    Aerials

A while ago for me so possibly they have been updated. I recall reinforcing the remaining with multi layers of heatshrink til i got all new flexible whips. Also the outter antenna sleeves would rip off if snagged on something leaving the bare metal exposed. I believe the heatshrink helped those stay in place -Ken

+1 the connector joint was a weak point for me as well. It starts off as a slight bend where they dont stick up perfectly straight and then one day SNAP. i went back to flexible whips -Ken
  3. i am sold on kester 44. this review i came across for it on amazon i felt compelled to share. makes me think chuck norris has a solder bench -Ken ---------- Have you ever wanted to solder micro PCB transistors and resistors like a demi god/ robot? Then this solder is for you. Do you want a lead solder with a competent flux that will bond your connections like a champ, and give off fumes with the sweet taste of Bismuth salts and antimony that pairs nicely with a glass of Montepulciano or a Sanghiovese? Then this flux core is for you. Do you want to live as long as possible and keep your sperm count up? Then maybe you'd prefer a Rohs solder, and after throwing it across the room you'll realize: laboratories and electronics are not for you. We all die sometime, we're surrounded by death. No need for the constant reminder from our electronic devices that die before their time, due to inferior Rohs compliant solders. Women like mysterious dangerous men, and what could be more dangerous than a man who breathes fire and lead fumes? Nothing. Take it from me: a scientist; put a roll of this bad boy in your laboratory and watch the panties drop. Now I know what you're thinking: "we have a disparity in the sciences, with too few women taking degrees in the hard sciences thanks to years of uninformed dogmatic gender role ascribing women to careers other than the hard sciences. Now we're paying the price. Do you realize how hard it is to get a lady in your laboratory?" Well, true. And no. I don't. because I use spools of lead solder. Fact: women are drawn to the sweet smell of Bismuth salts and the pheromones excreted by a man with acute lead toxicity coursing through his veins are unmistakably unique. It intoxicates their senses, they're drawn on a genetic level to procreate with you *immediately* because, with lead, there might not be much more time. Pretty sure Darwin mentions the mechanics of this exact biological drive in his work "The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals" but I wouldn't know. I'm a real scientist, not a biologist so I've not the time to read such quackery. What I do know about women I've learned from observation and captain Kirk. From observation I can assure you, heat up some of this solder, sit back and watch the women come in droves. Your lab will make Hugh's house look an all boy's academy. Hang another roll from your review mirror. Trust me. This solder will save us from the gender disparity in the sciences. It will save future generations. But, don't wait, copulate. After all, it is lead bearing solder, so there's not much time. I will continue to buy this solder.

+1 on the B for all the above! -Ken
  5. Sorry to go off topic for a second but do your b6's work ok to your satisfaction without any noise issues? I gave up on mine, switched my b6's back to lectro and planning to buy b6's for zax from a usual suspect -Ken
  6. That's what i'm talkin about! Beautiful. I cant possibly compete with your great work. Always amazed. I am a huge fan of the art of great looking cables as well as technical aspects. If i understand correctly based on earlier posts from you, you've only been making all these various connectors and cables a short time? Hats off to you. -Ken
  7. Survived my flight, on round trip home. Or-30 packed to gills with all major gear, traveler boom pole and all batts inside a duffle bag. Small bkpk w laptop, boom mic and wireless link under seat in front. Only issue i ran into was half drank water bottle in bag i forgot about. They swabbed, trashed water bottle and i was on my way. No issues with short boom pole though i was prepared to say "camera tripod" as recommended by others. -Ken
  8. The krk's i own require inline fuses on the speaker wires. Do these models say anything to that effect in the manual? Just a thought. -Ken
  9. When i use the solice w the 633 i only do 4 iso's and 2 mix from the solice mix out. If i know i need more tracks i use the 664 instead. -Ken
  10. Yikes! Bought mine fairly recently so maybe mine is updated and still too bright for dark sets? I've got the nd trick down now to where i double up with 2 strips of nd and leave the last couple red lights exposed on the meters and it acts as a double safety if i run too hot. -ken
  11. Fyi a 25pin turnaround can be found fairly easy to help with prefabbed snakes. it had never occured to me till i tried to plug in. Thankfully local computer parts place had one in stock or i would have been SOL on a gig i bought the snakes for. Metering colors iirc seem to be different across multiple mixers/recorders. A few small pieces of ND are highly recommended as the lowest setting brightness level is still blinding. -Ken
  12. Any problems with boom poles in carry-on bags? -Ken
  13. Good tips! I actually did a shoot on tsa pre that i forgot completely about. I dont fly that often. I will try to get tsa certified before the flight. -Ken
  14. good point - preparing to gate check accordingly. thanks for the input! -Ken
  15. I have as well as 664. Both in bag cart setups. I made custom snakes for them. Been working well. feels great to actually mix with real faders! -Ken
  16. flying in the u.s. with my gear soon and it's been a while. was planning to take or-30 mixer bag lightly stuffed as my carry-on and a medium laptop bag on wheels (planning to stuff underneith seat in front) with boom mic, wireless link, erx's, batteries, etc for quick setup if required when we land. will pack the checked bag with cables, chargers, bu gear, etc.google searched the topic and came across great advice including this discussion on batteries - great tips! http://http://jwsoundgroup.net/index.php?/topic/21016-worldwide-lithium-ion-battery-air-travel-regulations/ will definitely print out the latest rules on batts and carry with me. in some of the other discussions, it was mentioned a boom pole can be carried on under the regulations for tripods - still possible? was planning to check one and carry on the shortest one i have. any tips/tricks/suggestions on anything for air travel as of late? -Ken
  17. Mine usually last 5-6 hrs per full charge continuous. Easily a full day if you manage your on/off times -Ken
  18. Padded cables are a viable option when mic level etc is needed from a qrx -Ken
  19. dont know how much this matters but i believe the term is "playback" when it comes to 6 series machines in that you specify what card any time a file is played back from the machine vs. monitoring in real time in the sense of confidence. -Ken
  20. BTW thanks to everyone for input. It is good to know what is being done now for tc xscripts regardless of what is being asked of us for what ever reasons. -Ken
  21. I am convinced those asking for linear tc "think" they need it out of habit. Like those who also "think" they need record run tc. But i could be wrong. -Ken
  22. Hi all, I know there is a lot of discussion in previous posts about this subject but I haven't seen much discussion in my searches on this particular topic. I use my sound devices 6 series for timecode mp3 transcript files and it's a great feature how it puts all the details and the timecode stamp information in the metadata. To the best of my knowledge, there is no other recorder out there that does this as a standalone hardware based MP3 recorder, but someone please correct me if I have this wrong. For those of you using 788's or various other recorders that don't have this MP3 recording feature, how do you create your MP3s for transcript? Do you use a laptop and plug the metadata information in manually? Do you use a particular laptop-based software solution? Or is there some other method you might be willing to share? My inquiring mind wants to know! there are certainly people still recording linear timecode on one track, and transcript houses are certainly still accept them. But in this modern time it seems that producers much prefer having a file they can listen to on the plane without the soothing sounds of timecode jazz. -Ken
  23. maybe just me...but if you are far enough away to not notice the 1 second delay, you might have no reception, so cups and a string might work better over long distances for the budget minded? -Ken
