  1. Thanks Mike & Angelo. Never seen them in the flesh but good to hear they are well made units...might take the plunge at some point.
  2. Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has had any hands on experience with the Nagra SD? Looking to purchase one as a small and quick rig for stereo ambiances and also as a small backup recorder on doc's along side a 302 in case the 664 bursts into flames or takes a bullet or some such disaster...
  3. That "Who needs a movie" movie from the Spencer's just blew my mind.
  4. That looks amazing Pascal. Did you machine the aluminum as well?
  5. Those Mini TX look nice. The remote control is a nice option, but I would hate having to use a remote control to change settings on those though. Remote controls like to get lost in my experience...
  6. The faders do seem to have less resistance than my 442 for example. It seemed strange at first because I was used to the stiffer fader but I'm happy with them now, its easier to adjust the multiple faders with one hand for example which is nice.
  7. Currently have my 664 jammed into a Pegz1 as well. Only problem really is the near impossibility of getting the card flap open. Maybe I'll get the scissors out....
  8. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Diego I like the looks of that one, 2 inches smaller width wise than the one I was looking at which is a bonus. Those wrist wearable ones seem like they could be good but definitely are expensive for keyboard prices! That and I would feel like a data entry cyborg.
  9. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a very, very small usb keyboard for use in a bag? I was looking at these which are about 9 inches wide: http://www.cyberguys.com/product-details/?productid=7599 But I still feel like there must be some other smaller options out there....
  10. No problems to report but just for general info I'm using Transcend Premium 400x CF cards without any problems so far.
  11. Yes, I noticed the same on mine. I think someone else mentioned it in the big 664 thread as well. Seems to be a common problem but I'm sure they'll fix it on the next update.
  12. Another vote here for Sorel. They are fantastic winter boots and not expensive for the level of quality. I've worn them in -30ish (Celcius) temperatures up here in Canada and been fine. They have the temperature ratings for their boots on the website so you can see what will suit you. They're are a few rated down to -75 Celcius if you really want to be toasty!
  13. Hey Derek, I have the 14 volt BPU style batteries made by Global Media Pro which I use for powering my bag. They're not Sony brand but pretty sure there almost an exact copy in terms of the locking mechanism and connection pins. For whats it worth they wont fit on my 744t as they are wider than the slot there but never tried them on a ext battery sled for the SR's...
  14. As a Canadian, Im also very happy with our health system to date. Sure, there are waiting times and inefficiencies, but overall I think the idea of universal health care is very important!!
  15. hahaa yes I saw that. The wonders of google translate gone wrong I think. Hard for this 4Minx to compete with the Nomad I suppose based on the pricing (amongst other differences) but I like to investigate new machines!
  16. I like the look of this machine - but the fact that it only records to one SD card makes me a bit nervous! Am I just being paranoid or is that valid.... I realise you can plug in a USB stick or EXT drive but for over the shoulder work that still doesn't seem ideal. Anyone actually using these?
  17. Thanks to those that responded, Ive passed on your details to the producer so hopefully they get in touch. Neil
  18. Hi guys, A producer Ive worked with a few times is asking if I know anyone based in Northern Germany for a couple days work next week. Anyone from that region on here? I used to live in London so have a few friends there that could make the journey but I assume they're trying to save some cash and find someone local. Rate I believe is $650 US for a 10 hr day. Mostly just one on one interviews and B Roll, nice and easy! All the best, Neil neil.mcint@gmail.com
  19. Hey Pascal, I just received 4 of these along with the 2 bay chargers a couple weeks ago and have been very happy so far. I've also used Global Media Pro NP1s in the past which I never had any problems with. I wouldn't recommend using the dtap really as its not locking, in my opinion your better off getting a locking battery sled with a flying lead to your battery distro. Hawk Woods makes one for these which Im ordering via Trew in Toronto.
  20. On the topic of alternative recorders, what about the Sonosax sx62r?? Anyone using one of these? They look like great machines. Unbelievably expensive compared to other options, but with lots of knobs & buttons which is always a big plus for me...
  21. Didnt see your post before Jim. I do feel like the receiver that shows higher signal is getting less range but I havent done any proper tests. I do mix the antennas around though.
  22. I'll have a look at the software version Greg hadnt thought of that... Sounds like you've confirmed my suspicions though Witney! They're in need of a little TLC anyways and starting to show there age but I still love them !
  23. Hi guys, I've got a pair of lectro 211's and when I scan the frequency spectrum with them one of the units consistently picks up much more noise across the spectrum then the other. Both are on block 26 and swapping the location of the receivers doesn't seem to make any difference. Any ideas why this might be ? Should I be sending this grizzled war veteran of a receiver in for a service? Neil
  24. Hi guys, just thought I'd chime in with regards to the original post. Im also a dual citizen - Canadian/British - and just moved back to Toronto a couple months ago after roughly six years over in London. There is tons of work in London - it is a major media hub, though as has been mentioned it will be tricky to start out without contacts etc. but that applies in any city really. Its a great base to see other parts of Europe as everything is so close over there (relative to distances here in North America) and you'll probably end up getting work on productions that travel around Europe too which is good bonus. Anyhow, I had an amazing time living over there and very much recommend making use of that passport if you can. Just make sure you have enough money saved up to be able to survive when you start out!
  25. But I happen to like this one!! Maybe I just get used to the 8hr trans-atlantic commute. ;-)
