  1. Crew that is very sad to hear. I never worked with him either but I have had many friends that did. Hal brought so much to the industry. He performed almost every type of stunt that was ever filmed. He was the highest paid stuntman of all time. He founded Stunts Unlimited, created the Shot Maker insert car as well as many other devices and rigs to do stunts. Hal raced in the outlaw race across the country called the "Cannonball Run" which he went on to make a movie about. He tried to break the land speed record several times. Hal brought sponsors and advertising to NASCAR that helped the sport become what it is today. He owned the Skoal Bandit Team. A very sad day for Hollywood he made so many actors and stars larger than life with all of his stunts. Whit
  2. I have put a deposit down on one. Should have it in a few weeks. I will make a post when I get it. Whit
  3. Hey Malcom, It is the DemerBox. http://demerbox.com Whit
  4. One option to deal with this is just print out the rental rate card from Trew, LSC, and any other vendor. Highlight the gear and rate and turn it in. This is what I have done in the past when I ran across this issue. Whit
  5. When I first saw the thread I thought there was some type of credit program at Location Sound.
  6. Hey Tom, Production Sound Mixer Boom Operator Sound Utility Technician
  7. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Mike the Anchor PB35 was slightly larger than I wanted. Tom the dermerbox was great! I'm trying to order the Big Bang. They are very backed ordered but they are trying to get me one. We are just trying to provide director communication in some very loud car rigs that we have to be able to hide the speaker. Again thanks guys! Whit
  8. Thought I would check with the group to see if anyone uses a battery powered speaker that is between a Speak Easy and a Anchor in size. Looked around the web nothing really caught my attention. Thanks, Whit
  9. Congrats to all of the nominees and the winners! Jan well deserved young lady! I wish you the best and hope you get to enjoy this moment even though you are shooting this weekend! Cheers! Whit
  10. Hey Kelsey, Generally I can not sell expendables to a production. Most major studios and networks will not buy expendables from a crew member or his LLC. They feel that you are taking left over expendables from your last production and selling it to them. They feel that it is a conflict of interest. I generally have production buy what I need. If they are willing to purchase from you then that is great! My list is very heavy since they are paying for it, but we do use all of these expendables. This may not be everything but very close. There are certain things such as COS-11 windscreens and Remote Audio earbuds that are lost and broken on a regular basis that I now consider expendables. Maybe I should add bullhorns also. I did one film that the director broke a bullhorn once a week! When certain equipment is out of our control and production or crew does not take care of it, it almost becomes an expendable. I do now use rechargeables on some equipment so my battery count is not as high, but there is no real way that I have found to bill this back. So now I am adding to my rechargeables by having production add a few on every picture to help supplement my batteries which are being used every day. It saves them save money and helps keep the cost down, be green and so on. 11. Not in LA this year for this one, just started a new picture this week want be able to make it. Kathy and I wish all of you the best and have a great time! Sorry we can not join everyone! Cheers, Whit
  12. I have never had any issues with fans, noise, time code from an Alexa! the favorite of my sound team if we are not shooting film. Whit
  13. I just carry my new Smith and Wesson 44 magnum (the most powerful hand gun made) to quote Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry. I hope the Russkies solve the problems and we do not have to. By the way it is very fun to shoot... like a cannon ! Hope I do not have to start looking for extra ammo.... Seriously I hope there comes to a peaceful resolution. But I will still be at the gun club with the 44... great gun to shoot. New therapy in addition to the Harley. Whit
  14. I always show up 45min to 30 min before call to get a head start and start giving solutions to issues to make the day go well. Whit
  15. I agree with everyone on the false start. It is easy to mark on the recorders as well as the sound report via MovieSlate and still keep you metadata correct. I never cared what they called the scene uguabuga take 4 long as camera sound matched. I do false take all the time... it works no problems from editorial. Cheers, Whit
  16. Mark, Thanks for bringing this up. I really enjoyed reading your article and ideas. This has been spoken about over the last decade by various mixers. It has been something that I have fought over my career (the difference in rates) being a member of 695 and 479 in Georgia. It is not much of a issue with myself these days because of the studios mentality of "what you made on the last production". Other mixers and friends still fight this under the ASA contract. Mark I fully support what you are doing and have no problem requesting that our BA in Georgia, 479 support and be a part of this national discussion. Please let me know what I can do to help support you on this. Again thanks Mark for bringing this up and leading the charge for change. Cheers, Whit
  17. Still waiting to hear about the price. Whit
  18. Here are the factory specs that I got from John at Batteries Plus. DYNAMIS-LITHIUM-FS-LINE-LFS14505_rev1.pdf
  19. I have had the issue also. An update from Sennheiser took care of the problem. Whit
  20. Energizer Lithium AA Lectrosonics SMQV 250 Milliwatts and the Dynamis Lithium AA. The Energizer won by only 3 minutes. 7 hours 35 minutes. Lectrosonics SMa at 100 milliwatts the Dynamis Lithium AA lasted 6 hours 34 minutes. The Energizer lasted 7hrs 5 minutes. The results of my simple testing. The Dynamis was very very close to the Energizer. We can wait for the official test from Larry. Also I should hear what cost should be later this week. Whit
  21. Vin, One thing I would be concerned about from buying overseas is if the manufacturer would stand behind their product. I know of cases where Dynamis, Everyready and Duracell, have replaced or repaired someone's equipment when a battery went bad and damaged the receiver, transmitter or Comtek etc. I'm not convinced a company from Shanghi would have this type of customer service in the US. Just a thought. Whit
  22. Thanks Larry, your testing will have much more info than my basic testing. I was going to ask Joel from Dynamis to send you some to test... Guess she has already done that. I will report my first and basic testing later this evening. I have 2 SMQV's working at 250 milliwatts. One with a Dynamis the other with a Energizer. We will see how long they burn. As of 3 hours the Venue reads the Dynamis at 1.50 Volts and the Energizer at 1.53 volts. Whit
