that parts of blk 21 , 22 is going to be safe in a lot of areas across the country? I also see LA. will have only 4 channels ? It is really irritating, already been thru the blk 27 mess. Don’t even understand why the FCC has gotten so involved in this. ( really I understand $$ ) They should be spending time and money in getting the missile early warning system in Hawaii working correctly.
  3. The DIT tells me that " the spare channels are used to float between talent " ?? To me if they are being used by talent they are not spare
  4. I am going to have a t shirt printed up to read "how come it seems the SOUND GUY is always the old guy ?" 65 here Tom in Chicago
  5. thanks all will ask their DIT today
  6. i am more confused than before
  7. i have got a job where production is asked to assign members of cast to certain tracks, no problem then it reads " Channel 6- Float 1 Channel 7 - Float 2 " Could someone please enlighten me on floating Thanks Tom
  8. I just have to vent , sorry, The other day, it was reported that CBS was not showing a episode of NCIS and Super Girl because the story line involved terrorism. They actually believe that the public will be grateful of their decision when all year long they show this crap involving chasing terrorists and murder and brutality in this Country. Sadly after time passes they will air this crap as they do all year long. You cant turn on the stupid tube with out seeing some person chasing another person with a gun or blowing each other up. We have hour long shows about who murdered who, we have shows showing prison life, drug users. And then you have early morning shows where people make 25 million a year with a show that tells you how to dress, what to eat and what is trending or how to dress your kids for the weather. I don't know how parents even turn on a tv in their home. there is absolutely nothing for children to watch about family life. My heart goes out to not only the victims in France but also their first responders, Those men and women who come and save lives, how they must have nightmares. I cant even imagine the bravery it takes to do their job. They are heroes, the police, fire and medical personal all over the world. I am disconnecting my tv, the news is terrible and when there is nothing to report, they tell me stupid stuff that have no bearing on my daily decisions I make. This will also get those salesmen out of my house who try to sell me something every 5 minutes. Peace Tom n Chicago
  9. I was not sure to which forum to put this in . I have done some selling and buying from a lot of your here. It always has gone smoothly and pain free. I just finished a purchase from Saxman. What a great guy , was very fair with me , even gave me time to contact the dealer to get any questions or concerns answered about the gear, sent me pictures, talked to me on the phone and answered all my questions. Just want other members to know, he's a very good fellow to deal with. Cheers Tom n Chicago
  10. Ok I live in this town Batavia . Just heard about this today, last year they said they were cutting funding to this lab. I am sure this project will cost millions, but I guess its going to make a lot of work for some. Kind of interesting they can control something that far underground , or can they http://www.kcchronicle.com/2015/06/24/residents-informed-about-fermilabs-experiment/a44qons/Later Tom
  11. Thought this might be of interest to some Thanks Tom http://www.reelchicago.com/article/cineverse-s-fletcher-and-borys-sacrificed-profit150619
  12. Thanks for all the great ideas folks. I have a PSC cart. I like it except for the front small casters on sidewalks. I would like to convert to some bigger pneumatic tires for the front , yet not sure what would work with keeping the standard rear wheels. Looked a a lot of the cart pictures and really don't see any. Any ideas ? Thanks Tom
  13. I am guess it is something I am doing wrong. When I fill out the header info on creating a sound report the info seems to go in any random order it wants to and not the order I would like it to. Example if I list the date at the top of the first column it might end up the third entry down in the third column. Thanks Tom
  14. Wasn't me I swear. I cannot go out the door for that ! Heck its a 40 mile drive for me to downtown from my suburb. In January I got a email from a so called award winning producer offering me a whopping $1000 !!!! for a 8 day shoot. I politely told him , he could not even rent my mixer for $125 a day He replied back with a rental company where he could rent a mixer for $39 a day I replied no further Cheers Tom Chicago
  15. Well the old man here finally got a union job, not exactly a call from the union but the production company had a rush fast turn around call for the following day and I guess with all the work here in Chicago , the hall could not fill it. My reason for writing this is to complement the union members I had a chance to work with. Was a pleasure to work with a client and a director who knew what he wanted, a DP that knew how to get it fast and a gaffer and grips that got it done now. Oh and good food!!! I have worked on a number of features and even corporate jobs where the camera op wanders from the camera while rolling to check email on the phone or when a cut is called crew thinks its TTT ( time to talk ) and looks at utube videos on their phones. Used to drive me crazy all the chatter and noise in-between takes. Now when they get ready to roll sound I simply say i am waiting for quite please. Don't get me wrong I like to have fun, but when someone is paying me for my time, my experience and my gear I like to think I give them 8 for 8 or 10 for 10 in most cases. I think it would be good for all newcomers in this business no mater what position see a professional crew in action and see it is a job and work and not romper room. Cheers Tom Maloney Chicago
  16. Watching Morning Joe this morning, Location is in a auto plant. Looks to be a location sound nightmare. See they are using ear worn mics, big foam. For the location , hats of to the crew for the audio they are getting, sounds good I am thinking cast is projecting a little more than normal.

