  1. I have two MK-012's and have served me well. But once I got my first Schoeps (thanks to John Blankenship), it's tough even using the Oktava's as plants now. You get spoiled once you get the real deal.
  2. Hit me up if you have any Bay Area needs. Thanks Bernie.
  3. Writing this for a producer whom I've worked for a handful to times. He needs someone for Saturday September 10th. It's for a livestream broadcast, put on by AT&T, where fans get to write in and ask the band being interviewed questions. If you're interested, email me and I'll get you more details and his contact information. pdeutscher@gmail.com
  4. Awesome quote John! Might have to steal this one from you, with proper citation of course
  5. My beverages for the evening. Great triple hopped IPA from Eugene, OR and some Japanese whiskey my brother gave to me for my birthday. Good, but still doesn't come close to my beloved Laphroaig 15 year.
  6. I have a Kata OVH harness for sell. Not as big as a Versa-Flex or Petrol harnesses. If you're interested, PM me or email me and make me an offer.
  7. Pieces of gear that I use most often that, even included in my kit, I am making money off of instead of sitting in my bag or at home. For example, my duplex cable. Used it a couple of times when I get a boom op. Usually stays at home b/c like you, I do a lot of one man band gigs too. But If I were to get another wireless set, I'd have to charge accordingly.
  8. Only need a boom and one wire. This next interview is boom and two wires (my "standard" ENG kit.)
  9. And gear that you can make money off of more to pay back quicker.
  10. They told me yesterday that it was going to be a half day worth of shooting. Don't even think he had insurance (scary huh). And I think the DP got paid more than me (good friend of mine) for his "half day" but all he came with was a 7D and some lights. Time to have a talk
  11. Had one of these "half day rates" today, only because the 2nd interviewee had to reschedule. Production rescheduled that person for next week but they're also bringing in the person from today to interview with him together. Do I charge extra for the increase in gear? Worked with director a couple of times and am comfortable talking to him. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
  12. Wow! All of a sudden there's multiple pages I haven't read yet. Thanks Jeff
  13. Looks great! Can it be broken down for easy transport?
  14. You have to hand it to him...
  15. Had a similar problem sending a message to a fellow member. Everytime I sent him a message, it said the person wasn't accepting new messages but when I emailed this individual, he said he had been recieving messages from other members.
  16. I second Michael and Eric's posts. Had mine for little under a year and works great with my 302 in front. Lasted about half a day of shooting on AA's and I usually switched them out, regardless of how empty they were, at lunch break to be safe. Now I run with NP-1's but still a great machine.
  17. Too bad most kids nowadays are used to the loudness wars mastering engineers have to compete with. Even before the song is converted to MP3, the song is usually deprived of any dynamic range. And they're just going to listen to their favorite flavor of the minute through the wonderful white ear buds we're all accustomed to seeing now. Me, I really enjoy when a band will release their new record on DVD-Audio. Such a pleasure to hear a song without the confines of the normal stereo spectrum. I was going to remix my band's last record in 5.1, before we broke up.
  18. That monkey looks like it's about to attack your thumb!
  19. I used a newer style 12' VDB yesterday with a CS3-e in a full Zepplien and had some trouble with the internal cable. Couldn't calm it down when I was swinging from actor to actor. Only had the pool extended to maybe 8'. I've used 17' K-Tek's before with full Zeppliens and didn't have a problem with the internal cable. Have you noticed any of this with your VDB?
  20. I modified my post for ya. If you do get a chance to scout on your own, I'd recommed it. Give them the checklist and fill one out yourself and compare you're concerns. Would be interesting to see what they hear/find.
  21. Glad to see you lurking around this forum finally Seth! I've used this doc before which you can find on Gotham Sound's forum: http://gothamsound.com/main.shtml?page=docs If you can, scout with them because chances are, they're not going to take into consideration your concerns unless you're there to voice them. This checklist will help but even if you can't go when all the heads scout together, try to go to the locations they pick on your own and fill this out. That way, you've at least voiced your concerns. Good luck and hit me up sometime soon.
  22. The mixer I was booming for wrapped his VDB's with the tape they put on tennis rackets. Worked pretty but would require changing out every 1-2 months.
  23. Used a VDB the other day on a commerical shoot and was quite impressed with it. Not sure if it one of the older or newere styles. What are some of the differences to look for? I think the mixer I worked with bought them new in 2004.
  24. Experience is paramount here (still have much to learn myself) but I found these video excerpts pretty informative: http://www.695.com/html/edu-vid-good-sound.html Presented by a guy who our fellow moderator and administrator knows all too well...and a pretty damn good boom operator too.
