  1. yeah, I feel the price is going to be a bit of a killer too but it looks like a very solid bit of kit so might be worth it in the end!
  2. I've just emailed them to get a price. Will post the info once I get it.
  3. Hi guys I came across the new timecode buddy system which is due for release shortly. Thought I'd bring it to the forums attention for discussion. Amongst other applications, it looks like a brilliant add-on for the SD 552. It will also interface with an ipad/ iphone with a free iOS app which is a pretty cool addition! What I'm really thrilled about it the fact that the master unit has a backlit display screen. Something that's been lacking in other small time code units. If it delivers all the web site promises, I think it will become a rather popular bit of kit to own. http://timecodebuddy.com/ Check it out!
  4. I'm using the Belden 1904A 4 pair cable which has good screening properties but am still in the process of making it so can only try it out next week some time. I am limited to the Neutricon 8 pin connector as that is the only one I have access to but might try the Hirose 10 pin on another cable another time.
  5. Thanks so much Eric. I really appreciate your time and effort. I understand the issue of a possible time code bleed into the audio channels as the signal from the camera is VERY HOT but I just want to try anyway and will report back my findings to you guys. Yours in Audio Sebastian
  6. I have the Belden 4 pair cable and a Neutricon 8 pin. Wish I could get my hands on a Tajimi connector- The best I have ever used but in South Africa, those connectors don't exist. If I mono'd the HP, I could use up all 8 pins. Just don't know the wiring configuration so that the time code signal doesn't bleed into the other channels.
  7. Hi guys I had a look on the Sound Devices website to find the wiring diagram for the 442's XL 10 breakout cable but it doesn't include a time code cable (which would be used for the 552). Does any one know how to wire the Neutricon 8 pin inline connector to accommodate time code. Thanks in advance Sebastian
  8. Good idea to get John at pink Noise involved too.
  9. Eagerly awaiting Glenn's post! This RF spray is doing my head in.
  10. Andy, WHAT A BRILLIANT IDEA!! I will definitely go for that. As you can see from my photo, the QRX looks a bit messy (and get's bumped from time to time too). Design wise, how possible would it be to adapt that idea to fit the QRX? Air vents are probably a good idea as the unit runs quite hot.
  11. I bought an 8 gig class 10 SD card which my 552 rejected. Tried a class 6 and it works well. Not too sure why that was! Also, buy some extra cards just in case. Particularly useful when you are out in the field for a while.
  12. I've just been using the Zaxcom QRX hop (block 25) in most of the major cities of Brazil and haven't had a problem. Like Jack says, all you need is one clean frequency and the scanning function is brilliant at finding one. Also, consider Audio wireless who boast a wide frequency bandwidth for multi country shooting. http://www.audiowireless.co.uk/
  13. Trouble is South Africa/ Africa often get sent the crap that the US and Europe discard! I am all for paying top dollar for SD cards as I can't afford to have problems on a shoot. This brand was the most expensive I could find at the time but clearly I was sold a dummy! I am in Brazil for a few weeks so will hopefully find Sandisk, Lexar or Kingston cards here.
  14. I bought this SD card for my 552 and tried it out but keep getting error beeps and flashing red lights. Naturally I formatted the card in the mixer but after every take I have to turn the mixer off and re-boot. What's been happening is that when the mixer boots up, the orange light goes on for a bit then turns off- meaning the recorder is ready to record. The following take records successfully but then the orange light remains on permanently and when I try to record again, the red light flashes and I hear an audible warning beep. This is when I have to reboot. I have programmed the "stamp file auto record" function (getting time code from the camera via my Zaxcom STA150) so when the cameraman hits record, it automatically activates my recorder. My question is, are the specs of the 8gb class 10 SDHC card incorrect for the recorder as I have another card (Transcend SDHC 4GB class 6) which works just fine. I have the latest firmware in the mixer which I believe was designed to make more SD cards compatible but am confused about this one! I've read that the 552 is a little discerning about which cards it will accept and I have used Ultima pro before (the class 6 version) without incident. Anybody had problems with class 10 cards before?
  15. Nice as it looks, I am in agreement with Jeff. Too fragile indeed!
  16. Ok, with a little more time exploring the options, I found what I was looking for by using the "More Reply Options" facility. Sorted!!
  17. I made these two connectors today by drilling a 4.5mm hole into the side of the connector, soldered the cable to the contacts (this is a little tricky but not too much of an issue) and mixed a clear epoxy with a pigment die and partially filled the connector with the mixture. For identification, I put a printed L and R onto the dried epoxy (aprox 15 minutes after I put in the initial mixture) made up a fresh clear batch and filled in the rest up to the top of the connector. Job took half an hour and looks really cool. Naturally, once the epoxy hardens, that's it for life. There is no repairing it down the line. I applied the same trick to other connectors using casting resin. This worked very well too but takes a bit longer to cure. The finish is a little glossier but the epoxy works just fine. Total cost: about $5.00 and a bit of labour time.
  18. Hi Jeff I am trying to reply to a topic by adding a photo but am having a blonde moment and can't seem to find the upload button. I took a photo with my stills camera, inserted the SD card into the computer and have hit a blank of how to transfer the pic into the post! Please help! Thanks Sebastian
  19. Thanks for that Larry. Much appreciate the info. I'm in South Africa where it costs a home mortgage to ship stuff here so will try make an Dipole coaxial cable from what I can get locally which is the Belden 179DT cable. Hope that works! Now, as the antenna will run horizontally along the belt line I will add a 90 degree BNC adaptor so my receiver antenna will match the horizontal plain. One question, do I do that for both antennae on my Lectrosonics 411a's or will one suffice?
  20. It seems as though this problem applies to all body worn transmitters (in my case I am using the Lectrosonics 400UM's)- that the body blocks RF. I try to put the transmitter on the side of the body as a general rule so the receiver can "see" the antenna. However as we all know, putting it on the side is not always possible so it either goes in the front pocket (better but visually seldom acceptable unless the wearer has baggy trousers) or on a belt/ trousers or skirt in the small of the back (not so good). This is where I pick up problems. Obviously in close proximity that is never an issue but I do a lot of "walk and talk" interviews so there is often distance involved in the equation therefore challenging the RF boundaries and this leads me to my question: Can one extend the TX antenna (like one does with a 1/4 inch wave coaxial dipole cable for the receiver- see as an example http://www.bhphotovi...al_Antenna.html). My plan is to make a long SMA antenna for the transmitter so that it can be put behind the back but have the antenna curved round (tucked into the trousers/ skirt/ shorts/ belt etc) so that the "business end" of the antenna is in the front so the body doesn't block the RF. Would this work??
  21. I've heard that the first production run is currently underway. Looking forward to hearing the reviews.
  22. Anyone played around with these new wireless mic's? They look interesting! Not sure of the cost though but will be dropping them an email soon. http://www.audiowireless.co.uk/news/audio-wireless-announces-new-radio-microphone-systems
  23. Hey Jon, I would like to come see your system. I've been toying with the same idea. What monitor are you using? I found these monitors and they look fantastic. http://www.smallhd.com/Products/DP4.html
