  1. By the way, aren't there USB audio devices for iPad/phone?
  2. Of course. If something is not gonna work it's not gonna work. Maybe the USB keyboard idea wasn't the best example (I don't know if there is a hardware limitation or just a different philosophy in general about the device). But maybe we as users con up with some amazing routing solution or whatever, then you can write your own plugin. I think the analogy with a logic/motu combo makes sense. Zaxcom or SD is the combo and a whole bunch of small developers make the plugins. You don't like the idea? Stick with logic and use the stock plugins, fair enough
  3. I'm not thinking about Lectro, but for instance the Nomad; What if the USB connector can be used indeed as a keyboard input or whatsoever? You or a programmer can make a plugin for that. Not working for you or buggy? throw it off again. That's a simple example. Sky is the limit and creativity is the limitation and more of those catch frases. Zaxcom keeps to it's core business, community makes the add ons. Just like iPhone/iPad.
  4. Sure, backup is key then. By the way I was talking about this Ricsonix thing: http://www.ricsonix.com/audioReturnKit.html
  5. Correct on what? You can go IFB Zaxcom return. Over 2.4 no dropouts just signal or not. Shouldn't be a problem when you in real close range of camera. Or get the Ricksonix solution, a couple of 100 dollars for TX en RX. And it's not just dropouts to be worried about of course.
  6. Don't want to reveal your "source", Farr out sound?
  7. Maybe open source isn't the best way, but something like an API possibility, all kind of hooks and loops where, if you want, you can attach some plugins to. Just like we are used from PC based tracking systems like protools and logic. That is working good for years and bad plugins just don't make it to the big audience.
  8. Yeah? You trust a cam op to take care of your responsibility? Sure it can work, but to me it doesn't see right. Of course both benefit from the hop since you don't have the umbilical cord. But still, it's the sound ops responsibility.
  9. So you guys dare to use camera hops without return? That to me is a bit scary, dropouts and all. I presume topic starter is not talking guide track but "real" audio hop.
  10. Yeah open source . If you fire up a nomad you see the whole unix boot riddle coming along. So a smart cookie might just hack the bits and pieces we miss right now right into it. Indeed, just like the magic lantern movement.
  11. Yeah give us more Comparing the dimensions and weight they are indeed quite the same.
  12. Thanks, yes, I know Neumann's solution. Pretty neat. Though, might be a bit too much for bag-work. Sometimes I wish that the Nomads and 700 series of this world where open source or app based like android or iOS devices, and therefore, we can program a piece of software ourself Oh and I'm based in Rotterdam the Netherlands by the way. Thanks for the invite, when I'm in the neighborhood I'll drop by
  13. Farr Out Sound; deleted the post? So not true? Still curious if so.
  14. Hmzz, that's a bit of missed chance... I do like the idea of a bigger BABY ball gag for smaller shotguns like the 8060.
  15. @john: Ah you mean the mono ball gag instead of the baby ball gag... What's in a name
  16. At Tom: so less than a ball gag? At James; what characteristic will that be?
  17. Thanks Simon, I think I'm gonna order one with my 8060. About the baby ball gag; I think the "reach" of the ball is not enough to cover all of the 8060. I do consider buying one of these: http://www.rycote.com/products/miniscreen/ I think this will act as a baby ball gag. Maybe even a bit better since there is foam inside. That combined with a windscreen over it.
  18. I hear it a lot on YouTube. "Forgotten panning". Even on some NAB coverage vids from audio/video dealers. They should know better.
  19. But, but, but... When you extract a pole with internal cable, it's somewhat the same length as an external cable. At least that's what i saw when recently fixing a ambient boom, that the coiled cable is stretched out entirely.
  20. Yes but what are we talking about? In grams of difference right? And in that case every brand might have the same disadvantage between coiled or external. Or one brand provides a lower weight coiled cable than the other, that can be.
  21. Internal or external cable shouldn't really make that much of a difference?
  22. Cool. For translation: like so: http://translate.google.com/translate?twu=1?sl=ja&tl=en&u=http%3A//onpa.no-blog.jp/blog/cat7002508/
  23. You have the nomad, there is that re-record function you can use. That might be an option. Or is that function not "on" yet?
  24. There's only one I know of: http://www.professionalsound.com/specs/sgm1.htm Is that right? That's actually a quite "old" mic. Around for a while.
  25. Sure, I got one since the introduction in '08. Proven to me as a workhorse. The other day I preferred the NTG3 over the 416 again, I had both with me. It wasn't the first time.
