  1. I saw them (but did not hear them) at AES in Oct. They are much smaller than they appear in the promotional photos and such.
  2. I've done lots of the those type gigs, live-switched to tape, webcast + an in-house audience.. w/Q&A to make things even more interesting). I ALWAYS used a console type mixer and mixed on the fly with the main faders and sent a pre-fader feed to the house PA, or had a very competent FOH operator with every mic split. Unless I misinterpreted something, how they gonna webcast live with DSRLs Yes, let us know what transpires.
  3. As Senator said, "it WAS recently discussed here" but probably on the 'old' JW forum. That said, since you state the file is 'there', but will not open, most likely the TOC headers were not written or corrupted With problematic files like that, I change the file's extension to <.raw> and 99% of the time it will open in Sony's Sound Forge Pro. I don't know if Audacity or what other app.s will open a *.raw file. If you can't find an app, Upload it to Dropbox or other file depository and I'll give it a shot.
  4. Yes indeed Phil, I should have mentioned to get submission specs from a network or producers when delivering for broadcast. (which I do) My preferred program levels for DVDs and BD are for non-broadcast projects and when not specified otherwise.
  5. AFAIK, for stereo mix broadcast submissions, -20dBFS ref. level with program peaks not exceeding -10dB still apply. (at least in NYC) LKFS metering levels are most important for broadcasters, who should adhere to the CALM act. (which has a little to do with acquisition recording...except for the obvious) There does not seem to be any 'standard' audio level for DVDs and BDs, though I would not suggest peaking it to 0.0dBFS and hammering it peak limiting for sake of louder than then so and so, like in a music CDs. I generally master DVDs to get an RMS level of -25 to -27dB with peaks not exceeding -6.0 dB, though I will certainly get LKFS metering software before the next project.
  6. I used a pair of PCC-160s on a music show once where the piano lid 'absolutely positivity' had to be closed. I taped the 160s' under lid and was surprised how good it sounded. I liked it so much I bought a pair, but rarely used them, and subsequently sold them. They are much bigger and heavier than the Cubs, so their usage may be limited, such as attaching to an automobile sun-visor.
  7. Please Indulge us Mark. The particular operation I recorded was for a company, that manufactured the implant. A 'pump up' type device, which was also demo'd later from a previous procedure.
  8. That's what I did on an penile implant operation. Worked great. It was a few years ago, but I don't recall any clothing noise issues. I also had a HC plant mic out of frame to pick up other sounds.
  9. Secret weapons: Sescom IL19s, other than those, I usually carry a DI, a small 'line check' amp/speaker, XLR gender benders, XLR<>TRS, 1/8", RCA, BNC, adapters. Something to amuse myself whilst waiting around.
  10. Yes, it sure is. If i'm given a h.264 MP4, I will render a more CPU friendly 'proxy' (or 'Intermediary') to work from. A Cineform MPEG-2, AVI, or Avid DNxHD/MOV works well in my 'Windows' environment.
  11. In my 'studies' and experience, I would concur with the esteemed SENATOR Mike. Unfortunately, we can't have the best of both battery worlds yet... at least on 'Planet Earth'
  12. ... and in an Andy Rooney (rip) type voice.. "and why is it, they always ask for a 'demo reel', resume, and other "major movie credits" when they're budgets are so low".
  13. 'Sanyo Eneloop' The same goes for the Rayovac 'Hybrid', they don't offer the highest capacity, but can be charged way ahead of time without worries of self-discharge. BTW, which Lectro's run on AAs?
  14. A few months ago I got a 'White River Fly Shop Rod Tube' from Bass Pro Shops- Real nice! "1000 denier Cordura® material over a tough PVC protective tube. These lightweight, airplane friendly rod tubes are outfitted with YKK zippers, and are lined with nylon for additional padding." 6 sizes, from 29" to 60" (2.5" id) ($23-25 cheap) See this and other posts on the boom pole cases from a few months ago: http://jwsoundgroup....__fromsearch__1
  15. I occasionally use the Tape out with a TA3 to 1/8" cable and that works and sounds fine on my H2's line-in. There's no way the Zoom's input stage can handle the output of the XLR without some kind of attenuation.
  16. What do you mean by "visualize"?... in terms of a timeline waveform display? If so, why? If you mean a TC numerical readout, I don't think Reaper will display that, unless it starts @ 00:00:00:00. Otherwise you would need a reader of some sorts. Some Avid NLEs can read LTC directly from a file and place it correctly on the timeline. Waveform example: Trk.1 is program audio.. Trk.2 is LTC.
  17. I have a Olsen-Windtec (US-2, I think) that has an open-cell inner core that works good on my SD condensers. it's available for different diameter mics. Probably very similar to the Shure. http://www.olsenaudio.com/special.html
  18. Indeed, "just about every musical dealer on the planet." Unless Steve wants something other than the venerable A55M or A53M. The later fits the SM81 and other similarly sized SDC mics. Both have the standard mic stand 5/8" configuration.
  19. I move the 2nd end clip to the center position on the Invision 7 frame. (using a Allen key wrench) However even with the clips at either end it would still fit, even with a small windscreen. Isolation may be reduced a bit though. I spose' one could clip one end to the XLR too. As a second.. or back-up, I have a Shure A53M Iso mount (w/5/8" > 3/8" adapter) which fits the mic perfectly and offers decent isolation as well as a lower profile... not as good isolation as the Invision though.
  20. I had bought an Invision 7 for an AT4073a mic, but it works well with 012 too. Even better if I have time to reduce the hanger spacing..
  21. I'm trying to save my few remaining brains cells.
  22. I mainly use and prefer FTP accounts for different clients on my website server. However a few clients are.. shall we say.. 'technically challenged'. That's when I resort to web based file sharing like the aforementioned 4Shared or Dropbox.
  23. I've been using 4shared.com lately.10GB / 2048 MB max file upload. = free Both accessible via FTP or yo' favorite browser. Free: Total storage space:10GB Maximum single file size: 2GB Pay: Total storage space:100GB Maximum single file size: 5GB www.4shared.com/features.jsp
  24. How about production's renting 3-day/week sound packages and have PAs run them. 'Putting a wire on someone looks easy, and a monkey can hold a boom pole'. This happens all the time too, as I'm sure we are all aware of.
  25. Let us not forget last year's (NY Metro area) Fox / Cablevision standoff, which conveniently coincided with the MLB playoffs.
