  1. To answer some questions. Zaxcom could file what is known as a 337 case, against imports (or attempted imports) of the infringing item, notwithstanding its current suit in the NJ Federal District court. A 337 case is filed with the ITC, the result would be an order to Customs to stop/seize any entries. Not sure whether the Tascam warehouse is a bonded warehouse. If so, transshipment to Canada is not an issue, because it never would enter the Customs territory of the US, even though it may be physically located here. If its not a bonded warehouse, Tascam could enter it under a TIB (Transit In Bond), such that it may physically traverse the US, on its way to Canada. Neither would be affected by Zaxcom's infringement actions.
  2. Jeff: you are correct. I departed from the facts in making that last statement. However, I can also tell you that, unlike everybody else, I have been working in the legal arena for 3 decades and, while not a lawyer, I interpret laws and regulations, draft case and rebuttal brief arguments, and review federal court decisions on an almost daily basis (when I am not mixing sound). That Zaxcom did not claim that the device itself was infringing is telling. In spite of my legal background, my observation on what might have been is simple logic, a conclusion that any reasonable mind could derive based on a simple reading of the complaint.
  3. I will put an end to all speculation, as this is not a private matter. Attached is the Complaint filed by Zaxcom in U.S District Court. Because Zaxcom has filed, this is a matter of public record. A review of the complaint indicates that it is not the TA5 or any connector per se at issue, but Zaxcom's patent on "Virtual Wireless Multitrack Recording System". As clearly stated in the complaint, TEAC's product infringed on Zaxcom's patent by including instructions on its use in combination {with a wireless device} that infringes on Zaxcom's patent: "recording systems with instructions for combination and use by end users in a manner such that the recording system and/or method of use infringes one or more claims of the ‘902 Patent." That's it. TEAC allegedly infringed Zaxcom's patent by instructing how the device can be used in combination {with a wireless}. Zaxcom is not alleging that the device itself infringed, rather, the device + instructions for combining infringed. This implies that, had TEAC simply not explained how the device could be used in combination, we might be able to purchase this. Zaxcom Complaint..pdf
  4. Tascam makes an XLR, plug-on version of this. It is available in the US. How about comments on the recording quality of that version?
  5. ?? I thought the Oktava Figure 8 was this. Any difference?
  6. OK, this is a Figure-8 cap I have never seen. Can anybody shed light on this? LDCs?
  7. BBGs or Schoeps W5Ds, but those would separate the caps rather than the cavernous interior of a proper ORTF-style Rycote
  8. Actually, I took 10 min as I just found the thread today.
  9. Armin: I have to disagree with you. I have both the Audix and MBHO caps. They are identical to the size, markings, even the model numbers stamped on the underside. In addition, if you look at the spec sheets for the caps on the MBHO site, you can see that the sensitivity varies on which pre-amp it is paired with. (I'll also note that MBHO has recently removed the hyper spec sheet). From my understanding, Audix makes the pre-amps in the USA and the caps are made by MBHO. It would be very reasonable to expect different sensitivities (specs) when the MBHO capsule is used on a MBHO pre vs an Audix pre. So, in spite of what MBHO told you, all the evidence points to MBHO as the manufacturer, and no evidence, beyond their response, contradicts that conclusion.
  10. I'm surprised nobody has suggested a MK41 cap and a KC5 active cable. You can still have a CUT1, but all the weight can be shifted to the end of the pole with the CMC6 preamp
  11. I wonder if you need to add lube to fit that into the suspension mount.
  12. John Paul: call Shane at 615-504-6550. 2:30 call I could not make that.
  13. Jim: thanks, I sent you a PM. Peter, thanks as well.
  14. I just tried to upgrade to 788T's 3.02 firmware. Started the process, came back a few minutes later to find the screen saying closing media, then it shut off. Its possible the battery ran out of juice. Now, it will not power on at all, even with an AC power supply or new battery. HELP. Have a 4 day gig starting tomorrow AM!!!!!!
  15. Alex: nice and visually neat. What brand and model are these? Thanks
  16. Try anything on these pages that says Junior: http://www.msegrip.com/product/hardware/plates.html http://www.msegrip.com/product/hardware/hangers-holders-brackets.html
  17. Filedmixer: the C-stand risers are junior pins (i.e., the turtle base is a Junior receiver 1 1/8"). You can certainly buy a Matthews or other brand Junior pigeon plate, or any other junior mount.
  18. what are the internal dimesnions of the drawers? been looking for a drawer where I can plop in a divider from a Pelican 1550.
  19. +1 on the Hi-Techs. However, I am getting 10.5 to 11 hours in a 411 or Um400a. P.S. I like how the 2 batts in the 411 have an almost identical runtime as 1 batt in a UM400a. Cheers to Lectro's engineering department.
  20. Poor-mans Zaxcom-like recording function for those already invested in Lectros and G3s. If it truly is a pass-thru with no changes, might be an interesting tool in the bag if the price is low enough. First of many new toys from NAB
  21. Thanks. One other cool functionality on the TC out....If you want a display, you can simply feed the TC to the input on your iPhone and, using one of the free apps from Denecke, Ambient, Timecode buddy, etc read the TC. Even better, use the combo as a mini-slate. Easier, more reliable, but not cheaper than sending TC wirelessly through an old Comtek to your iPhone. But a potential backup system in case your slate fails. In fact, if Mozegear is smart and/or listening, they should come out with their own app....
  22. Its hard for me to believe that nobody here has mentioned that Michael Joly mods these and, in addition to the electronics upgrades, he beefs up the resistance to handling noise. Its a $120 upgrade that makes this a much more usable mic than what some have concluded.
  23. Here is an old Sanken catalog which has all the popular mics, including the 7 & 9. catalog.pdf
