  1. Yes! I do not have to pay for street parking when I am in town. Congrats to Glen and the team on the new location. Whit
  2. Wow great post! Had the privilege of seeing Joe Cocker live in NY at the Beacon Theater in 1987. What a incredible concert and performance... One I have always remembered as one of the great entertainers in rock and roll! Whit
  3. Constantin I agree with you that this is not long enough. There have been several campaigns here to change our working hours and rest periods. JW's father has been a big leader in this with 12 On 12 Off and his documentary "Who Needs Sleep"as well as the campaign "Brent's Rule". Our union still has done very little to change this. Our union has not listened to its membership. I encourage everyone to watch Haskell Wexler's "Who Needs Sleep". It explains a lot of what we are dealing with in the US with long hours in the film industry. Your country and others in Europe have always had more civilized hours than we do in the US in our industry. When I have worked overseas it was always a 10 hour day with a very large turn around 12 hrs. Whit
  4. The IA turn around is 9 hrs in most cases. Camera operators have 10 hours. Under the ASA IA contract there is now a clause if you work more than 14 hours 2 days in a row there will be a 10 hour rest period until the work day is less than 14 hours or the employee receives a day off. These are the conditions that I work under and rest can still be a issue. 8 hours of turn around on a regular basis is challenging, dangerous, and unhealthy. I know you are not on a union production, but generally the IA has set the standards for the industry. Many non union productions still follow some of the practices. Look out for yourself and be safe! Whit
  5. RVD after thinking about it I have only had one request from a picture editor to add all of the off camera into the mix. That was 2 years ago and they had their reasons for this. There was a time and deadline issue with the the project and the editor did not want to have to dig through all of the tracks for their cut. It was a comedy where there was a lot of variations on performances on and off camera. I will have to admit I was not that happy about it but we gave the picture department what they wanted and it sharpened my mixing skills by doing this everyday. All of the elements were there on all of the tracks and sound post was very happy with our work regardless of having all the dialogue on camera and off in the mix track. No I'm not up early... just into nights this week! Whit
  6. Just to make it clear I am not saying to add the off camera dialogue in your mix unless it is needed for whatever the circumstances maybe. Having the off camera 2nd boom track can be very helpful for the reasons I have already stated. It gives post options if they are needed. We always try to make sure our off camera tracks match the on camera tracks so it will be useful to post. The quote "defenders of dialogue" I have to give to Kevin Smith. When Doug and I worked with him on Clerks 2, that was the nickname that he gave our department. I always liked it. Whit
  7. Dittos Scott and Josh. We try to record the off camera also on a boom when possible. I have always thought it was a second chance at the performance and the lines. In comedies it is very important because of all the ad-lib that may not have been captured on camera. I have always thought it gave post a chance if they needed a word or line that there may have been issues with when it was on camera. It is always about protecting the performance and it helps make you a "defender of dialogue". Whit
  8. IEMRadiator™ Uses Circular Polarity & Horn Radiators for ‘Rock-Solid’ IEM reception Guaranteed to improve reception for pro-audio In-Ear-Monitoring systems (IEM), Kaltman Creations LLC is introducing the IEMRadiator™ antenna, yet another innovative product in the company’s Invisible Waves™line. The IEMRadiator™ is not like a traditional paddle or helical antenna commonly used with In-Ear-Monitoring systems. The antenna incorporates a unique combination of advanced circular polarization technology with a horn style radiator for directional, high-gain enhanced radiating transmission that is never out of phase. This technology provides as reliable and as efficient of an RF signal link as possible. The antenna is guaranteed to reduce interference, reduce drop outs, help eliminate ‘swishing’ noise artifacts, improve RF signal to noise, and enhance reception of signals propagated through and around objects. Traditional paddle and rod antennas used for wireless In-Ear-Monitor (IEM) are either horizontally or vertically polarized (usually vertically). When an In-Ear-Monitor receiver antenna changes its orientation in reference to the transmitting antenna, as wireless IEM belt pack receivers always do, the phase relationship changes. This results in decreased signal levels. The IEMRadiator™ design is unique in many ways, the most obvious being its rugged flat panel design and ‘thumb-screw’ removable horn radiators. But, unlike paddle and helical antennas, the novel design features forward enhancing horn radiators that increase gain and directivity, creating a more robust and reliable radiated signal. It has a frequency range of 470MHz – 890MHz, with gain of 10.5 dBic. The IEMRadiator™ sells for $390 per antenna and is now available for purchase. Visit the company web page (IEMRadiator) for more details on this unique new antenna. Kaltman Creations LLC678-714-2000 www.KaltmanCreationsLLC.com