  18. Phil, thanks for posting, gives a whole new meaning to your craft. Makes me dizzy, amazing ,you have four monitors to watch, sides. I can imagine the years it takes to master this.
  19. I noticed in the article the viewing age did not go over at age of 59 So I guess I am not alone in that I do not watch these kind of shows
  20. I don't claim to know everything, gosh if I did I be resting on my own island somewhere. Anyway I just finished up 9 days with a couple of so called film school people. Shooting with 2 exact cameras , AF 100, I have done my fair share of shooting and make it a habit of getting the camera manual on my IPad before the shoot.Listening to their conversations I was curious why they were having such big discussions and differences with their fstops. I look at cam A's screen and see a ISO of 400 with a ND 2 on, on cam B I see a ISO of 1600 with ND#2 on. Both cameras were on tripods and the OIS is engaged on both cameras. This was a INT scene. I gave a short definition of ISO , OIS and ND filters , I showed them what the OIS was doing to their shot at the end of a pan on a tripod. They kind of looked at me like I was speaking in a different language, one says" I guess I should take some classes" I told them classes don' teach all , you have to get the manual and study it and work the camera before hand. I am thinking to myself what does this so called film school teach? This job to me was someone just turning dials and pushing buttons until they saw a image in the VF. Kept me very amused listening to them. To top it off, yesterday I get a call from the editor who was on location ( another film school person ) he tells me my audio files are fine but one of the cameras has a smudge like smear on the lens in every shot. I asked "and this concerns me in what way." He thought I would like to know. I asked every day how picture and sound was to the editor who was off loading every night ,he said fine. I think they were all in a big hurry for pizza and beers each night and never really looked closely. Oh well ,I'm over it , paid and all. Just such a shame to me to see how some people work with no clue.
  21. After 9 days with two film school people on camera I have so many sad stories. I am not making fun of people, I don't know everything either, none of us do. I say sad because the school they went to either shorted them or they slept thru the classes. Scene in bedroom, 2 cameras, woman on phone having conversation. I am set up in another room, have 1 of the two cameras up on my monitor. After the take and cut is called, I go to bedroom, not stepping on toes or making a loud scene or anything, wallked over to the cam op and very quietly say" just asking, your shot looked out of focus to me, I only have a SD I monitor, might be just me"......... " yeah it's was out of focus " ......... I left the room, I did not tell anyone else, either did he.
  22. Carlos, I am in Chicago also. Oh Marc , I love the saying " Indifferent crew members" such a good and polite way to say it Carlos I am at a different end of the spectrum, retired from a company after 32 years, doing a lot of corporate talking heads and do get involved in some indies ,if they have a good script and merit and budget. I find myself trying to educate people that the files I give them gives creative choices in post. I try to get all sounds on location, foot steps, door slams , everything that will help. Seems people expect sound to follow video and don't want to or don't know how to work with a multi track Example , had a shot of talent taking a swig of wine out a brown paper bag ,she was standing on flight of interior stairs in a quite hallway trying to hear a muted conversation on the other side of a closed door. I asked and got a couple of FXs of the crunching bag of the paper bag when she lifted it. The final cut was great with the bag sound , not over bearing but it made it so believable. 23. Here is something to read on down time http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2013/07/surveilling-the-birds/277650/?google_editors_picks=true Thought the sound booth very interesting.
