  1. I guess its kind of a dubble edged sword: You get great range because they're so sensitive, but that also makes them pick up unwanted close proximity stuff. The new 54-series has a 32-mHz filter that mutes most stuff outside of your chosen channels, while still being wideband. It helps a bit.
  2. Interesting. What bag are you using currently Rado? Last I heard you had some custom version.
  3. For the last few years my main setup has been a bunch of 5212-2s into MCR54s and I got to say its working great. I was using Sennheisers own EK6042 receivers before, but with the MCR54s Im actually getting slightly better range. Compander wise they sound identical, to me, on any practical level. And getting 4 receivers in the same package is just a killer feature. To me, Sennheisers digital line up of txs hasnt really got any compelling features other than "Digital audio". Wisycoms 60/61 txs are much more feature packed, so that is what Im looking at in the future. Mungo - Is there really a limiter packed in the 5212-2s that is always on? I cant find any info on that. But I wouldn't be surprised since I've basicly never got them to clip. All in all - 2 thumbs up for the 5212-2 + MCR54 combo.
  4. Thank you. Yes, I'm aware of that setup. My question was very much focused on the competitions, where the lavs are submerged in water. Especially the Australian version since they have that special rigg in the buffs around their necks. I think naked and afraid have lavs in the shoulder straps of their bags, but probably a bunch of booming aswell. But I have not worked on it so others here may know more about that.
  5. Thank you for the insight. I recognise most of the stuff but Im a bit curious about these bits, what, more specifically, is a "hydrophobic treatment" that would not muffle the sound on the lav? I'm just thinking whatever is stopping the wind, once wet, is no longer stopping wind but rather stopping the sound instead. But I guess that's what the "water phobic" covering is for? And yes, I've seen that interview with Kiff, definitly one of the best Ursa-episodes!
  6. Hi Does anyone have any insight how they are rigging the lavs during competition on Survivor Australia? I get that they have both the Tx and the mic hidden in the buffs around the necks, but how are they waterproofing and wind proofing them? I mean, they are taking such a beating, including lots of full submerging in water, and still sounding pretty good. Thanks / Rasmus
  7. Yeah, me too. Most of my dual-system-gigs I record Isos post fade and no mix track. I guess this Mixer-series might not be able to do Post fader isos, even in the future, but at least being able to control the trims would make it much more interesting. Still, great work as usual, Sound Devices :).
  8. Good to know :). Could there be any harm done charging batteries of higher capacity, say Pro Eneloops 2500 or Powerex 2700? The manual says to use batteries with "Max 2450 Mah", that's the cause of my hesitation. I emailed Ikea for a answer to this too, waiting for reply still.....
  9. Yeah, something like that could definitily be the case. Just half e second of loss of power would reset it. And yes, it hade been working fine for weeks with the same batteries. But I'm still puzzled what would lead it to lock up, or freaze like it did. The display still lit up but all numbers just freaze. Very weird. Could that really be down to bad batteries?
  10. Hi! I've been using a tiny Lockit to jam a 633 with a Sony XDCAM, leaving it on the cam throughout the day, running on rechargeable AAAs. It's been working fine the last 5 weeks, but this weekend it started acting weird. First when I went to re-jam it at lunch I saw it ha restarted the clock, and was not following my time of day anymore. I went back and checked the footage and it had basicly been in sync with me for an hour or so and the suddendly at the next clip the time code had started from zero again. Batteries was still charged and it was running. Then yesterday when I was jamming it with the 633, it jammed, ran for a fem seconds, and then i froze, display and all. happened a few times. I let it rest for a bit going wired TC since we were doing interviews. A few hours later I fired it up again and it seemed to run fine. I swapped the rechargables to regular AAA just in case it had to do something with the Voltage. Anybody know whats going on? I've never encountered this before. Just send it back to the shop or...?
  11. Have you tried charging other batteries in the IKEA-charger?
  12. Well, as the pole colapses, the interior space will get tighter and tighter, while the cable will basically do the opposite :P. So the limit is basically how much cable you can have crammed in the pole when it's fully collapsed.
  13. I've waited a long time for Sennheiser to finally get their thumb out of their #%€ and make 2 channel receiver. This sure looks like it's gonna be great, but I fear the 9000-compability will make it a very expensive unit. I hope they will bring a version out, just for analouge txs, but I doubt it.
  14. Thanks. Sucks though, I got Tapa talk just for this forum. Hope it works out in the end :).
  15. Hi I having no luck the last month reading this forum on the Tapa Talk App. Anybody got any idea what might be the problem? Anyone having the same experience?
  16. Tentacle worked great on set today (only had to use one of them). Camera guy was very impressed and happy. Hope post shares his enthusiasm :).
  17. Really cool device, love then idea! No swappable battery and 2 hours charge time otoh, kills it for me. That's a dealbreaker right there. Not buying.
  18. Good idea. I was planning of using the Tentacle as master and jamming the 633 to it, but I guess doing it the other way would also work, just need to get the cables in order for that. Thanks. How about input gain in the dslr? To my knowledge most of them only have automatic gain, but might this actually work anyway since the TC signal is so constant and steady? Or is manual gain control the only way to go?
  19. Yeah, thats a good idea. OTOH, I'm a bit weary of putting to many connectors and adapters on that crappy little 3.5 m.m. input of the camera. Well, it's a possibility for the future, this time I'm going only TC, as requested. No way? I've never heard that, pretty cool feature :).
  20. Well, they are using a dslr that has no dedicated TC-input. And they didn't want a scratch track "Just sync TC", so I don't see that there is another way really. But what do you mean "no playback". Surely you can play back the clips, there will just be no audio there. Or rather, just the sound of TC.
  21. Sorry, to specify, I meant the iOS App, as in, when I leave my house I won't have access to a computer to change the settings anymore since the iOS App for the Iphone isn't available yet. Well that's the thing, I would like to sync 1 up to my 633 and then put it on the dslr. With the iPhone App I could simply change the gain in between, but since it's not up yet I was wondering if there was a middle ground level to be able to use here. However, I could also set one to mic and one to line, just sync those two and attatch to cam and mixer. Just realised that :). Anyway, sure will be nice when the iPhone App arrives :). Still, anybody tried them out IRL yet?
  22. So I guess most folk who ordered the Tentacles, like me, have got them by now. They're looking real great, but has anyone had time to try the out on location yet? I got a dslr-shoot coming up where I thought I'd try them out, but I haven't done TC to audiotrack before, and since the app isn't up yet I really want to be sure they are set properly before I head off. Mainly it's the level I'm thinking about. Mic level into dslr I guess, but with the Tentacle output all the way at Mic level, my 633 can't seem to read the TC at all. If I set it somewhere in the middle my 633 can read the Tentacle, but will that be enough for a dslr? Or is level not such a big deal as long as it's not distorted in this case? Thanks :).
  23. Ok, seams like "atleast three day" would have to be more like in the 40 hours or so. No no. That's one shooting day. That's 9 - 10, maybe 11 hours. So it'll be a max of 33 hours for three days. Then either I swap them out or there's maybe another half day in them. So 37-40 hours in real life seems like a good number. That's exactly what I said.