  9. I know both Tommy and Joe they were an incredible team. Joe boomed for me in New Mexico on a series before he retired 2 years later. He is a incredible person and one of the masters of the boom. One of his favorite lines that I love was "There is a boom shadow in every shot, you just have to know where to hide it". I always enjoyed hearing Joe's stories from the John Carpenter pictures that they did because I grew up on those films. Escape from NY, The Thing, as well as the Halloween Trilogy and many other pictures that they worked on. I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to have worked with Joe. Whit
  10. Sunday we lost one of our fellow sound brothers and mixers in South Carolina. Steve Smith left behind a teenage son Cody, and his wife Monica. Steve was well know in the south east for his work in television, some post, music and MOWs and more recent the series "Army Wives". He was and is well beloved with everyone he worked with. He will be missed. Steve was only in his 50's. Take a moment and take your headphones off and remember Steve, and that he left us very early. Whit
  11. He is trying to make another movie. http://deadline.com/2014/10/midnight-rider-director-new-movie-randall-miller-sarah-jones-death-844646/
  12. Correction! After a power on/off my MovieSlate App will not open either. Have sent a email to them.
  13. I have been using it with iOS8.... I did not read the website... No problems and now with 7.6 no issues either. Whit
  14. We are Sarah Jones! View this email in your browser Dear Member, The information below was forwarded to our office for distribution & we wanted to take a moment to share it with you: Ok guys, if you haven't heard we're doing a big ol' walkathon this weekend for Sarah here in Atlanta. Here's all the important info: - We are celebrating Sarah and raising money for the on-set safety initiatives and educational scholarships of the Sarah Jones Film Foundation. Please also visit Safety For Sarah for other ways to help. - We will be accepting donations on site, and a donation of $20 or more will get you a "Tough Like A Giraffe" T-Shirt. The shirts are inspired by the one Sarah wore every Friday to set. Her exuberance was infectious, and soon the saying "Tough Like a Giraffe" was common. The origin of it came from a childhood friend who reminded her that giraffes live on very little sleep, much like people in production. -Parking can be found on the street, on Larchwood ST SW; please be courteous of area residents. We encourage carpooling. It's a couple minutes' walk to the starting point, so be sure to give yourself enough time. For public transportation, MARTA Holmes Station is about 3/4 mile away from the trail. Again, be aware of walking time to the event site. -We will be live-tweeting and Facebooking this event, and we encourage you (and your friends and followers everywhere) to do the same using#safetyforsarah and @slatesforsarah. If you don't feel comfortable having your picture used via social media, please be sure to make this known to us beforehand. -A Spotify playlist will be coming soon for the listening pleasure of walkers and supporters everywhere. -The event will start at 3 PM EST (12 PM PST). Sarah's parents, Elizabeth and Richard, along with her brother Eric, will welcome us with opening remarks before leading us on the walk. -Light refreshments will be on site, and there'll be a separate celebration after the event. Details to come. -If you can't make it but would still like to donate, please visit the donation page: -We're also still looking for a couple more volunteers to help out during the afternoon. If you're available and hanging out with cool people is something you're in to, please sign up here: Thanks for your support. Hope to see you there! My test were very basic I carried 3 transmitters around with me all day unit the batteries died. SMQV 250mw 6:10 minutes SMQV 100mw 9:30 minutes SMQV 50mw 10:20 minutes A note that the power did turn RED for the last several hours or more of each transmitter. John does not have a price at this time but it will be coming soon. He did send me the specs which I am attaching to this post. Whit QU1500_US_UL.pdf As I here from others who had samples to test, maybe they will post here also or I will add it.

  22. It is that time after the RAMPS/JW party at NAB that we should start the JW donation campaign every year to remind everyone to contribute to the site. This site brings so much to everyone in our craft. It should be this time every year to remind all of the members to make their donations to the site. Jeff I have no problem asking the members to donate. I know you are very modest and would never ask this but I have no problem posting and starting a annual campaign to do this. Thank you again for this site that provides so much for our craft! Whit
  23. Great idea Jeff for a virtual one that is attached to our picture/profile... I like it! Whit
