  1. I didn't see a single positive post on the Facebook page about this new contract. When asked 65 folks (all who responded) were against it. Any word on whether the new contract will change the number of hours needed to qualify for insurance for retirement? The producers wanted to change it from 400 too 1000 hours a year. And to increase the number of years from 10 to 20 if you didn't already have 10.
  2. I made one of these and it lasted over 10 years until some knucklehead camera dweeb kicked the handle off. The plastic tool box was $30 at Lowe's hardware. The plastic tubes were about $8. And then a couple of bucks for the screws and nuts to hold them together. You can stand on it, sit on it, put your phone, headphones, tape, hat etc inside of it. It is waterproof and has never fallen over in heavy wind (http://photobucket.com/boomcaddie )
  3. Mr. Wexler turned me on to an episode of FRONTLINE called "Sick Around the World" about how 5 democracies deal with healthcare and do a much better job than the USA. Mostly by regulating the ugly profit out of it. The show is available online.
  4. There is an informational meeting about this next "contract" 3/11/12 at Pickwick in Burbank at 8:30 am for locals 44, 80, 728 and 729.
  5. More gear can't replace a human. We have to retain the utility position. The producers have no idea when a third person is needed. We just say NO to this contract. Much negociation is to come.
  6. Has anyone looked at the last page of that stuff on 695 site? IATSE brothers and sisters check this out. This is what the AMPTP is trying to put in the next contract. Time to get angry(er); 6. Pension Plan and Retiree health eligabiltiy; a. lncrease from 400 to 1,000 the number of hours required per calendar year to earn a qualified year in the Pension Plan (and for purposes of retiree health eligability). b. Increase from fifteen (15) years to twenty (20) years the number of years required to qualify for retiree health coverage for those employees who have ten or fewer quaiifying years as of August 1, 2012. This is from 695.com
  7. And when it's collapsed it's around 4 feet long but goes out 18 feet so I don't need 2 poles. I really also like the very thin cable.
  8. My new boomstand / toolbox. Same as the old one for those who have seen it. The old one was over 10 years old & never fell over even in a stiff wind. No need for an apple box and there's lots of room inside for tools etc. The tubes are bolted on. Some green little camera dweeb busted the handle off the old one (I think). The made-in-America toolbox was $30 and the tubes about $5. And that small pole with the rollers is my "Kit Cool" boom support device (not my name for it).
  9. I've had one for about a year now and it has been flawless. Lighter than ktek, stronger and stiffer than vbd.
