  1. Thank you to everyone who have helped contribute to this site. I feel lucky and blessed that I've learned so much and meet some great people. Looking forward to 2011! Happy New Year everyone.
  2. Would any LA-based mixers going to the seminar be open to pick up an SF-based mixer from LAX before the event? Email me if anyone's interested (I'm good for a beer!)
  3. Hey Jeff, Who is this wwwzlzq? Some of the posts he/she put up on different threads are the same. Just voicing concern...
  4. ...On an unrelated note, great to see you back on the forum Chad! I know you occupy DVXuser a lot but it's great to see you chiming in here
  5. "HEINEKEN!!! F@#$ THAT S$#%...PABST BLUE RIBBON!" Couldn't help myself. Did a TV commercial for Pabst Blue Ribbon the other day. One-man-band gig shot on a 7D. No free PBR afterward though
  6. Did you avoid getting it? It's not fun at all and the antibiotics really through you're body out of sync. Can't wait to be done with them next week (still on them after 3 1/2 weeks!)
  7. I had a blister from drumming that opened just slightly but was enough for the bacteria to crawl into. Scary thought.
  8. So I was recently admitted into the hospital for a week (in the beginning of December) because I had an abscess on my hand that turned out to be a staph infection (the bacteria was the MRSA strain.) Doc said I could have picked it up from anywhere because staph bacteria are EVERYWHERE. This is a picture of my hand after they opened it up in the ER and drained out the blood and puss that had filled my hand (the white tail is sterile packing.) Every day, 4 times a day, they had to remove the packing, clean it out and repack it. Most pain I've ever felt in my life. Very scary at the time, but am back on my feet now. So remember, WASH YOUR HANDS often (or sanitize.)
  9. Phil, ever been to Cha Cha Cha's in SF? GREAT food and their sangria ain't shabby either
  10. Only been on the board for a few months but appreciate all the communication and help you all have provided. I've met some great people and look forward to continue creating new relationships. Jeff, you've done a great deed in providing a place where young mixers like myself have a place to learn from the best, and when the time comes contribute. $10 is the least I can do. Keep up the great site!
  11. Yes it is. Compared to the Rycote windshield, I've heard the Rode is a bit heavy and bigger. For the cost though of the Rode, you can't beat it for the time being.
  12. Did this shoot a few months ago. Another spin off of the King Arthur story. Although shooting was a pain (location was in flight path of Oakland International Airport and by a major road), I did meet some great people. Used a B6 on the actor in the first picture since the wardrobe was so noisy. The 2nd picture is me and my boom op "Church."
  13. This is Pantera. Was always a dog person till my wife convinced me to get him. Best decision ever! Makes it difficult to search jwsound sometimes hehe
  14. Do you know what frequency the roll off capsule is set at?
  15. Although expensive, has anyone used the Osix suspension mount with an Oktava? I have the KSSM right now and it's just not working. Looking at trying the InVision 7 too...
  16. Looks like everyone is making the jump...
  17. That happened to me recently. Worked a gig with a DP who was headroom-happy and made it difficult to get my boom in position. Director didn't want to rent lavs so I was forced to boom from a distance I wasn't happy with. Not to mention the location was right by an airport. I lost my cool at one point and regret doing that. I did the best I could with what I had to work with and the director was happy, to a degree, with the outcome. Lesson learned that day...
  18. I have the same quandry and someone recommended I hook a small recorder to my harness and dictate my notes. I found myself not writing many notes as to keep up with the fast paced production.
  19. I think it's scary that even at the upper levels of motion pictures and film productions that producers think this way as well. I work mainly in indie films (just starting off) and have to deal with guys like this all the time. I guess once a business man, always a business man. Anyone else have ridiculous stories like this?
  20. I was trained to use lav's (especially wireless) as a last option well after trying to boom from above, from beneath, then with plant mics/lavs, and lastly wired lavs. I understand with some instances (reality TV with overlapping dialogue) that lav's are a necessity. But with motion picture, isn't it common place to boom as much as possible?
  21. Brilliant idea! Didn't even think to ask before the shot begins. The post-lunch room tone works, but if you change mic positions or are in a different part of the room or change the gain structure, the 15 seconds before the take starts would work perfectly.
  22. As a general rule of thumb, do you record a wild track at the end of the scene so the room tone and gain structure matches the dialogue during the shots of that scene?
