  1. Hey Philip, The price for the 788T is $5995.
  2. The new 8 track HD/CF recorder from Sound Devices is now available! Read more about it here
  3. one of the great cinematographers of our time and a true success story for his native country. i remember studying the man in my senior thesis class at college, along with walter murch, and found them to be some of the most creative and inspirational people in their respective crafts. RIP.
  4. you may want to check with f-source.com and see if they allow deep linking to their JavaScript files.
  5. sorry to hear he was defeated, but i did just walk across his star on Hollywood Blvd the other day and know his influence will always be felt regardless of the election.
  6. much better, good job. also for those who don't know, Countryman got their site redesigned too, looks pretty sharp.
  7. NAB 2007 Parts 1 - 3 are all online and trouble free.
  8. Sorry for the confusion guys. I looked at the code and there was a reference to the older video; it has been cleared out. Now would be the time to clear the cache, as I just uploaded the new page a moment ago.
  9. Scott - try reloading your page or clearing the cache, it did that to me the first time too but the new video is indeed up there. If you're still having issues you can access it directly.
  10. The 5.8 carries a very attractive price tag of $12,500 - and that includes the DVD-RAM drive and new compact flash slot. You can check out some details & photos here. Personally I like that darker anodizing on the aluminum. Very classy. The Deva 16 is pretty impressive too...
  11. Hey everyone - we just uploaded part one of our "NAB recap" video series, you can check out some interviews & demos with Lectro, Sanken, Fostex and more by clicking here. Part 2 & 3 will be arriving later Monday afternoon and there's some very interesting content in there from Zaxcom, Ricsonix, Rycote and all the usuals suspects. Until then, have a great weekend.
  12. yeah but it doesn't have all the cool flashing LEDs!
  13. No, but here's a little bit of fun in the mean time: Pick your booties!
  14. Certainly the former Unfortunately, we don't yet have a real web department, it's just me, myself and I. As of late I have been finalizing the latest issue of the Coffey Audio Files, so I have been unable to add products regularly. Trust me, once the NAB rush is over there will be a lot more time to get back to this and make it into the site it really should be. Thanks for the kind words too by the way.
  15. on a related aside, look for a write-up of this unit in the next issue of the Coffey Audio Files which will be available in a few weeks. Robert Kennedy was kind enough to lend me his insight and it should be valuable info.
  16. true, the large epics and hollywood musicals seem to consistently receive the nominations each year, but this is a good list i have to admit. on a personal note i felt Willie did an exceptional job on Dreamgirls. I saw it at the Vista last month and paid very close attention to the soundtrack which was extremely clean, upfront and full of emotion (thanks in part to the wonderful performances of the acting crew). heard many Neumann's, and all the studio work flowed flawlessy with production sound. i was simply blown away by the scene where Jennifer Hudson sang her heart out to Jamie Foxx - that was some of the best vocal recording i've heard. whoever wins will certainly be worthy of the award.
  17. and lots more yet to come, but for now enjoy a handful of photos from John Coffey's mixing career: http://coffeysound.com/pages.php?pageid=24
  18. Jeff, next time you're in the shop, come see me and we'll log into your forum back end and see if there's any possibility to increase the security. I'm pretty good with forums and might find a way to do it, worth a shot at least!
  19. very nice post mick im in the new school, 26 years old and a huge fan of technology and its implications in the film industry and everything else in our lives for that matter. the problem with the incredibly fast world of technological improvements is the long-term value to cost ratio. there's a new "so-or-so" released every year that raises the bar and demands another chunk of you change, should you wish to be along for the ride of course. but what really matters to this type of industry are the BIG improvements - the ones that tell us "Hey, I'm changing things!" don't be impressed by a "new and improved" version of an old technology - invention should always be at the forefront. i have much respect for Zaxcom, Sound Devices, Sonosax and all the other companies out there paving the way with form, function, quality and innovation first in mind. sometimes it seems like that update to your recorder's firmware is sooooo far off in the distance... but looking back, it happened far quicker than you thought possible. things are extremely fast right now, and may never slow down.
  20. FAT16 is certainly on its way out but i wouldn't see that as reason for ditching the Deva II just yet. what a great machine still, for what it's worth. i'd hold onto it just to hold on to a piece of sound history. if you're going the route of Tascam HD-P2 or Edirol R-4 Pro or SD 7 series, it's not that much of a financial hit to pick one up, and keep the Deva. i talk to mixers that use Deva II as backup all the time and i haven't seen it being a huge problem with post. granted i'm more on the production side of things so my insight is somewhat limited.
  21. this has got to be the funniest spam post i've ever seen on a forum. i am almost crying over here. please don't delete this jeff!! at least for a couple days.
  22. pictures of this little expedition will be posted on the coffeysound website soon after christmas. some very cool products will be shipping out in 2007... i am looking forward to it.
  23. Hello everyone! Just a quick note to let you know our new website has finally launched. The focus here is a streamlined approach to researching and ordering pro audio equipment online. I've implemented a couple cool features that I don't believe other companies offer - such as a custom boom kit configurator, an expendables configurator (just to speed up the whole process), an interactive photo gallery - which will be populated VERY soon with all of John Coffey's personal photos on set over the years - and a rental request form. Please note: we still have hundreds of items to add, some bugs to fix and several other tweaks which will happen over the next few weeks. But we're all very excited over here about this new aspect of our business and the convenience it will bring all you guys as well. If any of you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to let me know. We want this to be as end user-oriented as possible. just in case you don't know the site by heart (shame on you!): www.coffeysound.com
  24. takev - you also should check out the Coffey Audio Files, which is dedicated only to professional audio, for both production and post production. this magazine was several years in the works and we finally got it done. combined with the resources of CAS, i think these are you two best bets for getting useful tips from the industry. if you want to advertise, email me off the forum and i can give you details. we had many enthusiastic contributors last time around, including Sennheiser, HHB, Zaxcom, Sound Devices, Technicolor, Motorola, PSC, Ricsonix, Sony Post Production, Encore Hollywood, SetWear, Cooper... and that was just our first issue. we are going to keep up the momentum and build on this important stepping stone. i'd love to get you involved so get in touch!
