  1. just watched the trailers, they both seem great... we just never hear about or get release of these types of films down under..
  2. I lurk, mostly, and thank you all. Mostly I am too busy to reply to the forums because most of you have relpied before I get a chance! After 28 years in the business, I am still learning, and much of this comes from this site. Thanks Jeff for hosting and all of the meners for your contributions. Seasons Greetings.
  3. Also join us on the Australian sound recordist and boom operators facebook page, lot's of local contacts, gear and info
  4. Very happy with swit, been using them for 10 years, Also look at battery bud, very good, cables enter from the bottom of the unit, very tidy http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/687520-REG/Cable_Techniques_CT_BB_002_Battery_Bud_II_Portable.html
  5. Hi, yes. It works fairly well, though not quite enough storage room for 'stuff'...here's a pic. Nice and tidy and light (4.5 kg). semi open ends make access good, easy to open media door. Np1 nestled in front of and slightly under 633, not in the battery space.
  6. I'll start. Filming a story on Pandas in China for a science show. 6 hours hiking through the jungle, radio tracking the first captively bred Panda, released into the wild. Fully grown male, 80kg or so... Side of a bamboo covered mountain, raining, hot, very tired now...ranger says...'it's over here', as the rest of the team leap down a small cliff to where they thought the panda was... As I hear next to me in the bamboo a funny squeaking noise, and the panda waddles out of the undergrowth, wraps it's paws around my leg and gives me a cuddle! 'Over here i say' patting it on the head with one hand, holding my boom in the other and no way to reach my camera in my mixer bag! The others arrive, and filming ensues, not a single shot of me of course... Amazing! https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152524312540835
  7. HI all I've been meaning to post this for a while. We know we have the most amazing job, with access to wonderful people, amazing experiences and beautiful places...but sometimes there is a back story. Post your amazing tales, tall but true... You can simply recall an event, or post a pic,
  8. Hi Bob, exactly 5kg with tx and lapels, tape and 4x 9 volt i power, hd 25, waist belt and petrol harness. I'm fiddling with somwhere to put sennheiser g3 tx for ifb..and will probably use petrol pocket (with outside slot thingy) to add third Lectro 411 when needed. I'm really happy with it
  9. No = my attitude adjuster... It's tight and not much room for talent tx and stuff, but it's half the size, and has taken 2kg off compared to our 552 rigs. It will get me through 95% of the work that i do. I carry another radio mic kit in my on set bag, and put it in if needed. SRB would be ideal in this rig...but that means $$
  10. the Hawk woods v lock slot brackets are good, just finished a shoot with a red epic, and has d tap and hirose outputs too http://www.hawkwoods.com/products/details/details.php?code=vl-rm6w&mainMenuItemToSlide=5&asi=vl-100&asi2=pc-3
  11. My office last week, 300km east of Coober Pedy, on a cattle station the size of Belgium...middle of nowhere, Australia.
  12. An 816 in a fluffy and blimp are great in high wind, though a tad unwieldy... if you can't get it on that, then the shot is wide enough to do wild lines and edit them in post.
  13. Go Justin, though the best prize seems just to be there...one day..
  14. that's great, thanks so much. Fabulous shot...and they are so SHINY!!!!
  15. Hi, I was wondering if anyone can post some pics of a fisher boom mounted in the greenbeds/parralells/gantry? And possibly in use during a show. Our network may be doing a a sit com, but we have always operated from the floor. Thanks, Gav
  16. Did you follow me Jason, the sepik is amazing, wewak and aitapae so beautiful...
  17. BTW, my time on the second trip was in the hides gas fields, near the porgera gold mine, run by Oil Search, an australian company
  18. Hi, been there twice, each time for 5 weeks. the second time filming a tribal war,,,two people dead in the time we were there and our facility put into lock down when armed fighters invaded the compound. As Bwilson said. Good advice. stay inside at night, Hagen is crazy dangerous, as is moresby. Try to get a local driver...essential. A mini bus driver ran into a 4wd full of expats while we were there. Deaths on the mini bus and the expats medivaced to Australia. The locals burnt down the drivers house...and you ceratainly don't want to hit anyone...payback is the law...and people sleep and walk on the roads, centimetres from trucks and vans. Google tribal frontier,,, radios i used were 800mhz ish sennheiser trip 1 and 550 mhz ish lectro. There isn't much intereference up there, save comms towers and the radios the mining companies use. Pm me, it's a fabulous place, beautiful and the people are wonderful, but it can be very violent.. Have fun
  19. a singlet or t shirt underneath costume works well too
