  1. Without having knowledge about how they sound or what their measurements are: - Deity mics in general, they're very affordable and have shotgun options - Behringer?... - Rode NTG4+ - Sennheiser MKE600 - AudioTechnica897 No further ideas.. Plus, make sure to compensate for latency from the PA to mix Position! But it's a really interesting idea after all. What platform/desk does your mixer use for this?
  2. He's actually talking about using the system for remote FOH mixing. But yeah, i'd vouch for a mix between console feed+room mics in this application as well. Or a selectable number of streams via matrices. Then again, remote FOH mixing might just be a bad idea :')
  3. I didn't get any info on this and i didn't ask, it just worked after testing input 1 thoroughly. But this time, i certainly will ask. Probably it's somekind of capacitor/resistor that was bad. Or at least that's what i suspect while being a total electronics n00b. It'd be interesting what Peter's friend's experience was. Any info on this? Did they tell him what was wrong with the recorder?
  4. Hi Peter! Wow.. so this seems to be a recurring issue then huh? Did he get it serviced, or what happened in his situation? I wonder if the 833 just has a worse construction than the 633. Might have to downgrade if this happens one more time.. Best, Martin
  5. So to anyone interested - figured it out. It was the line input on my 833 which was defective.... Jeez. Picture on the left: 1k -20dB sin into channel 6 Right: into channel 5 Not cool, especially since i had the unit serviced already for the exact same occurrence on CH1.
  6. If i may ask... So the FOH mixer will listen to the mix on headphones, right? Or on loudspeakers? If on headphones, i'd wonder wether a pair of omnis with somekind of separation (Absorption) in the middle wouldn't work better, especially for the Bass response. And if i were to mix a show remotely on a known speaker system with a known response, i'd rather get a mix straight out of the console as a main reference. Plus somekind of SPL indication. Since our brain hugely takes our environment that we're in into account, i'm not that sure it would even work that well with just using mics. Mics can't differentiate between direct and diffuse sound, but our ears do.
  7. My bag: - K-Tec Stingray.. Medium? - Sounddevices 833 - Audioroot Smart bats on a custom shoe with TA4/Hirose split output - OPS-Shop Hirose distro - MCR54 + Betso bowties - Ambient boom and Sennheiser 8060 in a Rycote WS3 - DPA4097 plant somewhere - 2x Wisy MTP40s 2x MTP41s - DPA6060 and VT 506 Lavs - Sennheiser IFB transmitter - Mounted on a ZUCA cart Based in switzerland
  8. Hi JWsoundgroup A freelancer of ours recently had a gig recording a panel discussion with 4 people. MCR54 with betso bowties into 833, 2x MTP40s and 2xMTP41s operating in the 650mHz range. One of the transmitters started sounding worse over time. At first, there was slight saturation when talent got loud, after an hour, the signal was all but unusable. Bodypack was mounted on pants at the back, talent wasn't sweaty and the antenna didn't touch the skin directly. MCR54 showed good reception throughout the entire ordeal. After the shoot, said freelancer replaced the mic to see if the mic was faulty. But he got the same distorty sound on the other lav as well. The next day, he let the transmitter run for an hour, but it sounded fine. Setting on the MTP41s was 2wires+bias, gain set the same for the entire shoot. So... any ideas what might be wrong here? I cut out some files from the recording.. At the beginning after 20mins: 18min.mp3 After 40 mins: 40min.mp3 After 50 mins: 51min.mp3 After 60 mins: 60min.mp3 I suspect the battery being bad and influencing the bias power on the transmitter. I'll test thoroughly, but i'm wondering if i should have the TX checked by Wisycom. I'd love to hear some veteran's opinion on this, maybe you instantly recognize the sound. Best and happy recording Martin
  9. Hi everyone! Was wondering if anyone experienced a similar thing. I had a shoot with a newly bought 833, wired 8060 directly to mic1 with phantom on obviously (and set to 48v). After about hour of shooting, the signal gets reeeally crunchy and distorted, i talk to the producer and switch to wireless MCR54 via AES on input 1. Everything is fine again. Since then, the 8060 just won't work on input 1 anymore! It sounds fine first, but after around 20min, the same thing happens. Until all i get is just a distorted mess. I don't have that problem on input 1 with a rode nt5, and the 8060 works fine on all other inputs. I assume this has something to do with phantom power not delivered correctly, and the fact that input 1 is also capable of accepting AES signals. Any ideas? Thanks! Been in touch with sound devices already, they offered to take a look at it very swiftly. test sd 833 micpre1.mp3
  10. Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum, glad to be here. So i bought an 833, and am quite surprised that there are not really good powering options on my eyes. I can't get my hands on a smartbattery-cup with two outputs to Hirose/Ta4. So i'd have to go the route of using a hirose-Ta4 cable, which isn't really supported due to the increased power draw (I wouldn't use onboard charging though). How do you power your 8-Series? Thanks and happy recording - Martin
