  1. Thanks so much Bob, and I agree, everyone is lovely on here (unlike the majority of the worlds forums!) and I am tremendously grateful for all of the information and feedback I have received. Also, I did forget to mention that the bathroom is meant to be in a nightclub in the film, therefore there is dance music in the background (low passed I imagine) that gets louder and full spectrum every time the door is opened. Hopefully if nothing else this will be my saving grace! Thanks to you all for helping me out, Pip.
  2. Absolutely! Thanks Robert that would be great! I'll upload it when I get home. Thanks mate, Pip.
  3. I don't really know how I can be any more descriptive. I had the feeling maybe it was interference from the radio signals of surrounding boats but am not sure as I have never used radio mics before.
  4. Hi guys! thank you for all your help, the recording went pretty well considering it was my first job ever! It was a short film shot in a very reverberant bathroom, dialogue between two people. I had a lot of trouble with one mic in the beginning. I had no 'fuzzy' for the lapels unfortunately so kept getting this sort of high end crackle in the mic, sort of like a white noise static! I still cannot confirm what caused this as it didn't really sound like clothing rustle. I was wondering if this is acceptable, it's not that bad and mainly occurs when there is no dialogue being spoken. Can post generally get rid of something like this? All in all it was pretty nerve wracking but extremely enjoyable! Hell, i was even made an extra in the film as they were short of people!
  5. Hey guys, today I landed my first job recording dialogue for a short film. Basically I have to record a conversation which breaks out into a fight scene. It is to be recorded on a boat, in a bathroom for the most part. Can anyone give me any tips/workflow methods as I have little idea of where to start! - What is the best method for the sort of scene? - Will I require lav mics or is a boom the best option? - Will the reverb of the bathroom force me out of using my 416 and into choosing a different mic? - Help! Cheers, Pip.
  6. Oleg, I don't even think I would have enough to purchase these coffees and lunches after the plane ticket! I'd have to take up busking, and trust me I wouldn't earn much!
  7. I have looked at that book before. I'm now ordering it as we speak Thanks mate. Mark, thanks so much for that extensive list. It's amazing how dedicated and helpful people are on this forum! I will be sure to look for some of those titles next time i'm in the campus library!
  8. Hey guys, I am sure this has been covered before on here but I was wondering if anyone could tell me their process for working on a shoot. I am really new to this area of audio (I recently had a lecture from a soundie at SAE where i'm studying audio and was inspired so much so that I am starting a company with a friend) and need to learn the ins and outs before I try my hand at it! Any advice at all is much appreciated. Cheers, Pip.
  9. Ahh I see.. I was thinking it probably is the best bet now that I realise I may be working on a few indie films in the coming months
  10. Nice one Looks like I am going to have to order one. Thanks so much to everybody who has replied to my questions, you have all been a great help to me! I'll be sure to make the most of this forum in the years to come Cheers, Pip.
  11. Sorry, i wasn't speaking ill of it, I am just going by what I have read as I have never used one before.. Has anyone on here used a 552? Pip.
  12. I understand it comes down to personal preference but what are people's thoughts on this? Does straight cabled make less noise inside the pole when moving around? Is the coiled easier to use? Thanks guys, Pip.
  13. Thank you to everyone who has replied to my thread, you have definitely helped me immensely! I noticed nobody has given PSC a nod. Are they no good? On a separate note (and possibly another thread) I am looking at getting a SD 552 as my mixer. I understand that they are an amazing mixer with quality circuitry but have heard some negative feedback about them; mainly that it is a 5 input mixer crammed into the 442's 4 input housing, thus making everything a little tight, most notably the gain knob on channel 1. Has anybody experienced these mixers, and if so, is it the right choice for someone just starting out in the business? Thanks for all your help guys, you have been great
  14. Thanks Robert, K-tek is the only pole that I have used before so I am leaning towards them. Looking at B&W New York I see there are a few versions of the internally cabled k-202. I have received advice that the right angle XLR connection are the way to go on internal cables as they tend get less dirty. I am now wondering if it is worth paying the extra $100 or so and going with the stereo 5pin version? I currently only have 1 MKH-416. If i get the 5pin is it easy to convert to three? Thanks heaps for all your help, Pip
  15. Thanks a lot Jeff Is there any particular model of the K-tek you would recommend? Also I am not sure what size is the best to get? I'm guessing a longer one is always a good choice? Cheers, Pip.
