  1. Hey Richard. I guess it depends on your taste. But isn't there a limiter as well? If not, I believe a 20:1 ratio will act more like a limiter, which is what you want. I would sit down for a few hours and do some testing.
  2. I have to agree with the others. Never discount your services or gear just because the job is longer or occurs more often. I have several clients that I do work for on a monthly basis, and my rate is usually the same depending on the equipment rental. Once you lower your guns, production can take full advantage of you. Don't let that happen to you.
  3. One point to having any kind of mixer is for gain control. There aren't any knobs on the Tascam. So if you need to quickly raise or lower the volume, a mixer will help.
  4. Wow. This is not good. I suppose we could put together a petition and have our congress look into it. We need to do something though.
  5. I purchased a 7" Lilliput monitor and I love it. I think I paid around $600. It's HD-SDI.
  6. I see they have a couple of Soundcraft LM1 mixers. I bet those sound pretty nice. The only thing about Rasmus is that they do not ship. You have to pick it up. Bummer.
  7. Well, has anyone called him yet?! Someone from this site should call him out on it. Just when I thought things were getting worse.
  8. Here are some specs from the manual: 664: Mic Input is Active-Balanced 552: Mic Input is Transformer-Balanced 664: Mic impedance is 4k ohms 552: Mic impedance is 2k ohms 664: Line impedance is 10k ohms 553: Line impedance is 16k ohms I remember SD telling us that the 664 uses a different type of preamp than the 552. It believe it sounds closer to the 788 preamps.
  9. You can view the reference levels by pressing the Status button, and scrolling to the Audio menu on the camera.
  10. What's a common solder wire gauge for XLR cables?
  11. I've been using the HS-P82 with the controller for 4 months now. I really love it. I use it for cart jobs, and it's extremely easy to navigate the menus. It sounds great, and it has a very small footprint.
  12. This is hilarious. Being a single guy in L.A., I think the women here are not very good.
  13. Just rent both of them for a few days and try them out before you spend the money.
  14. Great to know that Lectro can still convert this. Larry, does the same go for the 6-pack?
  15. Thanks Larry. If I convert to wide band, are there any disadvantages compared to the narrow band?
  16. I have a Lectro Quad Box that is block 21/22. I'm thinking of converting it to wide band. I'm looking to get some feedback from anyone that has converted their systems from narrow to wide. Would I need to adopt a new antenna system?
  17. A few years back, I used the 8050. The one I was using had very high handling noise. Even the slightest movement would create a low rumble noise. Like everyone says, the MKH50 is a very solid mic and sounds fantastic. Have you looked at the 8060?
  18. I was going to let you know I was available. Maybe next time!
  19. Having owned a fold up cart for over a month now, I would like to see a cover that that fits up to the top shelf. And another small section that can be added on for the lift up shelf. Maybe it can have snap buttons all around the edges of both sections. That way, someone can easily snap on the top section for the lift up shelf if needed. So it could be two parts: One for the main cart, and another for the lift up shelf. Also, it would be great if the cover had pockets on the sides to hold extra stuff.
  20. K-tek is amazing. Send it in, and they will ship it back fast. They can also ship it to your set. David Fisk from K-tek is on these forums quite often, and I recommend you talk with him.
  21. Well Rob, it's sad to know that the US Postal Service has been losing loads of money year after year. They are shutting down many offices across the states. There has been talks about them skipping a day in the week to deliver mail. Needless to say, they are very broke!
  22. I just recently saw this product. Not sure how new it is, but it's an 8 channel wide band receiver. Looks pretty interesting. http://www.sennheiserusa.com/em9046
  23. My good friend just finished working a show just like this this one. I think it's called 72. There were 3 camera teams, and 3 audio teams. My friend was the sound sup on it, so he also had a 788 rig to pick up anything that the other guys couldn't. Each team had 3 contestants each, and followed them day and night. The teams even had to sleep outside in tents along with the contestants. From what I was told, it's pretty intense for the audio and camera crews. They traveled all over the world, and had to deal with water, rain, hot sun, and anything else that came along. Imagine hiking and camping each day, along with all of your gear. He told me it was pretty insane.
