  1. I ordered up a few of these and they are working quite well. The flap covers the power switch and leaves the volume and phones jack open yet protected as they sit below the back of the case. Fit is a tad tight, but should loosen up and fit perfectly. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003O37E2C
  2. Matthew, Sent you a PM, I live in the area and can bring some gear over to help test things out. Happy to help troubleshoot with you. I've had next to zero issues with my 900LT's unless I'm being stupid... Joel
  3. Sent in my donation for this year, this site has some of the best resources I've found and honest advise to someone new to the business. A big Thank You to Jeff and all the contributors!
  4. I tried the Porta AO-4 and the new Petrol PS607 bags, the fusion fit but there was constant pressure on the DB-25 connector for the outputs, and the battery was a PITA to change on both bags. Wouldn't recommend either unless you want to cut & sew. I ended up with the Petrol PG602 bag, everything fits and no pressure on the DB-25 connector, battery swaps fine or there's a nice spot for an external NT1 on the back of the bag.
  5. Give it a listen, if you feel you can fix it just give her a estimate of the hours for your time to "fix" it - if it's even fixable. Make sure to note that it's not a fixed price, it will vary based on the actual hours required to bring it up to spec. You might make more to fix it than the original gig would have paid.
  6. Not trying to say it's the best option, was just trying to help the OP for what I've used successfully. As I mentioned, test and re-test to make sure it's working the way you expect.
  7. Set the RED input(s) to line and 0dB, set your mixers tone output to -20dB, then adjust output levels on your mixer so the green bar on the RED's audio meter meets the white vertical line on that channel. If it's a dynamic scene, I usually set it a tad lower for safety. YMMV, there are some pretty beat up RED's out there. This snip is from page 122 in the 30.5 red ops manual:
  8. Ok, you still go through the primary A/D converter for either line or MIC settings, but the rest of the mess is bypassed in LINE mode - according to the engineers at RED I've spoken with. If I had the 6 extra hours to search through REDUSER, it's in there as well.
  9. That white line is the unity level, or 0dB on the RED and above that it goes yellow. There's supposed to be another 18dB of headroom available from 0dB, so I'd hazard a guess there was something funky on that RED's audio board and it should be sent in for repair. PAD's are almost never needed anymore, unless it's a really old RED (look at the serial number on the bottom) or ask the owner, they should know if the audio board is the old rev A, or the new rev B board. A quick way to find out if it's the new B board is to enable the 48V phantom power on the lines and power cycle it. If it retains the 48V settings it's a new rev B board, if they change to non-phantom power, it's an old REV-A board and you need the -4dB PAD cable. You get funky results if you use a PAD cable on the new board... Joel
  10. Owning a RED and working with it for a while, I thought I'd chime in. First, the RED records at 48k/24bit, no other settings exist. If you send line level, and set the RED to line input (you have to verify 48v is disabled) you basically bypass all the audio pre-amps and board components and record the signal direct to the file. If you set the RED to Mic input, you are now enabling all the audio pre-amps and related components off the audio boards to pass the signal through before it gets to the file. Unless it's a Mic direct into the camera, I set up or request line level inputs as it's always been better quality than Mic level. Here's where I get my menu guides to be able to find everything (about half way down the page): http://www.octamas.com/red-one.php To set a RED up for line level input on 30.5 (or many previous builds) the order of the steps is important: [list type=decimal] [*]Press System button [*]stick 2 to the left and press stick down to select Sound menu [*]stick 2 right and press down on 48V MIC [*]press the stick to uncheck all these, move stick left/right to go to the next one [*]Press Exit [*]Press System button [*]stick 2 to the left and press down to select Sound [*]press down stick on REC Enable [*]pick which channels your using and twist to select Line [*]uncheck any channels your not using [*]Press Exit [*]press Video button [*]stick 2 to the right and press down to select Audio [*]Then click to enable your channels and set these to Line and 0dB (10dB if a tape input) this is unity for the RED [*]send -20dB tone from your mixer - Important must be -20dB! [*]adjust mixer output so the green bar from the tone touches the vertical white bar on the channel meter on the RED LCD (or a bit less just in case) [*]Explain to the camera op "don't touch anything related to "Sound" or "Audio", test, re-test. If you don't turn off the 48v, your stuck in Mic input mode but it might look like your at line levels... Once your more familiar with the red menu system, you can skip the "press exit" and just up-stick to change menus. I still press exit just to make sure things stick. If something isn't working right, repeat these steps to find out what the camera op changed Joel
