  1. Nice Simon, it was really hard getting a frame reference for my boom because the screen was so small. This movie made with new technology but it felt like an old school film set because we were rolling double system and everyone had to trust that it was in focus.
  2. Awesome, this is how my DSLR eng kit looks like, great minds think alike. Keenan
  3. Oh, sorry steve. I forgot to post that they found someone. Keenan
  4. Hey Larry, I had good luck testing my home made waterproof packs with SMVs. But an obstacle I didn't for see was when the actors come running onto the beach with their wetsuits still full of water which kept the RF from transmitting. After a minute the wetsuit would drain enough so I get signal back but it was always too late for the scene to work. I'm guessing the actors wetsuit full of water is just like being a foot under water. Any suggestions?, would it help if I built a different antenna for the SMV to come out the top of the wetsuit with the zipper string?
  5. very cool, I was about to buy APL620s but this may suit my setup for a while, sadly it won't cover my illegal blk 28 lectro.
  6. Yes Nicole, my 744T was the only recorder I had on this gig
  7. I'm not sure of the detail yet, but I will post them tomorrow afternoon or you can call my friend Gabe 831.332.7370, she will have the details. Keenan
  8. I'm still waiting for mine after 8 month, I would like a real update!....
  9. Yes, that was a interesting project, very small mellow crew, producers wanted to keep it on the VERY low down. And the best thing was that the main actress who plays Olive had very few speaking lines. Keenan
  10. Thanks Justin, I was pretty sure that was the case.
  11. Hey guys, I was talking to this production coordinator I'm doing 2nd unit with and he mentioned that the production wanted me to switch to zaxcom wireless. There reasoning is so they can run off and still have good tracks. I've used the whole zax system before (fusion, IFB, & wireless) and it worked for the most part. I wanted to know if I used my 744 instead of a zaxcom recorder would the zaxcom IFB still send the commands to record and stop recording to the zaxcom transceivers? Has anyone tried this? Keenan
  12. my office for the day on the movie LICKS
  13. Pete ready to drop the boom in during a cold night on the movie LICKS
  14. Pete! you know how much I love beer and you didn't mention this last time we hung out. A Scottish ale sounds awesome dude
  15. Nice, thanks for all the pointer, I think I will entail some kind of vent for my batteries. Keenan
  16. I am building a small cart and need to have a DC power supply that lives on the cart. I see a bunch of people have batteries inside pelican or ammo cases and I would like to go this route. Weight is not a big issue a this point because I wanna keep cost down. Where do I buy the battery? and how do I wire it to the 4 pin XLR to power my BDS distro? Keenan
  17. I just talked with the 1st AC and they don't have that cable. Oh well, I may just treat it like an old film camera and use a clapper. Thanks Phil Keenan
  18. So Kelsey or anyone, did the camera crew have the TC cable with the 4 pin lemo? I haven't seen any 4 pin lemo cables for sale yet. Keenan
  19. I concur with Simon, the Mix-Pre D sounds great! The AES out is very handy too. I do need to work on switching to ch 3&4 one handed cause it worked me.
  20. I did a little test yesterday with my BMX bike. I created a mono mix of the two mics I used. First, I strapped my zeppelin (CS-3e) to a small backpack and had it pointed at the back tire, along with a Sony ECM wired Lav tapped onto the frame next to rear hub. These both were routed through my SD mixpre-D inside one of the pockets than sent out to two Lectro SM TXs. I had my bag not too far away to record my experiment. Of course the rig wasn't pretty but it worked. McQueen, those are some great ideas, if I ever have the chance to record some Down Hill riding, your way seems like a good idea. Whenever I do down hill riding all I hear is the chain slapping, tires skidding, and the wind flying by me.
  21. Pete, can I say I'm jealous. Make sure to have lots of wind protections
  22. It maybe distorting due to the number of tracks your headphones are being feed. I had this happen to me with a different large multi track recorder while using my SD442 as my headphone pre amp. On my first day of the gig I had all 10 ISO tracks selected for my headphones, during the intense part of the scene I kept hearing distortion but my meters were showing me otherwise (peak at -10dB). between takes I would listen back to the individual ISOs and didn't hear the distortion, yay. So at lunch I selected L &R only for my headphones and didn't have any more problems with headphone distortion even when I would crank my SD 442 HP volume to the max. This was a narrative gig where I comfy sitting at my cart, so this maybe irrelevant to you if your not creating a mix and just recording all ISOs.
  23. I'll make sure to watch my back if I'm on the A crew, great video Richard
