  1. Just got off phone with zaxcom tech support - extremely helpful in helping me troubleshoot. Camera link setup with 235. Using in record run scenario, all day yesterday was fine, fired up this morning and no tc and fib confidence return. Tested with erx and appears problem is at the qrx235 ifb board. No longer transmitting signal. Tech support confirmed the ifb board is screwed in, so no real chance of it coming loose. Have to send in. Only use rec run with this client. If i understand correctly, time of day tc is embedded when sent from camera link, so i am ok in normal link operations just no ifb return. In line for an rx200 as soon as those hit the streets so i can send it in then. In the meantime, anyone have any ideas on further troubleshooting? -Ken
  2. i was using multiple mics with these particular smqa's (2x) but specifically with 2x sonotrims i suddenly was getting pops when talent would move similar to when a mic is not plugged in all the way, even though fully plugged. took mics apart thinking i needed to resolder but all was good. discovered corrosion on what i believe to be pin 4 on both transmitters. i cleaned them thoroughly which seemed to fix it. noticed it happen once again yesterday so i am believing the inside of the connector might have reciprocating corrosion inside pin 4. has anyone else experienced this? i have sankens and b6's that dont seem to have this problem, could be because they are wired not utilizing pin 4? -Ken
  3. great to hear. this is what i LOVE about this transmitter. so many new opportunities to hide. can't wait to get 1. or 2. -Ken
  4. this is great to know as i rented my blue fins to a friend of mine who only had talent wireless in block 19 and told him to stay above 500mhz to be safe. glad to know they will work just fine if he needs them again in the future -Ken
  5. thought i might share this for others out there in the same boat. i was in a search of alternative fuels for my qrx 235 camera link. when not D-tapping, i am typically using sony style slim batts like the ones used on SRA/SRB's that give about 3 hour usage or less on a qrx with an iKan 12v regulated sled. with the sony's being discontinued i wanted to find an alternative since my chinese versions are failing left and right. i know others out there use the lithium packs for approx 6 hours use but i was a bit scared by the disclaimers of "do not charge unattended" or "do not charge anywhere near stuff you dont want to burn down". this sort of goes against keeping things super compact but i tried an experiment today with 6x black eneloop pro's in series and a voltage regulator. in keeping the voltage regulated at 12 volts i was able to get just shy of 4 hours of continuous run time on my qrx235. i felt this was a successful alternative to some of the other options out there. my goal is to make a 6-pack aa battery holder to velcro to a qrx and keep as slim as possible. seems like a decent alternative power source since i am using these black eneloops for talent tx etc and i feel the power these give is substantial enough to be quite dependable. this of course is just to hold over until the rx200 launches and then i hope to be able to get one and use the two together with erx's in multi camera setups with the same batteries. just thought i would share. will post pics soon when my setup is complete in case anyone is interested. -Ken
  6. whoa this is heavy but insanely interesting! the pbs newshour vid was great -Ken
  7. No vents and no heat issues so i think i am good there. But thanks those kwp's might be the ticket! i can keep the smaller pouches and possibly mount the kwp's on the zippered side flaps. Thanks for the input! -Ken -Ken
  8. Anyone out there use the side pouches for Zaxcom QRX or CL's? anyone possibly have a better solution? the stock orca pouches are way too small but i really like working this way. it works for now and also helps switching with my petrol for a larger rig. i plan to upgrade that rig to an orca bag soon. i called orca to try and buy the plastic pieces that interface with the bag side receivers but they did not have any available. i would like to make my own larger sized clip on pouches but cant figure out a good way to at present. sorry for bad image. anyone else have success? -Ken
  9. Imho that is still the way to go. I bought one from a drafting supply store that was a bit pricey but well worth it. Came with a quality ring light and an extra bulb. Avoid te cheap ones. Not very stable or dont hold position etc -Ken
  10. Hair or glasses are also other possibilities, and also discussed here once before - sometimes a source of noise is stubble at the collar and the possible solution being assistance from makeup dept with lotion iirc -Ken
  11. Dont know if this helps - my method for years has been chronological numbering on the bottom of all aa's with a sharpie. As i buy new ones and add to current stash the numbers continue. Helps me keep track for rotating batteries and also which ones are losing charge capacity over time. Occasionally re-write but the numbers stay visable for quite a long time. Dont know if this is bad for contacts but havent experienced any issues over the years of working this way. So i know when i pull batts 11/12 our of a transmitter it helps in knowing those are the dead ones and they go into the top load battery holders upside down which also indicates those need charged. -Ken
  12. all of my sony NP-F's are starting to fail seemingly one after the other. I had a string of good luck for a while but it is coming to an end. chinese versions are all that are available now and the quality seems to be hit or miss. thinking of switching to Tenergy li-ion 18650, 14v 2600mAh listed by jack and a few others. can anyone share more pics of how you are mounting these with your qrx's? how many do you own and how many chargers do you own? trying to figure out a workflow for charging in between work. i am bummed from not having reliable NP-F's. if there is any chance someone has a source for reliable sony replacements please share -Ken
  13. ^ that's it! i tried cables that came with an amp at first and that's when i figured out i was making no connection so i had to custom order low-loss cable with the proper connectors. there are basically 4 types of sma's - 1x male with pin, 1x male with hole, 1x female with pin and 1x female with hole. -Ken
  14. ^ all good questions! Check the sex of your connections and make sure males and females are all where they should be. Also some amps i have found dont work properly if not fed enough signal from the transmitter. -Ken

    Zaxcom issues

My money is on jan 1 2016 -Ken
  16. if you are referring to the panasonic black eneloop pro's, not true at least in mine, which were purchased fairly recently. they have a circular disc protruding outward, much like the previous rech batts i have used. no battery contact issues with zaxcom or lectro transmitters when i ran tests with impact, bumps etc. i havent seen the ones you speak of however i could see the problems you mention with batteries being flat on the bottom. i did experience problems with original sm's a while back where talent would bump into something sitting down and the door would lose contact with the batteries but i havent experienced that with sma or newer model transmitters. so far over the past couple weeks, the charges are holding strong even after sitting a few days. -Ken
  17. good tip! a good bookmark for future reference -Ken
  18. Exactly! For me 99% would be cam link. Hopefully in those rare cases where i'd want to use it as a tallent receiver i can (fingers crossed) serial link to a qifb receiver. Just remote commands on trx is all i would hope for. -Ken
  19. Problem solved. Bought a brand new grey band wired to screw on lemo from usual suspect and problem is gone. My wiring seemed to be similar to theirs. The mic worked fine when switched back to lectro so the original mic seems to be in working order. All i can figure is it might be an old mic version that possibly has been revised over time. There are some older threads in other parts of the web that point to similar issues with noise from back in 2010 ish. glad i can hear for myself that countryman and zaxcom do play nice together. using today with great success on female talent where previously her softer diolog was plagued with cassette tape hiss! -Ken
  20. Todd do you have the model info of yhe amp? -Ken
  21. i tried a similar chinese made amp, got it to work on home wifi but not with zaxcom setup - no difference w signal reception with or without antenna amp. I made sure i used proper sma connectors on both ends of cable and I tried with multiple output levels, no luck. Nice to hear you found one with success! Was gonna try a cp beam but maybe go for something like this instead -Ken
  22. Wow being left handed this had never occured to me -Ken
  23. Did i see a single serial port on the rx200? Can it be linked with a qifb receiver and remote command a transmitter at the end of the serial chain? -Ken
