  1. Shooting that kind of schedule may kill you before the actor does lol
  2. Rode NTG 1 Small light weight cheap
  3. I feel he is an asset to the group as well. He always had great information to post and a good solution to every problem I wish him well I just hope he wasn't offended by a member of this group.
  4. Nothing is worse IMHO than when you know how to fix an audio problem and you are prevented from doing so by either a producer, director or other person from production. I experience this on a regular basis on the reality shows, and lower budget films I have worked on. As an example earlier this year I did a low budget pilot in South FL one of the cast member was wearing a polyester suit with a light colored shirt. So I put a countryman B6 in the button hole with a white cap on it. The directors says "Where is the microphone" So I point to it and he says We can see that and has the camera man zoom in on the Button!!! and says this is not going to work. I plead my case and said you won't see that in the close up. I lost and sound suffered. Later on this same pilot I had someone wear a suit so I stuck the cos-11 in the tie knot and the cast member kept scratching his neck which sounded aweful. Needless to say never worked for that company again after a week of this and what a shock the show never got picked up!!!!
  5. I always try and put the bag down and sit down when possible. I usually end up hiding in a bathroom or grab a chair and sit in a closet or something. But for those days when we are moving constantly outside I can't those are the days that hurt. Boom Operating on a 3 camera reality show is impossible on my current gig I hardly ever use the pole.
  6. I know you have socks older than me lol. Rob that sounds like a monster of a package. If I need more than 4 channels, I do the (2) 302 mixers together the 604 package as I like to call it with 6 201 and 211 any bigger than that and I have to consider if I will take the job or not.
  7. As someone who does mostly reality tv work I can attest that it wears on you. The last few years I have only done sort bits of reality work 3-4 weeks at a time not a whole season. This year I have done over 100 days of reality work with my 28lbs sound bag on me and it has taken a toll a bit thankfully I am young (25) but I can attest that reality tv is a young mans game
  8. According to his Blog he is working on a Reality gig First In a show about firefighters in Compton. I am sure he will rejoin us soon
  9. Chas, I own 4 Countryman B6, 4 Cos-11 and 7 EMW in various colors. I think the EMW is the best all around microphone followed by the cos-11 and then the B6 I use them when I have to but not as my 1st choice
  10. My newest issue recently is producers are clipping there comtek next to the Iphone or in a pocket with it despite me explaining this is why they are getting chatter it doesn't work they still complain. Is the Lectro IFB more Iphone or GSM immune?
  11. Sanken Cub-01 with a ta5 breakaway attached to your lectro tx.
  12. You can try the Neutrik EMC connectors that are suppose to help RF issues: http://www.neutrik.com/us/en/audio/210_1822126843/NC3FXX-EMC_detail.aspx This may help if not switch to a 416 if your having an issue.
  13. I am surprised how good the b6 sound but good job overall. I liked the sound
  14. Thanks guys will install protools as well. Thanks guys
  15. I just downloaded a trial copy of boom recorder I am doing some simple recordings this weekend and thought I would try it out. I am trying to use it with a mbox mini but it isn't finding it. Any suggestions?
  16. $700.00 is way to much for a lav mic I am not sure what they are thinking
  17. We need cable that is gopher, dog and human proof. Perhaps Remote Audio can make some lol thanks for sharing it brightened my day
  18. I have been on both sides of this situation. On some of the reality shows I have worked on. If a EPK crew is following the show I work on I try and convince them just to take my 2nd zaxcom rx on there camera and allow me to feed them my audio this works well. If they insist on there own audio person I will try to give them some rx so they can just take the feed directly from the talent. I always try to be professional and helpful. The last time the we had the Hollywood insider following my current show their audio guy was a bit green and during our lunch hour I helped him set up his bag a bit better I am all about helping someone out
  19. Sergio, I couldn't agree with you more and no amount of school or training can really prepare you for your 1st real world gig.
  20. Pete Damski is a great sound mixer and I will be visiting your location sound class at some point this term to talk to your class. He is doing great things for your program I am not saying your not talented I just found the approach of this soon to be graduate to be poor that is it rant over
  21. I replied back nicely with "Thank You for your interest but no work is available" I also told them that this market is small and they would be best graduating and moving to a larger market.
  22. I wish you won't believe the calls and emails I get from local film school kids who think because they are going to a $30,000 per year ($120,000) degree school that they should get a high paying job and are entitled to something.
  23. Great response Eric I would say the same thing lol
  24. Names have been changed to protect the innocent: Dear Mr Ince, My name is XXXXXX and I am an up and coming sound person about to graduate from SCAD (The local film school in my town) where I have used the most to date sound gear and the films I have worked on have gotten many students A or B grades on them. I understand that you are the main location sound person in the area. I would love to work for you as a boom op or 2nd mixer. I don't have much professional experience but the student films I have worked on have trained me well. I am willing to work cheaply for you I was thinking like $30.00 an hour which I understand to be on the lower end of the sound pay rate. But I have a large student loan so I need to start somewhere and start making money soon. I would ask you pay me in cash since I am willing to work under rate for you. Also if there are any clients you don't want to work with anymore I would love to take them off your hands or if you lend me some equipment I can cover for you if your double booked. I am sure we can make a great team and we can both learn from each other since I am about to graduate and know alot about new industry technology and equipment I look forward to working with you soon! Haven't decided how strongly I should reply NO WAY
  25. Reminds me of a short film gig I did many years ago (before i owned any gear). Where I requested a PSC or Wendt Field mixer and got a PSC Retro mixer instead that took 12 D batteries
