  1. Yeah similar story here. Cab pulled away before I realized what had happened. This was after 2 hours of sleep, a long day on set and perhaps one too many wrap drinks. Stupid.

  3. Hi guys, I recently lost a large pelican case full of equipment in the city in the back of a taxi cab. I've been working with the police and taxi commission to try and track it down, but so far no luck. I'll spare you the gorey and embarassing details, but I figure it might help to post here in case anyone sees or hears anything. From the following list I'm sure you'll understand that its been a dark few days. Sound Devices 788T - Serial #JC0109272003 Lectrosonics UCR-411 - Serial # 13281, 16295 Lectrsonics SRA - Serial #100146 Lectrsonics SMDA and SMQv - Serial #1112, 1113, 1126, 2384 Sanken COS-11s - Serial #131787, 130300, 131896, 115242 Sanken CS3e - Serial #2756 Cables, Batteries, Accessories, etc. Everything was in a black Pelican 1650 with padded dividers and lid organizer.   4. Yes mine is showing a similar kind of wear but much more widespread. My Invision shock mount seems to be what is causing the damage.
  5. Hey all, The powder coating on my CS3e has begun to chip off revealing bare metal underneath. I tried contact Sanken to see if the mic could be recoated, but so far no response back. Anyone had similar problems or have experience having a mic repainted? Thanks, Jesse
  6. Hey all, So I have been thinking about joining CAS and wanted to query the current members out there. It seems like a cool organization, focused on education and recognizing our fellow soundies. I'd also love to connect with some more post-sound heads in NYC and thought this would be a great opportunity to do that. Yea? I am curious about dept designation. On the application you must choose either production OR post-production sound. I happen to do both, but have found myself gravitating more towards post over the past few years. I wanted to see what the consequence, if any, there was to picking one over the other? I have my five years of confirmable credits, but I'm realizing that none of NY guys I know well (besides Rich Topham of Pro Sound) is a current member. So I'm grasping at who to ask to sponsor me. I'd love any insight. Thanks in advance, Jesse
  7. @philip I'll agree that the 416 is not the best sounding VO mic out there, especially in comparison to a U87. If you need something that can tangle on location though, it should not be left out of the mix. I just don't think a U87 would provide enough isolation. Ultimately it all comes down to the right mic/preamp combo for that VO artist's voice and what is best for the project. I might pick a different combo for a movie trailer vs. a film narration, etc.
  8. Hey Doug, I would add the MKH-416 to this list. Not my favorite mic for booming, but you'll find it in any Hollywood studio worth it's salt. It sounds great as a VO mic. Might translate nicely for your application, as long as your recording locations aren't too 'verby. Best, Jesse
  9. Rachel, I've been working on a documentary about the ocean for about the past year. I've been recording to a 788T/SSD and have yet to have problems and I've been unexpectedly drenched to the bone a number of times. Here's a few other things that have helped: -Bring a rain cover like the one Petrol makes. I use the smaller, non-poncho one because it keeps me cool and still covers gear. -Bring rubbing alcohol or distilled water aboard. You're gonna want to wipe down gear at the end of every day. -Brush your softie/windjammer every day. The salt spray will cause it to matte up terribly. -Bring dry bags and unlubricated condoms for transmitters. -Protect the connection from your boom to your coiled cable. I run my 788T, CL8, two 411s and an SR off one of these 13,000 mAh beasts http://www.all-battery.com/li-ion18650148vrechargeablebatterypackpcbprotectionwith18awgbareleadscustomize.aspx Works beautifully and gives me way beyond a full days worth of juice on a single charge. I tested and was able to record 8 ISOs + wireless for 10 hours straight. The only downside is you have to wire-em up yourself for BDS or otherwise. Hope this helps. Cheers, Jesse www.jfasound.com
  12. Hey all, Thanks for all the messages and advice. I ended up making two hydrophones, one an SM57 in a condom and secured with waterproof tape, on as Nick mentioned, old lav glued into a bouncy ball. The bouncy ball ended up being buoyant, so I am gonna attach some weight and give it another try. I made some very nice recordings of Humpbacks with the SM57 today though.
